We are staying thru a DVC rental in Oct what area should I request? Thanks Kat

The only bookable category is the Hospitality House area. It is near Hospitality House which has the main lobby, Olivia's table service restaurant, and gift shop. If you do not book that category, when you check in you can try to request another area, but it is basically a gamble as to what they have open. Do you care how close you are to Hospitality House? If so, the second closest area is Millers Road.

Most views are great at OKW. In eleven years of staying there, we usually don't request anything specific, and only once have we been a tiny bit disappointed. Not that we don't have favorite spots, but we don't feel there are any truly bad ones. If you have a 1 or 2 bedroom unit and will have someone staying on the pull out sofa in the living room, you might want to request something building #30 or higher, since the buildings under 30 do not have the seperate door into the bathroom. If you are staying in a studio, be aware that the studios are all on the ends of the buildings, so there is a possibiltiy that you could have a view obstructed by vegetation, or could have air conditioner units outside your window.

Will you have a car? Will you want to use the main pool or one of the smaller pools? I've always liked the Turtle Pond Road area, but always had a rental car, it's a good distance from the main area. I always request water view.

we'll have our own car and I would want to use the main pool area.

We have never stayed anywhere at OKW we didn't like. Along the river is nice. We have never had a car and have stayed near Turltle Pond which wasn't a problem getting to and from the pool. Hope on any bus and it stops at the HH. When going back to the room, walk to Peninsular Rd and hope on first bus that comes by.

tripadvisor has some pretty terrible reviews...will we be disappointed?:sad2:

I've stayed there many times and loved it. It's a more laid back resort. There's no food court like the values & moderates, there's not a large feature pool like the Yacht & Beach Club, there's only 1 restaurant. I wasn't looking for those things, the times I stayed there I was looking for a quiet, relaxed time in the large rooms (I usually stayed in a 1 bedroom). So when people write bad reviews, it might be because they chose a resort that did not meet what they were looking for. It's not everyone's "cup of tea". Before you book any resort, you need to look at what your expectations are and if that resort has what you are looking for.

besides, people are much more likely to post a negative than a positive.

Good's to Go is a snack bar in the main pool area. They serve fast food type breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, pre-made salads. The food is OK, not a wide selection, though.

so are the refillable mugs avail for purchase then?

we stayed there for first time in february 08. Loved it. love the rooms at ssr better. we had a studio and like one person mentioned they are on the end and you can see right into the living area of the one bedroom it is attatched to from your balcony. we were in hh section and it was nice just to walk. staying there again this august for one week and looking forward to it. just wish the studios had a pull out couch but it works for us, we are on vacation and staying in studios lets us come back more often. very relaxed feeling and like the music by the pool and my kids loooooooove the water slide. have a great trip and do what you think is best b efore you go so you are not anxious before you leave about the room.

We were once way back in turle pond. We liked everything but the stupid fountain out in the grass area that was on all the time. At first it was quaint but then became annoying.

The bus system was great and we like being back there.
