What music do you hate?

I like a little of most genre's. Having said that, however, my least favorites are rap, heavy metal, and twangy country.

I have some of Dylan's early stuff on my iPod, but nothing he's done since the Traveling Wilburys.

My iPod has identity issues because I have nearly every genre on there. Putting it on shuffle can be a really interesting experience. I have everything from Beethoven, Chopin and Brahms to Jay-Z, Lady Gaga and Rascal Flatts.

I had to laugh, because when people were talking about folks who write good songs but cannot sing them, the first thing I thought of were the Traveling Wilburys! :thumbsup2

I mean, besides Dylan, do you usually want to hear George Harrison, Tom Petty or Roy Orbison sing? ;)

I was going to say that I hate rap, but that's not entirely true. I think the only form I ever liked was by Will Smith. It's the "gangsta" stuff that I cannot stand.

I'm not a big fan of country, but I thought the crossover music from Shania Twain and Faith Hill were songs I could listen to without having convulsions.

I also think that certain artists will convert you by osmosis. Case in point, Lady Gaga. When I first heard "Poker Face", I thought I lost 50 IQ points. I just didn't like that song. But I really enjoy "Paparazzi" and to some extent, "Bad Romance". Although the overplay on those songs is starting to wear thin.

Speaking of overplaying songs, I cannot listen to Leona Lewis. It was bleedin' song of hers that was playing ad nauseum. I would switch stations as soon as I hear the opening refrains of that song.

While I haven't been into heavy metal, there are some bands whose songs were not as heavy, for lack of a better word. I couldn't listen to death metal, but I have no problem with some of the "hair bands" of the 80s.

I have an eclectic taste in music. I have on my iPod everything from classical, to Sinatra and Tom Jones, to Berlin, Thompson Twins and Human League (my 80s is showing!), to Disney songs (naturally!), to the "location" bands like Chicago, Boston, Kansas. I jump around genres.

I stopped listening to radio when I got the iPod, and it's a double edged sword. I don't miss the overplaying of songs, but I find that I miss a lot of new music.

Please go listen to the Dylan Christmas CD on iTunes.

It made me laugh out loud again this morning.

I think Must Be Santa is the funniest.

"Who's got a big red cherry nose?'

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I am not a big fan of country (ironic, being born and bred in TX!). I like some of the older country (like some Reba and wynona), but i just don't really care for it.

You can also take the extremely heavy rap. I do enjoy some good rap, but not the really heavy stuff where every other word has to be bleeped out.

take the disney channel music too. had about enough of it. My friend sees the Jonas brothers at the grocery store and stuff all the time- they live nearby right outside Dallas

Give me some goold old awesome 80s and i am one happy girl.

heavy metal.

Awwwww  Well, at least only one person's said heavy metal so far. :lmao: Yes, it may be just noise to many people, but hey, it's all about having a good time!~ Woohoo!

Let's see...I'm trying to think of a kind of music I can't stand. Country's ok, but in small doses. Pop's fine for me too...but also in small doses :rotfl: Rap doesn't phase me. I hear it everyday so it's not really bothersome.

I think I'm going to have to agree with everyone else and say that the whole 'Disney Channel' teeny bopper thing is really reeeallly not cool. Let's have Selena Gomez or the Jonas kids tryout for Idol and see how far they get

I love Bob Dylan (mainly because of the song meanings), but I must say the Christmas Cd just made MY EARS BLEED!!!!:scared1::scared1: this is just painful....
I hope after this he realize he shouldn't sing Christmas music:rotfl:
I thought "Have yourself a little Merry Christmas" was the most painful, that song has to be smooth...

Country music. It all sounds the same, although there are two genres, the ones that try to sound hillbilly, and the ones that try to be country pop.

I'll stick with The Clash thank you very much.

I'm with you on this. Just can't stand country music. Not a fan of rap either.

Ok .. that was bad. and funny. Oh my.

But what about anything sung by William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy. :scared1:

I know the Raffi version, but I always thought it was a dumb song. The idea of Bob Dylan singing it is enough to make me wretch.

I've always said that I really like his songs...when someone else sings them. "Mr. Tambourine Man" is a great example.

Bob Dylan and Neil Young top my list of singers I can't stand. I do love "Positively 4th Street", though. I like songs where the singer is seething with hatred.

I like most music. I'm a music lover. But I have to admit the appeal of Taylor Swift's music escapes me. I hear her music and I start switching channels. I like her as a person but her music is like nails on a chalkboard. I admit I'm hit or miss on Disney Channel singers but I'm not overly impressed with any of them. Most have one good song in them and that's it::guilty:

Have you noticed that the older Tom Petty gets the more he sounds like Bob Dylan? Or is it just me? And I like Tom Petty alot.

I hate most everything since about 1968---:)
So thank goodness for Satellite Radio where I can still hear those great songs from the 40's, 50's and early to mid 60's--not to mention Broadway.

My position is similar to Kevin's. There is lots of music I don't listen to but there is little if any that I hate. Mostly I look for songs with great vocals. Not stunt singing. Just a clean voice that I can understand. The performers who impress me are the ones who sound just as good, if not better, live as they do coming out of the studio. Beyond that I have some very eclectic tastes.

Funny you should mention that live vs. studio thing. My local radio station will have live shows with current artists, and they'll also have artists come with them on yearly trips to the Mexican Riviera. The Mexico trip coming up in a few weeks will feature Train and Lifehouse. In years past they had Josh Kelley and Natasha Bedingfield.

You know when you hear them sing live if they have the pipes or not. One of my favorite live show appearances featured Pink. That girl is the real deal. Personally, I think she tweaked the noses of the rest of the artists by singing while performing circus stunts. Showoff. :rotfl2:

Have you checked out www.wolfgangsvault.com? Some very good mid-60's stuff on there. Found some great Clapton (Cream) concerts from the Fillmore the other day.

I first heard Natasha Bedingfield when she appeared on Sunday Morning on CBS before Unwritten had been released in North America. She did an acoustic version of Unwritten or These Words (I can't remember which) that totally sold me on her talent.

James Taylor, whether you like his music or not, is another person who when he performs live sounds exactly like he is in the studio.

Hate hate hate ALL rap/hip hop. Almost as bad is country or as they said in Blues Brothers...country AND western. no interest in opera. and when did the law get passed that all heavy metal singers have to sound the same ? whats with that throat thing they all do nowadays ? bring back the metal of the 70s/80s.

Basically.... TAYLOR SWIFT!!! What is the appeal, anyway?? She's horrid! Off-key, imperfect pitch, whiny, same-old-same-old themes in her music... GAG ME!!!

I despise country and x-rated rap too.

Pretty much, if it isn't the Beatles or Paul McCartney... I don't wanna hear it.
