What kind of wine for someone who doens't like wine?

One of my friends recently asked me this (who is a big, hands on, firefighter) and I gave him some of my Pinot Noir. He really liked it, and this is coming from a guy who normally drinks nothing but beer & whiskey.

I would also go with a German Reisling. Delicious!

Another one I really love is called Big Apple Wine, made by Wolffer Estates. It is from a winery here on Long Island. It tastes like you are biting into a nice juicy apple. Here is the bottle - I highly recommend it!

Definitely try a Moscato. My fave brand is Bricco Riella.

This and the post last night about wine are KILLING ME. I would DIE for a glass of wine right now ... just before bed so that I can get a good nights sleep because my DS has been keeping me up all night long the last few nights.

That being said, I don't care for the dry whites or reds at all. I like Reisling the best, Moscato D'Asti is a nice sweet wine and White Zin works in a pinch.

I feel like an alcoholic with the amount I have MISSED wine this pregnancy. Never drank much to begin with but enjoyed a glass a few nights a week while making dinner after a particularly rough day!

... but prefer to drink wine when I do drink as I don't get hangovers...

I stick with just white wines and I've never gotten a hangover (and I get hangovers way too easily :headache:). I get hangovers from red wine, beer, and all mixed drinks.

Yep. My mom actually encouraged me to drink ONLY red wines, if I "had to" drink in college. Simply because of the hangover factor, and maybe I would not feel the urge to continue to drink. :)

I see others have already mentioned the reislings and the gerwurtz-etcetcs, so that's all I have. :goodvibes

I would also suggest a Moscato D'Asti, I would never drink wine before I found this kind. Yummmy.

I'm a dry wine lover, but like a PP, I was going to suggest Reisling. It's a nice, crisp, sweeter white. Not quite as sweet as white zinfandel....:scared:

Same recommendations as everyone else

Rieslings
Gewürtztraminers
Muscat/Moscatos

You might like Ice Wine.

I like some Pinot Gris and Chenin Blanc.

Pinot Noir is really the only red that is mild enough for me.

What do you not like about the wines you have tasted?

I prefer dry wines and mildly sweet wines and wines that are less dense. I cannot stand most reds b/c I feel I have to chew it. But the Shiraz is doable.

Many labels list what the wine will taste like. "Hints of melon" that kind of thing. Those aren't added, but it is how the wine comes across.

But if you just don't like grapes--then probably not much out there to entice you.

I prefer a white--chardonnay and ...gosh, can't remember the other one. No wine in 6 months. Riesling I believe.

At least you are close to your next glass. I've got 3 months to go.:rotfl:

I'm thinking that "Mommy's Time Out"--a blend of what, I forget but it is yumy!

And yes--i too feel like a lusch alcoholic. I sniffed beer through my morning sickness (seriously helped to stave off an episode).

I'm negotiating my other half glass of wine for SIL's wedding. Hubby forgets our 1 glass agreement. I got only a half glass on christmas Eve and I'm do another.

LOL. DW was the same way. She's not a big drinker, but likes an occasional glass of wine or fuzzy navel or lemon drop.
It must be one of those things where we always want something more if we know we can't have it. :)

Because of the other ingredients and different people's sensitivity to them, I could see getting hangovers from red wine and beer more than other drinks.

But if you get hangovers from all mixed drinks, it's probably because you end up drinking more than when you're drinking wine. Alcohol is about the only substance that is in ALL mixed drinks.

I've been getting more and more into red wines lately, but last time I had a migraine, it was the day after I had a couple glasses of Chianti. So I'm afraid to drink a red again, in case it turns out to be one of my triggers. Of course, I also had bacon for breakfast that morning, and I know that cured meats can be a trigger because of the nitrates. I'd rather give up bacon than red wine. :)

I'm not a huge wine drinker, but I like Martini and Rossi Asti Spumante and Bolla Soave. The Bolla is pretty cheap, but I like it.

omg thank you to everyone who recommended the moscato, DH picked some up today and we both love it! I'm not a drinker at all, I literally have a glass of sparkling wine maybe 4x...a year, I just never got into anything that tasted good. I love the moscato, very smooth, just the right amount of sweetness and it was priced right ($12)

I am amazed at all of you that can drink sweet wines with no hangover. One glass of a sweet wine and I am headache city. Good on you.

I stick to reds. Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Malbec.
