What makes FW GREAT

We love the little details...the music playing at the Settlement, the low lighting along the paths and roads, the fact that there are paths just inviting you to take a walk or bike ride, and the gorgeous landscaping are just a few. We even cancelled one of the park days we had planned just to have more time at the campground last week.

Also, how easy would it be for our 2 year old to ride his tricycle at one of the hotels? The combination of the great exercise and fresh air makes for some really great naps for both our boys and for us too! And while they nap in the camper we can sit out under our awning and read, watch TV, people watch, or just rest, instead of being cooped up in a hotel room. Too, I might be imagining this (or just crazy) but I think FW has it's own great smell. There really is no other place like it!

Thanks for posting about your trip. It's sounds like you had a wonderful time. My DD is looking forward to the movies and sing alongs more than the parks I think and she keeps asking if they'll be showing Freaky Friday. It's her new favorite movie :)
We're from Erie too! Well a little outside of Erie (North East to be exact) It must have been wonderful to get away from all of this ice and snow!:sunny:

Thats not your imagination. You have been infected by the Fort Wilderness virus, the only cure is to keep going back to FW as often as time and money permits ;)

Well Hello Neighbor!

Looking forward to the Cherry Festival with it's Cherry pie and turnovers! Yum! And besides, by the time that rolls around we should be thawed out! You think?

We love to leave the snow and ice and enjoy the warmth of FL. It really helps us get through the winter blues.

We are planning to take our grandkids to Ft. Wilderness in Dec this year, but we'll be getting there about the time you leave.
Hope you have a great time!

It's funny you say that. DD just collected her allowance for the week and I told her to be sure to set some aside for Cherry Festival (I pay for rides, she pays for games). She said "are you kidding, this is all for DW! I'm not playing CF games this year"
We all have our priorities:)
BTW, if you can handle a little more ice, we were just over in Mayville NY and saw the big ice castle they have built there. It's right near Lake Chataqua. The kids thought it was the coolest (pun intended) thing ever! That would be a fun outing for the grandkids!

Have camped there twice and love it, love it, love it! We stayed 9 days last June and were still not ready to go home. There are so many great things about it that everyone has already posted, but I just have to add!
The fact that you can fix your own food is a big plus. We didn't do this every day, of course, but when you eat breakfast before you leave for the parks (cereal or toast, whatever) and you fix an occassional dinner (we put our crockpot on in the morning and came home to a ready-cooked meal in the evening), you have lots of extra money to spend on character meals, scrapbooking supplies, I survived Tower of Terror t-shirts, and other important things! :D
The facilities are so clean and nice that I often took my stuff down to the showers where I had more room and so others could shower back at the camper.
My girls LOVE the campfire and movie (Chip and Dale are their all-time favorites).
Don't get me wrong, I love staying in the resorts, too. But I really loved camping!
You're going to have a great time!

Don't forget fishing, canoeing on the canals, horseback riding, playing horse shoes, boat rentals, lying in a hammock by the beach, looking for turtles and small alligators in the canals, watching the blacksmith reshoe the horses, visiting the horse stables, evening hay rides, boat rides to the Magic Kingdom, and, in the past (no longer), swimming at River Country.
