What little we get for our money at FW.

;) Point taken. We too make the distinction between North and South! :rotfl: I was only joking though, hope it was taken in the spirit it was intended. :flower3:

LOL, not much us jersey girls are afraid of except .......

1. pumping our own gas- we just dont do it
2. our hair delflating!!:scared:
3. snakes!!!

and yes north and south jersey are definitly 2 seperate states!! most people will often confuse us south jersey people with central jersey. My boyfriend is from north jersey and boy did he not blend when he moved down here!! 100% bayonne accent!! LOL

The Fort is EAT UP with creepy crawlers,,(frogs really like the cabin bathrooms),,you most likely to find some in the cabins as quickly as in your camper.
I like to give them names and train them to do tricks.

frogs I can deal with... I love me some kermit!!!

He wants to teach them to fish but he hasn't found a rod and reel small enough!

we have stayed ther twice and never had a creepy crawly in our cabin, outside yes but not inside.....hhhmmmm..... starting to think this will be the year of the creepy crawler in the cabin! i was reading the thread about animals seen at fort wilderness... made me want to change my reservation, i found a mouse, a teeny tiny field mouse last year in our brand new grill we bought for camping. he made his own little home in it. i lifted the lid he looked at me and i ran probably as fast i had ever run in my life!!!! :rotfl:

Funny story. The first time I stayed in the cabins was back in November 2002 when my husband had to go on a business trip, so I talked my mom into coming to WDW with me. One of my mom's big concerns was the weather. She doesn't tolerate heat very well, and I assured her this was a great time to visit. Little did I know WDW would be experiencing abnormally high temps, in the 90's, that week. First strike against me.

I wanted to stay at the VWL, but they only had the last 2 nights of our 4 night trip available, but the cabins were available the first 2 nights, so not minding a split trip, and always wanting to stay at the cabins, I took it.

The first night we were there I slept in the bedroom and my mom in the Murphy bed in the living room. I kept hearing this chirping sound all night, but thought it was coming from outside. The next morning, my mom goes into the bedroom to get dressed, as her suitcase was in there, opened on the floor, when I hear her start screaming. A frog jumped out of her suitcase! It was the cutest thing, one of those little ones with the sticky pads, and he was now hanging on to the bureau. I was like, "how the heck am I going to catch this thing"?

I grabbed the trash can liner from the kitchen, and then surrounded the froggie with the opening of the bag, and he jumped right in, and then out the door he went! Mom wasn't very happy about the frog in her suitcase. I thought it was hilarious.:lmao: Strike two.

Our second adventure was me driving the golf cart. After arriving at the cabin, I settled my mom in the cabin, and the nice castmember who had driven us to our cabin dropped me off at the golf cart rental window. I had never driven one before, and thought I would get a lesson from the FW castmember. Uh, no, he just handed me the keys, and pointed to which cart was mine!:scared1: There was a young couple with a baby in a stroller right next to the golf carts, and I strongly suggested they move away from the area while I figured out how that thing worked.

It took me a little while to get the hang of it, and I was slightly nervous when I realized I had to drive on the same roads with the buses and cars. I thought I had it down pretty well though by the time I got back to the cabin. We relaxed for a little bit, then got ready to head off to the MK. My mom seemed kind of leery about me driving her in this thing, but, she got in. I'm driving along, enjoying my adventure, and I look over at my mom to see she is holding on for dear life. I might have taken a few curves a little sharply, LOL. :blush:Once we got to the parking lot I couldn't find an open outlet to plug the cart in. I was very nervous that we would come back to a dead battery, and I kept asking other guests in the area if they thought we'd be okay. They assured me we would, so we got on the boat, and off we went to the MK. We had a great time as we walked around, ate, had fun, watched the parade, & then took the boat back to FW. Thankfully our golf cart was still alive, but somehow I got turned around exiting the parking lot and got lost! Strike three. We were driving through the campsites, having no idea where to turn. It was pretty late and very dark, and my mom kept saying we were going to be abducted. I was like, "mom, we are in WDW, we are not going to be abducted"!

I finally saw a cart with two gentlemen driving down the road up ahead and I just followed them, although my mom didn't want me to. She swore something would happen to us. She really is a city girl, born and raised in Philadelphia, and didn't move to SJ until her 30's, on insistence by my dad, which by the way, 45 years later she still complains about. Somehow we ended up back at our cabin. My mom vowed to never go to WDW with me alone anymore, and to never, ever stay at FW again.:confused3

Thought ya said your were only afraid of gas, deflated hair and snakes! :rotfl: Just kidding.

In SC:

1. We pump our own gas, ONLY because we have to.
2. The humidity automatically deflates our hair.
3. Well.....I don't like snakes either!!!!!! :lmao:

Mom & I November 2002

funny story! i have never worried about critters so no i will be on the look out!!:cool2: we took my mom and dad in 2006 to the cabins and it was not for them. they are older and hotel people only!! it was too much work for them!!!

