I saw in the post below re: what do you have the characters sign with that some had them sign a lunch box, another said the Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters - so I was wondering if anyone had any other cute ideas?

I know my son will not look back at just a blank book of signatures ever... so want to do something fun- i like the enclyopedia idea - but wanted to see if anyone had other clever ideas, too?
thanks!!

He'll be 5... my twins will be 2.5, so not really into the signing- just hugging :)

I've heard about doing T-shirts or pillowcases, but I can't figure out how this works, practically. Writing on fabric can be a pain, and hauling an embroidery hoop around doesn't seem reasonable. I'd love to hear about how this can work, though, because it would be really cute for the kids. :)

Just a random thought, similar to the pillowcase or t-shirt idea. When I was little and all my friends went to camp they would always bring this white teddy bear that was made for signatures. It came with a pen and everything to write on it. It was a fabric such as a t-shirt or similar material. I wonder if they make a Mickey Mouse type of stuffed animal like this, hmm...:upsidedow

We've done the regular autograph book, and just had the characters sign different colored paper cardstock/scrapbook paper and I put them in our scrapbook. So this last trip, since we already had a lot of the autographs, I bought photo mats for the characters to sign. We just had the fab 5 sign them (plus Daisy). We had one for each of our girls, and I bought an inexpensive frame at hobby lobby and put their picture in it. To fill in some of the space, I used some cute Disney stickers I got at Hobby Lobby. I think we will do this again on our next trip, but have the princesses sign.

When dd was younger we brought her "Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids" travel book with us and the characters signed by their picture or one of her favorite attractions.

I bought one of those nice WDW cookbooks one trip, and had all the characters at our character meals sign it.

I have the cookbook displayed on a plate stand in my kitchen.

Get hats from the disney store and various colored sharpies. You can get the minnie sharpies from AC Moore or a craft store and they have snap on tops that go on a key ring. The key ring can go on your backpack so you don't need to dig through a bag. Characters can use different colors based on the character color.

Kids wear the hats, so it's easier - nothing to carry around.

You'll get lots of compliments from CM and other guests toward the end of your trip when the hats are covered

What we do is print some 8X10's of past Disney trips photos with characters. We have a great Mickey photo with our family of 4. Then we take it with us on our next trip and have Micky Sign it. But you must capture a photo of him signing the picture. Then when we get back we print a 3x5 of Mickey signing the charater family photo and go to Michaels to have them both Matted and framed together. It is a nice piece of memorabilia that hangs on a wall in our Disney room at home. We also have a great Train pic from the magic kingdom when the conductor was blowing the steam whislte with the smoke and all. I got the same conductor who was driving the train to sign it on the next year and we got a pic of him signing it. He also made us Co-Conductors and gave us Co-conductor tickets and certificates which we took to Michaels and had the 2 pics 1 a 8X10 and the other a 3X5, with the Certificate and ticket all matted on a 16X20 frame. It looks so professional and cool. Looks like it would cost hundreds of dollars to buy at Disney Art shop.!!
Just my Autograph idea!!
Good Luck!!

We had 4x6, matte finish, pictured printed that had each character's design (you can find them on the boards). We plan to scan the autographs after and then make a photobook using those along with the photos I take

We did photo mattes and they came out fantastic. WalMart (at least used to) have white ones in the bridal aisles in a couple of different sizes. We got 8x10 and a 20 pack of sharpies and had the characters sign in "their" color (jasmine signed in teal, Cinderella in pink, Chip & Dale in brown, etc...). Then put the kids' favorite picture in the middle after our trip. We even found fantastic black frames in the Art of Animation store in DHS for $20 each with Mickey ear cutouts in the corners. Pass them every day in the hall - haven't seen the autograph books in years. TIP - Make sure you take a picture for the matte the right direction. If you're having characters sign the matte vertically, take your child with their favorite character vertically!!!

Here is a bag I made. I had the characters sign with a Sharpie

That's a really cute idea, I like that! Especially for little boys. I think I will do that for my ds. Thanks!

We're doing a combo, T-shirt for character meals, this one we bought at Joanns:

Its colorable!

And then a book made with DiSigns for the parks.

We just got back and did the pillow case thing. The hoop that I had bought really wasn't that big so it wasn't a big deal to carry around. We used fabric markers.

I will be making each of my kids an autograph quilt out of their autographs this year. I will take the precut fabric squares and iron on the freezer paper for stability and then use a clipboard for signing.

we've done t's, pillowcases, books, bags,notebooks

I want to do to the vinylmation too but if I don't get around to ordering it, then I think we'll do placemats next. We'll bring thick card stock and have the characters sign those and them have them laminated at home.

I got the Encyclopedia on Amazon for my son - will give to him for his birthday early on the day we tell him about the trip - he'll love looking through it on the airplane - and having them sign will be so much fun for him- thank you all for the great ideas!!

We did the lunch box. I thought it was clever (I had come up with the idea myself and read about it here after we got back!). This worked out well for us because it was a princess lunchbox, and we did the Storybook dinner at Akershus (or whatever it's called, in Norway), so all the princesses signed it one place, so I only had to carry the lunchbox around for one evening. DD was SO excited to come back home and show all her friends. She still carries the lunchbox, almost 2 years later.

Next time, I'm hoping to come up with something brilliant, but if not, I wouldn't feel bad about doing another lunch box.

The one thing I'm thinking of right now (more for myself than DD!) is the book "My Side of the Story". We're doing the 1900 Park Fare dinner with Cinderella and her whole family. Well, this book has Cinderella's story (where we can have Cinderella, Prince Charming, etc. sign) and if you flip it over, it has the same story, written from Lady Tremaine's point of view [example: The rumor that Cinderella’s stepfamily tore her lovely dress to shreds so she couldn’t go to the ball? According to her stepmother, they were only trying to save Cinderella a lifetime of embarrassment at her fashion faux pas and gently suggesting that she stay at home. (Lady Tremaine says the gown actually looked like it had been sewn together by rodents!)] . So I'd have her, Anastasia, and Drizella sign that side. They were by FAR my favorite characters from our last trip, although Alice was pretty awesome as well!

Last time, we brought an invitation from Cinderella for DD, asking her to dinner with her family (for 1900 PF). When we got to our resort (WL) I asked the CM who was checking us in to give it to DD. She did one better and had it delivered to our room with a bunch of balloons. I'm doing the same thing this time, but also having a 2nd delivery of the book, "from Lady Tremaine." I haven't figured out exactly how to pull it off yet, how I'm going to word notes, etc, but I'm so excited! DD will be floored!

The book is also available for other stories... We have the Little Mermaid one, but I know there's also Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmations...
