What night for Palo - and why?

I'll be sailing on the Magic, Eastern itinerary, next Februrary, and I know my DH and I will dine at least one evening in Palo. The question is, which night? Because we're a childless (young) couple, I'm assuming we'll be assigned to LAPLAPL (late seating), so I've already determined which nights are theme nights, show night in AP, etc. But I just can't decide which evening to miss - the theme nights sound fun, but the regular menus in each restaurant look good, too.

My question to all of you previous cruisers is: which night (or nights) did you dine in Palo, and why did you choose that night? Please help me out!

We dined at Palo's on Thursday night, and it was wonderful. The only hesitation I had was the fact that I LOVE lobster and it was lobster night in the dining rooms. I told our head server that we would be dining at Palo's and hated to miss the lobster. He had TWO lobster dinners sent to my stateroom!

Never ate so much food in my life. It was fantastic!

Aside from that, I suggest you wait until at least Tuesday night so that you will have visited each dining room once, and don't miss Animator's Palate the night of the show. I also strongly suggest that you be in the dining room on the last night of the cruise for the 'farewell' show - it is delightful.

With that in mind, I feel Wed. and Thurs. are the best bets.

Actually, to see the show in Animator's Palate, I have to wait until Wednesday, because Sunday night is Master Chefs/Formal night. My husband is like you - he does NOT want to miss lobster night! I'll have to tell him about your dining adventure.

I would give up a dinner at Lumiere's/Triton's because that's my least favorite menu. I have trouble finding something that really appeals to me.

We ate at Palos on Thurs and I had lobster there. It was very good. Our server for brunch told us that you can get lobster anywhere on Thurs, but it was prepared differently at Palos. Also, it was semi-formal night so we were already dressing up.

We typically skip Parrot Cay because it is our least favorite menu. if you haven't already, look over the menus and see which ones look the most and least appealing to help you decide. I have them on my website at www.castawayclub.com and Dave has them at www.dcltribute.com
Definitely don't miss that lobster...it's excellent! I think they have to at Palo as the special on Captain's Night too, but then you would miss out on trying a regular Palo item.

I've actually already looked over all the menus - which made our decision even more difficult, as they all sounded appealing! And for the couple of nights where the menu didn't sound quite as yummy, the theme or event makes the night a don't-miss-it. Argh!

Barb, my DH had the same reasoning about lobster at Palo as you - he doesn't want to miss lobster, but he doesn't want to miss out on a Palo entree as well! I'm more ambivalent towards lobster, but DH has made it his top priority, meal-wise.

Right now, I'm leaning towards Sunday night, skipping the Master Chefs menu and our non-show night in AP. I'm a little sad to miss formal night in the main dining room, but at least our fancy duds won't go to waste at Palo!

I've heard( first time next Nov.) that it's a good idea to eat there when you are at a port. The view of the island with all the lights is so pretty, whereas there is nothing to see when you are at sea.

We go to Palos on the night we would usually have the Parrot Cay menu, because we can find very little on it that we enjoy!

We missed the Master Chef series dinner on Formal Night in Animators Palate because the menus we read ahead of time didn't look as appealing. It worked well because it wasn't the show night in AP and we had first choice for reservations because most peolple didn't want to miss formal night! Our server said we chose a good night also!

We had LALLAPL late seating too last cruise and used the last "L" for going to Palo's, so we did every restaurant twice. But I must say we weren't overwhelmed by the experience at Palo's. As the restaurant is on the top deck of the ship and directly in the stern, we felt the motion of the ship more intense than in any other place on board. The food was OK, but not exactly thrilling.
I think next time we'll skip Palo's and stay in the regular rotation.

Just a thought here, but could you book an early dinner at Palo on one of the nights that the menu at your regular restaurant doesn't thrill you, but you want to be there for the show? I think this works better when you have early seating, but it seems that it could be done with late seating.

We did Palo's on the last night. Thought it would give us a nice way to end the cruise. One of the couples from this board said they did it the first night, and they got even better service because not too many booked for that night as they want to meet their servers and others at their table.

We just got back from the Eastern and it was just me and my husband and we did get the LAP rotation. Take a look at the menus on Dave's website (www.dcltribute.com) and go on the night you least like.

We had the 2nd, 8:30 seating...we chose to do Palo on Wed...St. Thomas Day because that menu was least appealing to us. We booked Palo for 6pm (we were starved by then because we spent the day at the Beach)...had a great dinner at Palo, then went to our regular 8:30 seating in Animator's Palate because we didn't want to miss the Light Show...we did get a great appetizer...Lobster and Shrimp roll and nothing else and enjoyed the show. My DH also got a dessert. Wed. nite early Palo dinner worked out great for us...we'd do it that way again.
