What lessons did your parents teach, that are always with you?

Every dog has its day.

Life isn't always fair, so get used to it.

People who are not related to you by blood can be better "family" than people who are!

"A car is a two ton weapon. You can kill someone with it, just like if you shot them with a gun".

Nobody's perfect.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Never soil your reputation.

This too shall pass.

Blood is thicker than water.

If you wait to send flowers to someone's funeral, you've waited too long.

From my mom: a girl always needs good secretarial skills.:o

Never ask someone to do for you what you can do for yourself.

From my dad: always be 1st, if you can't be first then be 2nd, if you can't be 2nd then you had better be 3rd. (my dad was a competitive businessman)

Never do anything to tarnish your good name and character.

Telling the truth may get me in trouble, but not as much trouble as telling a lie.

Put 100% into anything we do and we can do anything.

My mom taught me always have respect and pride in myself. She always said women should dress appropriately, ie don't dress like a street walker. If you dress like that you will have that reputation even if it's not true.

Always wear something nice to an interview. Doesn't matter if you're applying for a job to pick up trash off the side of the road, you dress for success.

Women don't need men to get by. We are capable of taking care of ourselves.

Family is not determined by blood. Any group of people that love and care for each other are a family.

Oh, there are sooo many. My mom taught me by example that humor can get you through so much...we manage to find something funny in the most trying circumstances. They both taught me to be responsible with a good work ethic...and to always SHARE...even if you don't have much. They also taught me it is important to THINK FOR YOURSELF and believe in yourself. My mother has been through a lot of serious health problems but she has not let it get her down...she does not feel sorry for herself or whine "Why me?" she just handles it the best she can and tries to make her life as satisfying as possible.

From my mom:

Sit up straight and look people in the eye.

Don't end a sentence with a preposition.

Use good grammar. It'll get you far in the world.

The things you do come back to you.

From my dad:

Well, my dad was a sailor in WWII. He taught me creative use of the English language.....so to speak

From my Dad.... never follow traffic ( esp. big trucks) through an intersection, untill you make sure the light is still green.
Dad: Measure twice, cut once
Dad : Girls can do anything they set their mind to do.

this is cheesy, but... :)

on the first day of school (and even when he dropped me off at college) my dad always said:

work hard, have fun, and learn new things.

it's something i try to keep in mind every day. :sunny:

From my dad -- "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." He liked to tell me that because I've always been on the short side.

Public Restrooms=flush first, then wipe & line the seat prior to sitting down...

"Do you want it or do you need it?"

That just about covers everything from toys to big fancy cars and homes. Do I want the expensive sports car - sure. Do I need the expensive sports car - well, no and I don't need the expensive payments either.

It sets your priorities quickly when you ask yourself that question.

From Mom: I think about these two things she always said (and still says) to me at least a couple times a week.

Never do something once you don't want to keep doing the rest of your life.

Actions speak louder than words.

From Dad: doing it the teacher's way isn't always the best way.

Never, EVER buy a brand-name drug if there's a generic one available (pharmacist! :teeth: )

And the most important thing my parents taught me is that I can be and do anything I want to be and do, no matter who tells me I can't. ::yes::

From my dad:
- There's no place like home.
- Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. (He's a politician, so he knows all about this.)
- Never throw the first swing, but don't be afraid to throw the second.

From my mom:
- You can't buy class.
- You're better off with a hardworking, poor man than a rich, lazy one.
- Love yourself, first and foremost.
- A woman can never have too many shoes. :)

The number one rule that I try to live by still is to be where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there. And if you can't be there, then call and let someone know why!

This is a valuable one! ;)

Mom:
1. Try lots of new things. Take lessons in anything you can. Never be a fuddy-duddy.
2. Put yourself in good environments. No good is going to come of you hanging out with some loser named Spike in a slimy bar.
3. Whatever you do, try not to get caught.
4. Never put it in writing if you can avoid it.
5. Quitting is not an option, ever.

Got to love that Mom!
