DS loves Legos and has this on his Christmas list. When asking him to name a set that he would like, he can't name just one -- he names at least 20! We have always bought Lego City, but maybe we should move to a different series or perhaps find some that are a little more challenging. He is not into Harry Potter so that rules that out. He doesn't have any Star Wars, but he has never seen any of the movies so I don't know how into the theme he would be. He has asked for the White House and the airport. I would like to get a set that is fairly large. Do you have any suggestions?

My DS9 loves Star Wars, Atlantis, Hero Factory and Space Police Legos. He loves them all!

My son loves them all and we build "worlds" and mix them all up. One end of the dining room table will be water with all his pirates and Atlantis and other ships and then he has land with Lego city etc. and finally at the other end of the table is outerspace with Star Wars and Space Police.

You might also look at the new Lego games - they look like fun!

As an adult who loves Star Wars like crazy and buys her own Star Wars Legos on occasion when budget allows it, I say your DS is missing out. The sets are fantastic and I thought some of them were quite tricky to build, so if some of the other sets are getting too easy for him, that's something to think about. Plus the video game is one of my favorites.

But he has to see and be in love with the movies first. Maybe you can rent them and see how the reaction is? Please start him on the original trilogy... besides the fact that the movies are about 1000% better, the plot is way easier for a 9 year old. And space battles + good versus evil are way better than lots of romance and political intrigue... particularly for those who still go "eww" at the "kissing parts".:thumbsup2

What other types of themes is he asking your for?

My DS is all about star wars, and now harry potter too. He does have some castle, space police, city, agents and mars mission. They don't make mars mission anymore, or agents. He would still buy more agents stuff if they offered it. That was a great theme.

For city, does your son have the police headquarters? My DS has that one (an older version) and that is a great set. The one city set my DS has mentioned this year is the airplane and limo set. He thinks that is very cool. The airport looks great too.

I would try to get sets that he has specifially asked for, or sets from themes he has asked for. Legos are too expensive to just guess at something he may like. My DS makes a list and then puts smiley faces next to his very top choices and stars next to his second choices and circles next to his third choices (this is his system:)) But it really does help me to decide which sets are the ones I really want to buy.

My son will be 9 in a month and he loves all Lego sets. We bought him Harry Potter sets for Christmas/Birthday this year in addition to a few Star Wars sets. The Knight's Kingdom sets are nice. The only downside I have with the Star Wars ships is that they don't stay together all that well.

No he doesn't have the police headquarters. I've looked at that one and thought he would like it. He also has the airplane/limo on his list. He has a lot of the construction-theme sets and most of the coast guard sets, in addition to several other pieces from the Lego City. I am anal and keep them in their original box and every now and then I go through all the sets and see what pieces are missing and place an order through Lego.com to get the missing pieces.

Can anybody give a review on the new Lego games?

ETA: I forgot that he also has a lot of the Power Miner sets.

Last year, I bought my son the Lego Advent Calendar. I had to give it to him on December 1, so that he could open one window every day, but he LOVE IT. All my nephews were so jealous.

We mostly have Star Wars legos but my ds is obsessed with SWs. This year he has asked for some Atlantis sets too.

I'm getting my almost 9 y.o. son Harry Potter legos this year since he is currently reading the books. The past two years, he was into Indiana Jones so we got him those sets, intermingled with the Star Wars, which he loves. He has the City police station, which was also enjoyed.

DS7 has tons of legos. What about a train? My son loves his Christmas one and has one other. This year my parents are getting him the Fire Brigade (he has the regular fire station) and I am getting the Emporium with swagbucks. We already have the cafe and the hotel. They take him longer to build then the normal ones, although he doesn't find them hard.

My favorites are the city ones and I also like the creator houses, they go well in my city! He loves all Star Wars, Castles, Atlantis, Power Miners, actually he loves them all!

We just got the new city house. What about the bakery and last years toy shop? I love the Christmas themed ones too! Okay, so maybe i LOVE legos as much my son does! LOL!

we got him the latest christmas set to give him on his bday later this month. We bought the toy shop last year. As far as christmas goes- Im going to buy him the lego castle and I bought a star wars ARF fighter from costco for him. Thats about it for legos this year..

DS has Pirate Code and Magikus. He says he likes Pirate Code better because he has fun guessing the codes. He also really wants the Minotaurus, Ramses Pyramid, and the Harry Potter game. He is almost 8.

It's expensive but the new London Tower Bridge is really cool. My son likes that one and he wants the Winter Bakery because he got the Winter Toy Store last year.

I am the mom of two "girly" type girls who LOVE legos. As you can imagine, most of the sets do not appeal to them AT ALL!! It really is a shame that they do not have some different themes. My girls also do not care much for Harry Potter but I purchased a HP set for them for XMAS. The one I got (? the burrow, I think?) has 5 or 6 people which is always something my girls want. Plus they will take it all apart and use pieces as they see fit. I purchased an Atlantis set for dd11 on her bday a few months ago and she just LOVED it!! I just get things that are a good deal and go with them. When I can afford to choose (instead of going with a deal) I pick the houses. They would love the airport but that is a bit much for me. I was too late to get the winter toy shop last year but wish that I had. I often purchase (at the stores or online) a bunch of single pieces (the buckets at the stores) and let them do their own thing with them.

I am only buying Harry Potter . He just loaded up on Atlantis and Space Police in Aug for his birthday .

My DS who is 9 (will turn 10 next month) loves the pirate theme sets, and the harry potter sets. He will be getting the Harry potter castle and Hagrids hut from his Grandmas.

My DS who is 8 (will turn 9 next month) is getting the pirate set Brickbeads bounty and the Lego Kingdoms castle.

My DS 8 asked for so many sets I couldn't count. I asked him what is the one thing he wants most for Christmas. He said a puppy. After I stopped laughing, I asked what do you want most that isn't living he said Brickbeards bounty with the lego kingdom castle as #2.

They have the winter toy shop again this year if that is in the budget.

I have never seen them sell out of a lego and then bring it back the next year. It is one of the cutest legos I have ever seen although a bit on the pricey side. We have the Christmas train and I put them all under the tree. I can't wait to give DS the bakery. I'll probably give it to him after Thanksgiving dinner.
