We are bringing our contact grill/panini maker and a crock pot. I know I can do a pot roast...what other meals do you usually make while in a studio? I really need some ideas. TIA

don't forget that most, if not all, resorts have barbeque grills to use. cook some macroni at home put in a ziploc bag, then into a small sealed container and bring for macroni salad. if you order groceries ahead of time - pick up some hamburg, etc for the grill and see if you need charcoal or if they are gas grills. then we pick up cold cuts and bread and make sandwiches with chips, salad, etc. Wegoshop dot com is a good one to order from and it will be delivered to your villa. have fun. can't wait until august when we will be there.

Since you're going to have your crock pot how about chili? It's fast to put together. Grab some corn muffins (I usually make corn bread but you're not going to have a conventional oven) or some rice you can make in the microwave and you set.

I've also made chicken and pork chops in the crock pot. If you just sit and think what you make "on the stove" you can usually convert for the crock pot.

Hey....have fun. I wish I was going!! :thumbsup2

The BBQ grills will all need charcoal.

You can make the chili in your crockpot the same way you do on the stove, with the exception that you'll need to cook the goundbeef either at home (and then freeze it for travel) or cook a few extra hamburgers on the grill and break them up into small pieces. You can cook groundbeef in microwave but it doesn't come out all that great. Actually, I've done it in the crockpot before too--you just would have to plan ahead and cook the groundbeef a while before you wanted to mix up the chili. Pre-cooking it at home (unless you plan to grill) would be the easiest way.

Do a Google search for crock-pot recipes. I have several crock-pot cookbooks that have some great recipes in them. I'm sure you'll find a bunch online too!

Keep in mind that the refrigerator is not huge. It is bigger than a typical college/dorm fridge, but doesn't have tons of space. You won't want to have too many leftovers or fresh food because it won't fit well.

There is a great BBQ envelope package in the supermarket that I believe is mccormick that is designed for the crock pot. It is fantastic for Pork BBQ. You will need a pork roast, ketchup and vinegar though to add to the recipe. Look on the back of the package and you will see what it requires. Worth it though- it is SO good, and I am from the south so I know good BBQ! Add some rolls and maybe some chips, and you are good to go!

how would I do chili in the crock pot? normally I do it on the stove.

You can do it as Alexander said or put the ground meat in the crock pot uncooked. I saw this on one of the Food Network Shows; can't remember which one. But they put the meat down first, then the tomatoes with all the other spices (or chili mix) mixed in with the tomatoes. Poured that on top of the meat and set the pot for the perferred time and that was it. They raved about it on the show. Personally, I prefer my meat "browned" some first. But you do what you can with what you have!!! ;)

McCormick has great mixes for almost everything!!!

Meatball subs. You can buy frozen meatballs and cook in spaghetti sauce. I sweeten my sauce a litle. Serve on hoagie buns topped with a little mozzerella cheese. Yummy and easy.

For big family gatherings I also bring my crockpot. One of our favorites is shredded beef for taco's burritos and taco salads. I take a beef roast and cook it in the crock pot with taco seasoning mix and a jar of salsa, I had sliced onions and peppers. When it's all cooked I shred the beef and return it to the vegetables and cooking juices. It's moist and tasty, you can even make cheese steak sandwiches with it just by adding cheese and a nice hoagie bun. To make it a little spicier you can add a jar of peperocinis alos.

I prefer it to ground meat.

That sounds yummy and I just happen to have a roast in the freezer! Well there's one meal for next week. :rotfl:
