What makes a Disney Deluxe Resort "worth it?"

I am often asked if I think staying in one of the Deluxe Resorts is worth the high, per night cost. In this week's edition of the Dreams Unlimited Travel Podcast, the panel talks in detail about the Disney Deluxe Resorts and what makes them 'worth it' for them.

Also, if you're on Twitter and/or Facebook, Dreams Unlimited Travel is giving away a 5-day, 4-night stay at a select Disney Deluxe Resort for a family of 4 - check out the details here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-resorts/deluxe-edition1.htm.

I hope that you guys will also take a look this week as some members of the Podcast team share their reasons for loving The Contemporary Resort, Beach Club Resort, Polynesian Village and Animal Kingdom Lodge!

Today's video is on The Contemporary and it's pretty fantastic! I just love it there; it holds a special place in my heart because our Moms Panel videos were filmed in the exact same spot at the California Grill! Just love it! :lovestruc

I can't wait to watch all of this later. I have only done deluxe once and that was BC I hope to stay at others soon!
I have stayed in every one of them at least once and I truly love them all. Of course, there are different things about each one that makes them so lovable to me!!

Thanks for posting this, Jackie!
Lots of great information in this one show, but I think my favorite part was Pete mentioning that the Rivers of Light dining package would be available by the time this went out. Little did he know ... even staying concierge level can't get you that one right now.
And I loved the Contemporary video. It made me want to stay at the Contemporary even more than I already do. Although I don't think I will ever forgive Kevin for making me cry.

What makes a Disney Deluxe Resort "worth it?"
Location, location, location. As a kid, (an even now), it was really cool to have the monorail soar right through your hotel. So that gives the Contemporary a leg up. The Poly has always had a huge advantage in terms of "I'm on vacation" theming. (Although I absolutely hate the way they neutered the Ceremonial House Lobby.) Animal Kingdom Lodge has the added attraction of savannah view rooms. But if I didn't book one of those, I would not stay there. The Wilderness Lodge is sort of an anomaly for me. Its theming isn't compelling to me, and its location isn't good enough to warrant Deluxe pricing. Having stayed there once, I can't see myself going back. As for the Grand Floridian, Yacht, Beach and Boardwalk, the only true advantage they have is location. None of those resorts has theming that I would pay extra for, and none have rooms that are in any way superior to any other resort. So for me, when we stay in the MK area, it is the Contemporary or Poly, and if we stay in the Epcot area, it is the Swan or the Dolphin which have all of the location advantages of the other Deluxe Resorts at half to a third the price.

That's the eventual goal to stay in all of them.
My original goal that started back in Feb. of '93 was to stay everywhere on property, and I found 2 nights was the perfect length for me to really "check out" a place, if I couldn't stay any longer due to cost, or whatever. I was doing really well - then they started building 'em too fast, and I also started doing mostly mods and values, so it quickly got expensive. It also might take longer for me to check out a place now, since the "checking out process" has slowed down along with me. :) It also helped that I had good friends who are DVC members, and stayed as their guests several times, along with winning a DVC contest that gave me 225 points for 3 years to enjoy, and I tried to stay places I hadn't stayed, and/or couldn't afford as easily, as well as take others with me to enjoy the prize. Still like to revisit that goal someday though!

I really enjoyed the first video. I appreciated hearing the team members' stories about what connected them with the Contemporary and all the beautiful video footage of the property. I have never stayed in a deluxe resort before, but always enjoy visiting and dining. Maybe eventually I'll take the plunge and stay in one. Thanks for what, so far, is an informative and interesting series!

Great Dreams Unlimited Travel podcast today too!

100% location.

Id be willing to stay in a Mod or Value if they were as accessible and in a location of a deluxe (yes i know, will never happen, im just making a point)

I love the Yacht club (rooms, the lobby I couldn't care less about, I spend about 15 minutes there, to check in and out and walk through to get to the bus) and I'm really looking forward to going back and also to stay at BLT

For anyone who ever questioned Kevin, skip to 57:00 on this episode. I will be purchasing this magic band.

I'm only half way through, but so far it's a great episode. Learning and laughing a lot.

I might need to get my Dad a shirt that says, "Walk with Purpose!" on the back for our trip. lol.

I really loved today's video showcasing Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! This was the very first Deluxe Resort I ever stayed in and it was oh-so-magical! It sure has changed a lot since 2009, but I love it just the same. :lovestruc

@WebmasterJackie the Poly remains my dream resort (we've only gone once when we could afford Deluxe and that was when the Poly was under construction so we stayed at the Contemporary) - and this video only reinforced this! (plus I hear the updated pool area is amazing)

We do try to visit the resort every trip though, usually watching Wishes from the beach on our arrival night

It's really so beautiful! I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I walked into the lobby. One time when we absolutely could not afford tickets to MNSSHP, we had dinner at the Kona Cafe and then laid in a hammock on the beach watching the MNSSHP fireworks that night while our kiddos played in the sand with buckets and shovels. It was so super magical!!

YES! Hallowishes from the Poly beach is amazing - you can really get the sense of how wide spread the perimeter fireworks are
