Well, I know HOW, but which method do you use? Do you call day by day or do you wait until the end and then make one call?

We have a 7 month timeframe coming up and are thinking about switching. Curious as to your prefferred method (and why...)

Thanks!

We've never felt the need to book day-by-day. Can't be bothered making multiple phone calls and never had a problem getting the resort we want at the 7 month window.

Well, the only time we've switched reservations was last year. We made ressies for a 2 BR at SSR 11 months out and switched to a 2 BR at OKW at 7 months. Because these are both bigger resorts, I felt comfortable waiting to switch all at once. I did so successfully.

This year, we are using double developer points to book at BCV. For that, you better believe I'm calling daily! With the restrictions on the DD points, and the fact that where we want to stay is very small and popular, I am doing it this way to increase my chances of success.

So, I think it depends on where you're switching TO and the time of year of your reservation.

I've only done it once and I did it for the whole 3 nights for my DW. I did not do it day-by-day.

Just used day-to-day to book BCV, AKL and HHI for our March break and week before Easter. We would really like to stay at all the DVC Resorts, we like the variety. As I know that it is potentially a busy time and it was important to my boys that they stay at BCV and AKL, we decided to book day-to-day. I'll do the same to get BWV and Vero on our next trip. After that I really won't mind - or at least I don't think I will :)

We call once for the entire trip change. Why? Because we (I) hate to move resorts during a trip!

I think it also has something to do with that fact that we did indeed buy where we really liked to stay. So even if we can't switch at 7 months, we'll be at a DVC resort we really enjoy. That makes it a great situation for us! :thumbsup2

I have never used day by day call in for reservations -- wastes my time and the CMs -- just my 2 cents.

I think it depends on the time of your trip and the resort you are trying to switch to. Any holiday, F/W fest, halloween and BCV, BWV, VWL and AKV until kidani is built or if you want concierge or value rooms. I don't know about HH or VB.

I'm not quite sure why you think it wastes the CMs' time. :confused3 It's their job to make reservations for members when they call, whether or not that reservation is one day or 10 days in length. I can see why you feel it wastes your time, although I still hold to the fact that, for certain resorts and certain times of year, it may be beneficial to call day by day.

Yes, it is their job to take the calls. But, I can see what the poster is saying here, calling every day does add to the number of calls that need to be handled and thus the overall cost of DVC dues.

Okay, I get part of what you're saying - I can see that it increases call volume and, as a result, wait time for callers. How does it increase DVC dues, though?

Higher call volume means more operators are needed to handle the phones. Hence there will be higher costs for member services, which is paid for by all of us in dues.

I have never switched out a ressie at 7 months, but I doubt I would feel any more compelled to do day by day than I would be at 11 months. That is, unless I was trying to get a difficult to procure ressie at a difficult to book resort. For example: If I was trying to switch to VWL during holiday time, or BCV during F&W time, I'd probably call day by day, but if I was trying to switch to SSR or OKW...probably not.

2 times I've changed at the 7 month mark. Both times I did it with one call and got what I wanted, a 1 BR at VWL for Labor Day week and a 2 BR at BCV (didn't get dedicated) for last week. I think if I was trying to switch during a very busy time I'd do the day by day.

We will be in WDW 12-13 through 12-22. 12-13, 14, and 15 I booked day by day to get into VWL. Will then switch to our home resort when the balance of the family joins us.
