What movie would you call "universally loved"?

Gone with the Wind, E.T., West Side Story, Life is Beautiful?.....of course so many Disney movies.

Any number of Disney movies. My vote would be for Pirates.
Don't shoot me....I love Disney, but I hate Pirates.
Not a big Wizard of Oz fan and I've never seen the Godfather because I have absolutely no interest in it.
I would agree with Sound of Music, Gone With the Wind...and would add Remember the Titans and Top Gun. I don't know anyone who has seen those who doesn't like those. But there's no such thing as a universally loved movie...just best-loved.

BUZZ!!!!

I HATED Titanic with a violent passion, so that's off the list. DH HATES Wizard of Oz, so there goes that choice too.

BAck To the Future?

Star Wars?

You'll always find somebody who didn't like some film.

Wizard of Oz and Forrest Gump popped into my head.

I have yet to meet a person who didn't like The Princess Bride.

The Princess Bride is a good one.:thumbsup2

The first ones that popped into my head are:
Sound of Music
Big
Singin' in the Rain

I am another who loves Shawshank Redemption AND one who never cared for ET (even as a kid when it was in theaters I jsut didn't "get" it:confused3)

Very true

Have to admit the flying monkeys in the wizard of oz freak me out...
so that a no for me

my first thought was Casablanca

I didn't like Back to the Future, I duno I'm just weird.

How about Mont Python and the Holy Grail? I don't know anyone who hates that movie

I agree that it would be hard to find a movie everyone likes. I didn't like Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark, and my Mother hated Wizard of Oz.

I would say

Gone with the Wind
Sound of Music
It's a Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street
Wizard of Oz

I really only like Miracle on 34th Street and Wizard of Oz on that list.
I do like West Side Story, but don't think it makes the universal criteria.

I do not like Back to the Future.
Anything Monty Python
Groundhog Day (although DH loves it)

My personal additions would include
Christmas Story
Grease
Christmas Carol

My Cousin Vinny gets my vote

As well as....

Toy Story

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Star Wars

I'm with you--I don't think there is a single movie that everyone likes. I know that I don't like It's a Wonderful Life, Titanic (thought that was one of the dumbest movies ever made), my mom disliked Star Wars, I know lots of people who don't like animated movies, etc.

Definitely not Titantic.
Maybe universally loved by women, but a lot of guys hated it because it was so sappy and romantic, and had a Celine Dion song.

My first thought was ET. Not sure how anyone can not be touched by that movie.
I'd also say Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Here's a woman who hated Titanic!

I hated Top Gun.
