Flame suit on...

A campsite large enough to park our MH and DD's car when she, hubby, 2 boys, one girl (until they return from China with DGD #2) arrive. Also a grill and a bench where we can sit and enjoy a meal or 2. Also an area where our DGC can play under trees right next to the MH.

We can sleep in our own bed, shower in our own shower, take care of #1 and #2 in our own bathroom, relax in our own living area, I can cook in my own complete kitchen and we can eat at our own dinning table. We are also able to relax in our own lounge chairs under our own awning. Wash/dry a weeks load of clothing at a reasonable price within walking distance from our site.

We can walk or bike ride for miles while enjoying the foliage and wild animals. We can take our fishing equipment, walk or bike ride a short distance and go fishing. We can enjoy a campfire, and an opportunity to use that fire to create wonderful treats, visit with a couple of Chipmunks and watch a movie all a short distance from our site. We can hop on a boat for a wonderful journey to MK or two other resorts. Hop on a horse only a short distance from the site or go for a hay ride or carriage ride a short distance from our site. Enjoy an entertainment show and have a dinner at the same time only a short distance from our site. Walk to a beach and watch fireworks or a magical illuminated boat parade. See a parade of carts dressed up or light displays that dazzle the eyes. We can even bring DW's Persian along so he doesn't feel abandoned.

Probably forgot some things since I am on the downward slope of life.

Sure doesn't seem like we get our money's worth staying at FW compared to other WDW Resorts so I guess they really should lower the rates. Yup, second class guests we are.

OP, you are not a second class citizen, you are an Adventurer and darn proud of it:teleport: and in my book there is nothing wrong with that!

We get trails and trails to ride golf carts around to go "looping", we have lots of outdoor space to share with friends and have awesome GGs.

(Try and set up a couple of awnings at a public space at one of the resorts and have 30 of your closest friends come over and drink and cook all evening). Bet it won't work!!!

The best thing about the Fort is the FIENDS!!!!

John - Have you ever been to and priced out the KOA on 192E? It's probably the suckiest campground on the face of the earth and they charge as much or more than the Fort. Of course - you do have the option to ride your golf cart around and around the Sam's parking lot right next door. :rotfl2: If you time it right, you can go into Sam's and eat enough free samples to have a decent lunch or dinner!

Yeah - there are times I complain about the pricing, but I keep coming back because IMHO there is no place else like FtW. Also like Carol said - where else can you have 30-40 people gathered in one place for a GG?

You can also get FWGuy to mix you a Kungaloosh if you happen to be there when he is.

say what?!?!?:confused3

Facetious = sarcastic

Guys, I really think he is using a play on words because people often complain about being treated like second class guests because we stay at the Fort. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounded to me like he was listing out all the reasons the Fort is well worth the price we pay and his title was being sarcastic.

With our children grown, it's just the two of us. We used to drive (20 hrs) and tow our camper to stay at Ft. Wilderness. Given the rising campsite prices, rising gasoline prices, etc. .... we are now flying and staying at value resorts. About the same price even with a rental car than it was at the campground.

I really miss the campground; however, the economics point us at the other resorts.

Now if you had a larger family, it might be worth it as the room sizes are limited to 4-5 people.

I try to get over to the Fort every visit to walk around though. We'll be back someday, but right now it doesn't make economic sense.

You are absolutely right. IF you are only looking at economics. However, I do both types of trips (Camping at the Fort, and staying at Values or Mods) and I can tell you, I FEEL so much more like I'm on vacation and at HOME when staying at the Fort. There are some things that just can't be decided by economics.

We can afford to got to Disney World every year because we stay at The Fort, not that I want to stay any place else. We drive 1000 miles each way and we only eat out once. I cook and freeze most of the food ahead of time. When at The Fort, it really does feel like a vacation. No alarms are set and we are only on our own schedule. We are also down to just the 2 of us and it is the most relaxing we have together. Also, in Maryland, everything is expensive and we can go to The Fort for 2 weeks, including gas, cheaper than going to Ocean City. And if it rains at the ocean, what are you going to do. So, even though costs are going up, it is still a good value.:hmghost:

I was enjoying your facetiousness and nodding in agreement, although some doesn't apply to tent camping. I was also thinking about the two birds that just walked through our campsite one morning and the squirrel we enjoyed watching clean up the food bits our neighbors left on their picnic table -- can't see that at the values. But then I got to this part:

Enjoy an entertainment show and have a dinner at the same time only a short distance from our site.

and I think your "what little we get for our money" is actually true. For our family of five to enjoy this entertainment it costs $204.95 (which I don't think includes tax or tip.) Next year when my twins turn 10 it will cost $254.95. That's 3 nights lodging, based on what we paid for our campsite, for one meal. We paid $120. just to eat at Trails' End buffet and make our own entertainment. I don't see the food choices at FW as value for our money.

Good point.

I tried a value resort once and I was unhappy the whole trip never again. The Fort is a good value as long as you don't count the money you spend on your trailer/truck/rv/golf cart/and up keep into the mix. If I figured what I spend on trailer and truck notes plus the fuel to pull the trailer and what I have spent on golf carts I could stay at a delux for the same price. But the fact is I love the Fort and I think we all do. Just wish they would let me drive my cart to the Lodge.
(I don't think that is asking for to much)
