What Not To Buy...

We have all of the funky hats (tons of them), a few stuffed animals (Donald is also my weakness), and our lanyards (covered in pins + some to spare).

We just purchased new executive office furniture, and I'm thinking of painting the walls Donald colors (ya know... royal blue, yellow...) and DH will most likely strangle me - but I was thinking of hanging all of our Disney memoribilia on the walls. Stuff the ear hats with tissue paper and hang them up. Create another space for our lanyards and pins - maybe cover a cork board with some donald fabric, hang it on the wall and use it for our extra pins.

I think it would be so much fun while I'm working in my office ( = surfing the internet) to be able to look at all of our fun memories... maybe add a few snowglobes to the mix...

It's an idea - that way all of the souvinier stuff isn't worthless any more. ;)

I've been thinking about this for a couple days so I thought I would start a thread.

What are some things you always buy when you go to WDW, that you have vowed to either stop buying altogether, or at least cut back on?

I am 26 years old and have an addiction to stuffed animals. I have so many stuffed animals (Disney and otherwise) that I literally do not have room for any more. So this year when we head to Disney, it is my boyfriend's job to make sure that I don't buy any. :rolleyes1

Anyone else care to share?

I'm the same way !!! I don't think I can stop though. :rotfl:

Oh yeah.... on the trip this past weekend, I got some of those little vinyl people wearing Mickey T's and Mickey ears, for the back window of my car!!! Totally did not *need* them, but I love them!

I bought tons of Tigger souvenirs every trip, so many that I have tons of pens, notepads, mugs.

Now I allow myself three souvenirs per trip, period - that's it. It works reallly well - if I already have three souvenirs and decide that I "have to" have another, I make myself return one. [Jeez, I sound strict, huh? But it saves money, clutter, time . . .]

Ooooh, do you happen to remember where you bought them at, what park even? I'd love to have them for my van :).

I am 42 and without a doubt, addicted to buying stuffed animals. Every time we go to WDW, there is a new adorable Stitch or Dumbo that I *must* have. When we moved, I decided that the linen closet in the hallway would make a good place to keep everybody. They're all sittin' comfy on the shelves, out of the sun and dust. When I need a pick-me-up, I just open the closet door and smile!

My other vice is coffee mugs . . . all of our good plates are crammed into a small cabinet, but the mugs have the best spot, all lined-up with the "good" side facing outward.

Thank you everyone for letting me know I'm not alone! ;)

I love this idea. If you actually do it, I would be great to see some pictures.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! That's a good idea though about keeping them in the linen closet. Won't work at my house but I wish it would!

We also have probably close to 350 pins. Some on lanyards...most of them in a Disney bag that weighs about 25 pounds. I want to mount them all into shadow boxes and hang them up in our room, along with some framed Disney art. We got to meet one of the sketch artists are the Art of Disney store when we went last March and we sat there for about 3 hours while he drew pictures for us! It was a great experience and the drawings were all personalized. They look great in the frames, I just have to hang them...

We have a huge Disney Snowglobe collection...all of those are in the living room on bookshelves. Also...I went through all of my pictures from our trips, found my favorite 4 (one from each park), blew them up to 8 x 10, matted and framed them and hung them in the hallway that goes from our living room down towards the bedrooms. There is nothing like opening the bedroom door in the morning and having the Haunted Mansion right there in front of you! I am so happy with the way they turned out!

we recently set up an ofice for myself and my daughter and I figured it would be a good place to put our disney stuff. We dion't have tons but a few nice frames and a lot of disnwey family photos etc.
Anyhow - we have pins that we traded on a few different trips. I hung up a corkboard in the office - and decided to put pins on it. At first with JUST pins it looked a little junky - and the pins didn't fill it up so I re-did it with some 4x6' photos from our disney trip and then lined the pins up next to and around photos - grouped into sections based on theme and the photo.
It looks pretty good and I love that we finally have all of our pins up and displayed.
It's not as fancy as shadow boxes - but it may be a good inbetween step :) Or a good place for pins you might end up trading on your next trip.

This year I bought about 8 boxes of glow bracelets/necklaces at the dollar store. There are 15 bracelets in a box for $1. We will wear 10-20 of them at night and have fun giving them away to other kids that dont have one. I have two teenagers going with me and they are looking forward to that. :dance3: Just trying to focus on giving too. I am also giving my kids their money for purchases on the first day, and that's it. Once it's gone it's gone. I just hope my days of hearing "I want....I want.....I want" are over.

For the past few trips my children went with their own money. They knew that when it's gone, it's gone. This idea was a great break thru for me. This year I got them gift cards with their money so I didn't have to worry about missing money or mixing up the kids money.

The ice cube trays in the form of Mickey heads are totally worthless:sad2:I could NEVER get the ice out. It's the only thing in all our years of buying that rated a disappointment!

LOL!! I have those same ice cube trays, and have the same problem with them. I never use them BUT when my parents come over to BBSIt (once a week) my Dad makes ice and the MM ice is his favorite. When I come home from work I always have MM ice in my freezer!! Good old Dad!!

i have those same ice cube trays! I cant get that darn ice out either.

I always buy things I will see everyday, like a keychain or a cell phone charm. Not very expensive and makes me smile when I see it.
I also like to get a Christmas ornament for our tree.

This year I am thinking I want to check out the jewlery and watches

My DS will be almost 4 this year and has just started with the I wants so I need to figure out a way to deal with that. I do like to get him things you cant get anywhere else. Like we always do a box of potato head parts.

My light up toys are on there 3rd trip to disney some of them, the 1st 2 times we went we bought some and bring them back every trip. I have DS's hidden so they are "new" again in Sept

This is my vice too! I love my mugs!

I can't really say there is one thing or another that I should not or will not buy. I just want to "buy better" like the poster that said she really wants the watch - but ends up with keychains!

I want a Mickey watch! I've got a Tink and a Pooh watch. BUt I want a Mickey watch. But I'll most likely come home with a T-shirt! I'd also like one of the really nice fleece zip up hoodies. But I'll spend money on pins for the kids instead. But hey - thet LOVE the pin trading.

And to the poster that is not going to buyt the tub of popcorn...... That popcorn smells so darned good! It's hard not to give in! Good luck!

That's what I decided too. Buy better things. I got the Mickey watch that was $15 with qualifying purchase (DH bought his water resistant $30 Mickey watch). I bought pretty charms to add to my charm bracelet at home. And I got the official Flower and Garden Festival poster at Epcot, that the artist, sitting next door to that kiosk, signed.

My daughter(21), went nuts with the stuffed animal buying.

This is a great idea! :thumbsup2

I have an old corkboard downstairs and some felt in the closet! DS 8 now has a new project to work on for his room! He has so many pins we do not let him take them all on our visits anymore.

THANKS! :wizard:

We just came back from a spur-of-the-moment, budget type trip and I am proud to say that all I came back with was a Christmas ornament (Little Mermaid) to add to my collection and a mickey head bottle opener (which I did need, BTW). However, I am regretting not buying the mickey coffee scoop. :lmao:I mean, it was only $6 or so!!

I think some of you may not be old enough to remember that before there were refigerators with ice cube making built in, people had to use ice cube trays.

If your mickey trays are silicone and twisting them around does not free up the cube, then hold the tray over a colander in the sink and run warm water over the upside down tray. Cube should start to fall into the colander.

This will work on hard plastic cube trays also.

Now you can get clever and fill the trays with lemonade, let it freeze and then use lemonade cubes to flavor your ice tea.
