What NON toy/game items are you getting your kids?

DS10 is getting a bean bag chair, an iPod, Nike shoes, science experiment kits and thinking about an eReader.

DD4 is getting Justin Bieber concert tix and CD's but most of her stuff will be toys since she is young.

Each is getting a new bible and cover with handle, a gift certificate for the candy store at the mall.

It sounds like my boys will be getting a lot of the same non toys that others will. Things they will get or have gotten in the past:

Tickets to Blue Man Group which will be in our area soon
Archery sets
Tool box and tools
bean bag chairs
books/magazines (My oldest love National Geographic kids)
backpacks
clothes that I don't normally buy (name brand stuff)
pop tarts and some other junk foods we don't usually buy
i tunes gift card
camera
skis
blankets/bedding

My boys have December birthdays too. So we need a lot of ideas all at once.

I am underwhelmed by the toy selection I see in the stores these days. DGD age six is old enough this year to like Barbies and I can't believe how cheaply made they are now. Plastic garbage. I won't be getting them any cheap China made junk this year. I got burned by all the made-in-China crap that I bought at WDW this year; most of it fell apart the first week. Junk.
My grandkids are getting books, a few educational things from Fat Brain, and we will adopt some zoo animals. I am tired of spending big bucks on junk. :sad2:

I agree about the selection these days, nothing impressive. My girls have asked for Barbies too but they are nothing impressive. They are the same ones that have been on the shelves for the last two years. No wonder Barbie is having difficulty competing, they don't have the selection or quality they use to.

DD10 is getting:
- A vanity for her bedroom, with a lot of lipglosses and nailpolishes to go with it (I don't allow any other type of makeup yet)
- A Nook, with light, cover and a gift card to Barnes and Noble for books
- A back massage cushion (she loves the one on display at the Walgreens we go to - she always insists on "trying it out" whenever we go there)

My daughter is 19 so her "toys" are electronic and expensive! But she always gets a new perfume. Not sure which one she will want this year. She is big on Vera Wang and I'm not sure if she has a new one coming out for the holidays.

For toys she wants a Wii. Not sure if she is getting it or not. She also needs an external hard drive because her laptop is getting full - she has a ton of music on it. And she wants a new camera as well.

My grandson will get some clothes, maybe snow boots if I don't give them to him sooner. And toys!

My daughters love watching Cake Boss and Cupcake Wars so I saw a set at Lakeside that makes mini cakes it has small pans and decorating tips so I got two of those and some other tips and going to put some cake mixes and icing and going to get some other things to go with the set. I always buy them Easy Bake stuff and all the kids stuff but decided to just buy the real things this time

My daughters are almost 12 and 10 and we are getting out of toys and have all the game systems etc

We are also doing
Concert Tickets
Movie Gift Cards
Money Tree
New stuff for their rooms accessories, new chairs, comforters
Vanity, Brush Set etc

DS8 will get Ask and Ladybug while DS5 gets My Big Backyard (all magazines). They love magazines because then they have something to look forward to all year. DS5 will probably get a sled and craft supplies. I had a couple of shirts put away for DS8, but he grew so much I had to give them to him already! :) Two years ago they got nice Sigg waterbottles. Last year, DS8 got wall decals for his room and a rocket to build and launch. A few years ago they got beanbags with denim covers. I think Santa is bringing a Quadrilla marble set for them this year (shh!), but I think of that as a toy. Hope that helps!

DS5 gt a Quadrilla set a couple of years ago and loves it!

Cookie mix, cake mix, sprinkles, and mickey popsicle molds.
