What order would you sell your contracts?

Good exercise and one that I have thought of often.

1. resale 185 Poly. This was recently purchased and I considered selling to buy RIV direct; however, it seemed arduous to go through the selling process. Will hold for now.

2. direct 150 VGF. At this time, not our favorite and that could change as my DD gets older and school schedules change.

3. direct 150 VGF.

4. resale 160 BLT.

5. resale 210 BLT.

5. resale 180 AKV. Very difficult to give up this and/or BLT now because the UY works for school schedule and my DD loves AKV right now.

6. direct 200 RIV. Towards the end of the list because we need a direct contract and would probably get crushed price-wise selling it.

7. direct 175 BWV. I would prefer to let this go first but I co-own it so can't sell it.
Out of curiosity, you own 300 direct points at VGF but it's not your favorite? Were they more purchased as direct SAP?

they were purchased during the 2023 VGF fire sale. I needed more points and wanted to get my husband on a direct contract. We would probably love VGF if we didn't have a 6 year old. We had our honeymoon there. I could totally do the Enchanted Rose every night and signature dining. Clearly a 6 yo derails that!

That fire sale sold people!
Sigh, why couldn't there have been a Poly firesale instead 😭 .

I think in time you guys will love it. The lobby and food options are 👍. Citricos, Narcoosee's, V&As is a pretty difficult lineup to beat then you add GF cafe and yeah..

Seems like somewhat of a consistent theme that RIV/VDH points would be last or near last for people. Make me wonder if direct owners of restricted resorts will be somewhat more hesitant to sell than we have historically seen with the O14 resorts. Was probably a little easier before restrictions came along to offload points you might have bought at, say, OKW and then along came VGF or BLT, and you said, well, I really want that and I can sell OKW for what I bought it for (or more) and then buy the shiny new resort. That probably isn't happening with restricted resorts nearly as often (and without taking some serious losses). Just another variable that might or might not affect how restrictions and room availability play out over the long-term.

This may also be due to the fact that they are newer contracts bought direct, not solely because they are restricted. If I bought OKW direct in the last couple years, even during the fire sale, and I went to sell it now, I'd lose a ton of money as well.

I would be curious to see the years people bought their contracts and how much this plays into their decision.

Agreed. That thought crossed my mind too, and I'm sure that matters too in people's decisions on what to sell.

Well, what a conundrum!

I have:
125 Poly; resale pre-O14 restrictions
100 CCV; direct with blue card status
75 VDH; direct

It's a conundrum because
  • Poly is my favorite at WDW,
  • CCV gives me my blue card, and
  • VDH is my lone west coast option (but with the highest dues).

My order would probably be
1 - PVB
2 - VDH
3 - CCV

Poly was my first contract, so it holds a special spot in my heart, too.

What a fun question.

Order I'd sell my 4 contracts.

1. 50 pt OKW contract - direct, 2057 expiration date
2. 160 pt BCV resale contract - it would hurt since it's my favorite resort and I only bought it last year, but it's less sentimental than the others
3. 230 pt OKW contract - direct, 2057 expiration date things would need to be DIRE for me to sell
....
4. 50 pt OKW contract - direct, 2057 expiration date I would need to be literally homeless and destitute to sell.

The OKW contracts have been in my family since July 1992, and I really want to own at least one through expiration. I was the one to convince my parents to extend when the option came up, and started paying the dues as soon as I graduated college (a promise I made as a teen), so all the OKW contracts are extremely sentimental for me.

Interesting Premise…
Current DVC Portfolio:
R=Resale
D=Direct

210-SSR-D
40-SSR-D
225-SSR-R
160-AKV-R
25-AKV-D
230-BWV-R
60-BLT-R

950 Total

Let me preface this by saying I don’t intend to sell any time soon. As a matter of fact, I’m plotting our next purchase to get us into the “comma club”🤣
But, just for the sake of a mental exercise, my order of divestiture would probably be:
1- 60 BLT (R)
our most recent purchase was only to have an MK-walkable resort, every 2-3 years, so this would be the least-missed.
2-225 SSR (R)
these were scooped up during COVID at a very low price, and could sell now for more than I paid for them.
3-40 SSR (D) & 25-AKV (D)
these would probably incur a loss, as they were added on Direct, well above our initial buy-in prices.
4-160 AKV (R)
also scooped up during COVID, and could sell now for more than I paid.

That would leave me with our original SSR-Direct (which is our Blue Card status), and would only be sold if we could no longer use, or transferred to kids…..
AND - we imagine these would be sold after we run the clock out on our BWV points, which we plan to use until 2042.
