What little we get for our money at FW.

. . .and I think your "what little we get for our money" is actually true. For our family of five to enjoy this entertainment it costs $204.95 (which I don't think includes tax or tip.) Next year when my twins turn 10 it will cost $254.95. That's 3 nights lodging, based on what we paid for our campsite, for one meal. We paid $120. just to eat at Trails' End buffet and make our own entertainment. I don't see the food choices at FW as value for our money.

I cannot disagree that the Hoop Dee Doo Review and Trail's End are expensive, but there is one food choice at the Fort that is a good deal (by Disney standards). I have a family of five, and the Giddyap and Go chicken dinner feeds us all for less than $30:

I am afraid every time I visit that someone is going to yank this deal, too.

But so far, it's still available, and the best food deal in all of WDW.

The Hoop Dee Doo Revue is expensive, but it's one of my favorite things at all of WDW. When we were there last month, we were celebrating my b-day on the day we went to HDDR - which was also the first night of our stay. As a gift from the cast, my son was the "Ranger" selected for the finale

Don't tell anyone I told you, but I love HDDR so much, I talked the wife into scooping up a cancellation at the end of the trip (read - twice in one week)

I would also love to be at the Fort vs the value resort ... however, part of the costs are those for the wear and tear on my camper (1,200 miles each way) and my tow vehicle. Add to that the additional time it takes to drive down and the hotel room each way.

So, we have been staying at the values with free dining the last two years and again in September. Free dining is not available at the campgroud (except cabins). So, while I miss the Fort, it is much more economical and much less hassle, etc to take advantage of the current offers that are out there for the other resorts at WDW.

You are absolutely right. IF you are only looking at economics. However, I do both types of trips (Camping at the Fort, and staying at Values or Mods) and I can tell you, I FEEL so much more like I'm on vacation and at HOME when staying at the Fort. There are some things that just can't be decided by economics.

The best thing about the Fort is the FIENDS!!!!

The pizza is good too and it's a large pizza so it's no more expensive than anywhere else. When we stayed in December we wanted to order a pizza and it was about 1 minutes before closing. I know, stupid on our part. Woud you believe, they actually cooked a pizza for us.

I love going to bed at night and waking up to the sunshine in the morning. Staying at a hotel, the blinds are pulled shut, and I waste half the morning trying to wake up because it's too dark in the room.
Hotel rooms just don't make you feel at home.

After out last trip in March, we make it a point to wander over to the Wilderness lodge and eat one night at the Roaring Fork counter service. Yeah, it's a bit pricey for counter service but was isn't at Disney. The food was actually really good and the kids had a ton of variety to choose from. The desserts were also huge and great. That is what they need to model at the Fort.

staying at the fort is a preference for our family! being a family with 2 young children we've been to disney world about 12 times in the past 2 years (we only live 3 hours away) after spending THOUSANDS of dollars in hotels and multiple visits to wilderness lodge, beach club, yacht club, coronado springs, animal kingdom lodge, boardwalk inn.. we were asked to accompany my father in his airstream to go camping at fort wilderness. WE HAD A TON OF FUN! so much fun that we went out and bought a pop up camper 2 months ago! we've already taken it to FW at the beginning of the month to break it in~ not only does the fort hold all the disney magic that the other hotels do (yeah the pool isn't as fancy..but those updates are not too shabby!!) we find it's more relaxing and a vacation in itself staying here.

just b/c we're camping does not make us second rate citizens!

they used to back when i stayed as a teenager in 1995...i remember going camping for my friends 16th birthday..parents got us a cart and we drove the thing over to the "new" wilderness lodge and went looking to talk to boys oh the days.. i wonder why they stopped letting that happen? what's the harm in driving the cart over there?

The Fort is EAT UP with creepy crawlers,,(frogs really like the cabin bathrooms),,you most likely to find some in the cabins as quickly as in your camper.
I like to give them names and train them to do tricks.
