We just spent 9 nights at the Wilderness Lodge in Oct. We were only reserved for 6 but (after spending 5 hectic days in the parks) on the 6th day front desk called us about the stampede rate. We then had 3 days to relax, pool, etc. If we didnt have these relaxing days we wouldnt have made the time to see the disney vacation club at the Boardwalk.

We sat with DVC people on the Disney "Magic" during lunch. They talked, we listened, we toured, we bought.

Just curious.

What's the stampede rate. It sounds intriguing.

Sorry, I didn't really answer your question.

We first took the DVC tour in 1992. We took it several more times through the years until we bought in this year.

We love Disney, which is why we toured, but we couldn't convince ourselves that DVC was the way to go. Boy were we wrong. If only I could travel back in time.

My television-holic husband (is that a TH??) was flipping through the channels at the Polynesian on our first visit. He liked what he saw, made an appt with the desk in the lobby and then told me about it. We went and signed on the dotted line right there. We have added more points two more times.

I was at WDW May 2000 for a Trade Show and the last night before the big Microsoft party at west end of PI for the trade show, we met some people at the brew pub on the boardwalk. I saw the sign as we passed through to the boardwalk, I love disney so when I got home I looked it up and got a video last year. Then this year I got an offer from DVC for VB. I was going to take that offer and even made the ressies, but then decided to rent points at OKW because the main reason we are going is to go to the parks. I have an appointment for a tour when we are there as part of a (semi) evil plan to get the girlfriend interested.

I don't know when we will purchase, but I don't think I will let up on her until we do.

I had actually ordered the video before our first trip and trolled these boards a little so I was pretty well informed. DH liked WDW so much that on a Sunday at WDW our first week I got him to sign up for the tour on Monday. It was a rainy Monday and BWV didn't look all that great, plus he is a salesman so he resisted, but I got him to sign up within a month (I was sold the minute I first walked into MK and saw the castle!) Now we are not only going back for our 3rd trip next summer, we are doing a quickie weekend next month to see the holiday decorations.

We had never stayed on property in 6 trips to Disney! I know, hard to believe. The first year BW opened we strolled the Boardwalk with DS, who was 15, and he said "Mom, wouldn't it be great to stay there, JUST ONCE?!"

So, we skipped the next year, saved up and reserved for cash (full price, yikes!). Silly me, I figured that this might be the last family trip because DS was a teenager and would be "too old" to travel with parents. Before we went we got a letter from DVC inviting us to take a tour. I was going to just toss it, but DH said "Might as well check it out."

The rest is history. We had a 1 BDRM overlooking the Boardwalk and of course were hooked from the 1st minute. Our jaws literally dropped when we walked in. Even my then 17 year-old blase son was impressed. And, of course, being our first time onsite, had our best vacation ever. We took the tour, crunched the numbers and signed up within a month. Wished we'd done it sooner!

I didn't take "the tour" until after I bought!

I ran across DVC while visiting some Disney web sites. I kept exploring and found two or three with really good information (NOT the official DVC site). Then I came across this board, read the FAQ's, lurked a while and finally called DVC.

About two weeks after sending in the paperwork, I had a business trip to Orlando and took the tour. A lot more fun when you know you already have the paperwork in process!

hi: i never took the tour. we heard about dvc in 93, but didn't buy in. we bought bwv sight unseen (talk about trust in disney!). we enjoy that location so much we added 150 points there last fall before it sold out.

I talked DH into it by telling him about the free lunch at Spoodles. He wasn't at all interested in it prior to the tour. We're military, so Shades of Green is always an option. Of course, that doesn't compare with a one-bedroom. Going home for the first time in a month.

Never technically took the "tour". Hubby and I had already decided we were going to buy into DVC and treated ourselves to a 15 year anniversary gift......4 nights in the Dolphin ( BWV was booked!) sans our DSs. Just the two of us and it was the food and wine festival as well. Plus Cirque de soleiel and we sepnt time at WL. A very grown-up WDW experience it was GREAT!

We came check in hand all paperwork filled. Our sales person made sure she was onsite the day we came down.

We had 4 days to mull it over but didnt need it!

We toured in May 2000 and almost bought points at VB. We were going to see VB, but first went to breakfast at WL and decided we would only want to buy at VWL. We visited again in Dec. 2000 and stayed off-site. Well, we went to see VWL and joined a tour of the villas with a guy who had just bought. The tour guide asked us if we were members and we told him no. Also told him about how we had visited in May, but we weren't sure if we were ready. He just came to the point and said "Well, what's stopping you now?" We went the next day and signed up. I made sure and took checks with me on this trip just in case. So far, we have stayed at VB for 3 days, VWL for 1 night, and will be at OKW in Dec. for 4 nights.

In 97 my husband signed up for a tour while I was in a store at DD. I wasn't thrilled and thought there was no way we could afford it. But after seeing OKW I was the one that had to buy. We did use part of the 30 days grace period to go home and crunch the numbers. But we were both pretty much sold the day we toured OKW.

Last Sept., we had a very short conversation with a CM at a DVC shop in the MK but weren't really convinced to part with that kind of money. But the morning we were leaving WDW for Port Canaveral, we were going from resort to resort getting pressed pennies that I was collecting. Boardwalk was the last one we went to and saw the booth in the lobby. We remembered that BW was where the tours were given and asked if they had time to see us then. We told the CM we only had a half hour before we had to leave for the ship and it was possibly the best spent 1/2 hour ever. We went home for our 1st trip to OKW 2 1/2 weeks ago and it exceeded our expectations! Even before our trip we knew we wanted to get some addons but we're waiting for BC Villas to become available.

We heard about DVC on our late '91 trip. It was a commercial on the in house TV at Caribbean Beach. We decided we couldn't afford it, so we waited. (dumb idea!) We wasted 5 more years (and a lot of money) before we purchased. We have been members for 41/2 years and could not be happier with our decision!:bounce: :)

We took the tour at VB and bought OKW through resale about 2 years later!!! We toured because we love Disney (of course) and were interested in what they had to offer.

Olaf- We are like you, Military and used Shades of Green. I talked to DH a couple times about DVC and we even watched the video. He was never very interested, so I did not pursue it very far. In Feb. of this year we were at SOG again and DH asked my mother(we have always gone with extended family and had 2 rooms)to watch the kids so we could tour DVC. We toured and signed on the dotted line before we left our guide that night! My husband was very impressed and we always loved the looks of Wilderness. We go for our first trip home in Jan '02. We have a 2 bedroom reserved and are going with our extended family again!! Can't hardly wait!

We toured the day we signed the papers as more of a confirmation we were doing the right thing. In '99 we went on our first Disney Cruise and met a DVC member one night while waiting for Disney Dreams. They had cruised on their points and were very excited about DVC. We called for the video, thought about it for a couple of months and then decided to do a short, cheap (All Stars) trip to see Main Street Electric Parade and sign up for DVC in Jan. of 2000. Called our rep, she had all the paperwork waiting for us. Took the tour and just knew it was right for us.

This past May we cruised on points and we were the ones saying how great DVC is!

Now if we could only find the money to get some VWL points before they sell out!

Wislodge, when in Jan. will you be there? We will be at WDW Jan. 19-30.
