I'm sorry you feel that way but I can understand your sentiment. What I love about NY:

Rural NY - the beauty of the land

Urban NY- you don't need a car to get around making the disabled and elderly independent.

NY Wines
Rochester Hot Dogs


Downstate:
the business
the culture
the people
the energy
the roar of the subway
the traffic noises
the resilience of the people
the ethnic traditions that carry over through the generations
the access to the best of everything (health care, universities, etc)

I've been a up-stater and a down-stater--- I love them both! Even though I live in Ohio now, I'm always in a New York State of Mind =)

I was just coming to type this. Absolutely everything makes it great, even the things we complain about. There is nothing like it in the world. I hope I never have to leave here. As much as I hate the cold weather, insane amounts of traffic, and higher prices than other places, I would never ever change a thing.
