WHAT?!? Mexico's military crossed our border???

But, but, but... how come no-one in charge has had a press conference to tell me what is going on?

<snip>

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are neither powerful nor important enough to warrant such a thing.

I am confident that the powers that should know have been briefed and will respond appropriately.

As far as not liking news sources, you could always start your own - good luck!

Yaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnnnn.

Why the contempt? Do you not agree that Al Qaeda used the border to its advantage as a way to evade capture? I believe that incursions into Pakistan have often been necessary in order to chase and catch these terrorists.

Likewise, criminals are using the US-Mexico border for their illegal operations and to evade capture. It seems to me that cooperation across the border would benefit both countries. :confused3

No where in that press release does it even suggest that Mexico's soldiers are free to cross the border to conduct operations. That would be news. What you linked to is very old news.

It's not really news because there have been cases in the past that this was allowed.

Pretty sure the soldiers aren't here to raid an American city but rather to catch their own men here.

If any case, I am sure the President will personally call you up and give you the pinpoints. It wouldn't do you very well to run around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Rather than calling me in Connecticut, he should 'call' the border agents who have the responsibility for securing the border and don't seem to know about this 'top secret' operation.

How do you know he isn't? You are actually making accusations based on assumptions, you don't really have the full facts.

There could have been a breakdown in communication among people that should know what this is about. I don't see anyone here that is that group though so none of us know what happened or why and likely never will.

And neither do you.

Actually, I am not decrying the Mexican army or the American one. I am not making any accusations of what the border patrol is or should be doing, also without making any statement based on hard basis of facts. Those are all pointed in your statements throughout the thread.

The border patrol protects the borders. They should be informed of any operations. On the other hand, why should the Mexican Navy respect our borders, the population of Mexico doesn't.

She speaks the stone cold, unpleasant truth.

As of today, the US govt. is saying they did not authorize the Mexican helicopters to cross the border, but are essentially saying it's no big deal since "no one was alarmed." :headache:

HELLO! The US citizens who saw Mexican helicopters over their Texas houses were plenty alarmed, you eejits. But why should the US government bother itself with the concerns of American citizens? The main thing is.....Let's never hurt Mexico's feelings even if it means letting them do whatever they want, whenever they want. The US needs to grow a backbone in worst way. Sadly, even if they did, it would be 25 years too late. :rolleyes1

The British military has been know to cross over into the Republic of Ireland.

:surfweb: You made me spit out my coffee! :rotfl:

Careful now - last time this was discussed we managed to get the thread locked!
Happy St Patrick's Day!!:rolleyes1

This needs to be taken more seriously by the US government. If we had US military on our side of the border I would hope there would be a strong reaction. Borders and neigbouring countries are to be respected - no matter what the intentions of the military units that took it upon themselves to cross.

I guess some of us assumed correctly!

Sorry, but that statement is a joke. The border patrol is infiltrated with corruption just as badly as the Mexican police. I grew up in Brownsville, one of the towns referenced in the original article. My house was literally blocks from the levee. It's a free for all down there. It was common knowledge back then that a significant portion of border agents were on the take. And, the number of corrupt agents has risen significantly today. It's simple they do what the drug lords want them to do, or their family is targeted.

The flaw is this entire thread is the assumption that these American border towns are indeed American. Spend a day in Brownsville and you'll see that it is an extension of Mexico. Drug battles occur there monthly, if not more frequently. Stray bullets have made there way into residential neighborhoods. Neighborhoods occupied by little old ladies, like my mom, who blindly believe that their quiet little town is still safe.

Just a couple questions you may not have thought about. How many border patrol agents have illegal aliens living with them right now? How many border patrol agents have dual citizenship because their parents are Mexican citizens? How many border patrol agents have direct ties to the drug cartels? The answers are a motherload, the majority or a whole freakin' lot.

I've got news for you all. Our border towns became little Mexico 40 years ago. None of this is anything new. San Antonio is the new Mexican border in Texas. And, it's slowly creeping north. Anything south is San Antonio IS Mexico.

I heard he did last week?

If there was an agreement, we would know about it. It would be touted as "the United States and Mexico cooperate in war on drugs at the border". Surely the border agents would know about it so that they don't repel the Mexican soldiers. We have an unfortunate history if turning our backs on the wrong doing of our neighbors to the south, who have no problem sending their citizens here to prop up their failing government.

Do you honestly think the government tells us everything that goes on? Do you think maybe, just maybe there are things going on that they don't tell us about to protect us and not start waves of hysteria?

And what, Mexico is invading the U.S? Really now? I think your tin foil hats have fallen down over your eyes.

But, but, but... how come no-one in charge has had a press conference to tell me what is going on?

Classified, top secret perhaps? I really believe this was approved by someone in the US, but we'll never know who or why.

Loose lips sink ships.

Heavens, you know that there are occasional "accidental incursions" by the US into foreign air space, too, right?

Mexico sent a lot of Army personnel into San Antonio with portable stoves and lots of food to help feed Katrina evacuees during that emergency relocation. We were happy to have them. We are on friendly term with Mexico, last I heard.