With our children grown, it's just the two of us. We used to drive (20 hrs) and tow our camper to stay at Ft. Wilderness. Given the rising campsite prices, rising gasoline prices, etc. .... we are now flying and staying at value resorts. About the same price even with a rental car than it was at the campground.

I really miss the campground; however, the economics point us at the other resorts.

Now if you had a larger family, it might be worth it as the room sizes are limited to 4-5 people.

I try to get over to the Fort every visit to walk around though. We'll be back someday, but right now it doesn't make economic sense.

Have to agree. With just DH and I it makes no sense to bring our 5er and stay at the fort. Yes, we will miss it because that's where we've always stayed, but with DH retiring we have to look at the economic thing - so it comes down to staying value or not coming at all and I don't think I could stand never coming to DW again. There are plenty of other RV resorts that we stay at that are much cheaper than the fort so our camping will just go in other directions (Cherry Hill RV Resort for one when we go to DC).

$100+ a night for a concrete slab, plug, water and hole for your turds.... yeah, that's reasonable.

Flame suit on...

A campsite large enough to park our MH and DD's car when she, hubby, 2 boys, one girl (until they return from China with DGD #2) arrive. Also a grill and a bench where we can sit and enjoy a meal or 2. Also an area where our DGC can play under trees right next to the MH.

We can sleep in our own bed, shower in our own shower, take care of #1 and #2 in our own bathroom, relax in our own living area, I can cook in my own complete kitchen and we can eat at our own dinning table. We are also able to relax in our own lounge chairs under our own awning. Wash/dry a weeks load of clothing at a reasonable price within walking distance from our site.

We can walk or bike ride for miles while enjoying the foliage and wild animals. We can take our fishing equipment, walk or bike ride a short distance and go fishing. We can enjoy a campfire, and an opportunity to use that fire to create wonderful treats, visit with a couple of Chipmunks and watch a movie all a short distance from our site. We can hop on a boat for a wonderful journey to MK or two other resorts. Hop on a horse only a short distance from the site or go for a hay ride or carriage ride a short distance from our site. Enjoy an entertainment show and have a dinner at the same time only a short distance from our site. Walk to a beach and watch fireworks or a magical illuminated boat parade. See a parade of carts dressed up or light displays that dazzle the eyes. We can even bring DW's Persian along so he doesn't feel abandoned.

Probably forgot some things since I am on the downward slope of life.

Sure doesn't seem like we get our money's worth staying at FW compared to other WDW Resorts so I guess they really should lower the rates. Yup, second class guests we are.

You missed where mskermit is from. She is from SOUTH Jersey. Believe me, we make the distinction. There is a difference. ;)

South Jersey isn't really part of Dirty Jerzy......

You have a knack for boiling things down to the basics.
Do people really pay $100+ a night?
I don't care what a camp ground has, I can't see paying that much.

Sorry, that's the bean counter in me, lol.....

Holidays and peak times, it's like $110 or so I believe.

south jersey is no way part of dirty jersey!! the air down here is clean and we dont pay tolls to drive on our roads!! LOL my boyfriend is from bayonne and the first time i drove to North jersey i thought i left the state!!!:scared1:

DW and I have paid $250 for a night at an airport hotel since our flight arrived extremely late after delays and I did not want to drive 3+ hours home because of the safety factor.

At FW when the rates are at maximum I really don't care what they are if DW wants to go. As I stated in my opening post, I will have OUR HOUSE with us along with DW's Persian and DD and family will visit us. I do not look at it as a slab of concrete in a camp ground simply because it is an on-sight stay at Disney with all the amenities of our house plus WDW at our feet. The comparison for me is a stay in a 1 bedroom at a DVC Resort and if I did't use points it would be more $$$$$ than FW plus no cat.

You're definately in a better financial position than some of us.
So, you have or would pay over $100/night at the Fort?
You said you bring your house with you. Is it a MH and would you like to describe it?
It's always fun to hear people describe their MHs.

I put DW's safety before my own so it was a no brainer to hole up even though we did not want to spend the $$$.

Our MH is a pretty old looking '94 cheapo Fleetwood without slides or even jacks. There are certain resorts that have a 10 year old limit for staying in them and let me tell you that with the way our's looks, previous owner neglect, I can't blame them for having that rule.

I am so cheap that I have been accused of being able to pinch a penny after picking it up from the street and getting 2 cents from it.

I had to read this twice! I thought you meant you took the cart all the way to the Magic Kingdom parking lot...over at TTC! :rotfl2:

zzzzzzzzzzzzz Listen to me, I think I'm important. And it is on site, not sight...... I guess they don't give any sort of tests to be a disney lackey.
