05 Nissan Altima

I previously drove a 92 Mazda MX-3 (I miss my little red rocket)

The Altima is great on gas mileage . . .I only fill it up 2 times a month at 35 each time. It is a smooth ride, really smooth, sometimes you don't realize how fast you are actually going . . .

What I don't like . . .I feel OLD driving it . . .I shoulda went with the Liberty or something sporty, wish I did . . .Backing up is a pain because you don't realize how large your rear is . . .

DH has an 05 Grand Cherokee - it is a nice vehicle, way too big for me to drive, gets around 22 mpg, he's probably going to look to downgrade because there aren't too many times all four of us go anywhere together . . .

We have 2 vehicles we really love, but for different reasons.

In terms of gas milage, nothing beats our 03 Jetta TDI. We get approx 49 miles per gallon. It is a real money saver, considering my husband drives 80 miles a day!

I drive an '02 Land Rover Discovery. A gas-guzzler for sure, but it is awesome when we go camping. It can go anywhere....although, truthfully, we don't take it many places these days. Gas is just too expensive. Still, it's cheaper than a car payment (I drive very little, so I don't have to fill up very often) AND it is paid for!

We had a Honda Civic before the Jetta and loved it. Drove it, literally, to death!

My Step Mom had died in Nov.99'. My Dad was itching to get rid of her 93 Mercedes Turbo Diesel-he wanted CUPHOLDERS!

We were turning in our Ford Windstar because of impending LARGE issues. I took the 93' with 32,000 miles on her (in 7 years).

It's 2007 and I am at 150,000 miles.
I get 34-37 MPG.
I am in a heavy vehicle that I am safe in-even when a truck plowed into the back of me!

We liked it so much we found a 95' Diesel in 2001 and my hubby drives that one 65 miles or so a day. His tank has a range of about 700 miles! That has cruised to OKW from Ohio and Maryland!

It is not a status thing to drive matching Mercedes....in fact they are both owned free and clear and practical for our use. A good, honest mechanic is a must-I have one.

Our ownership costs have been on par with the maintenance we had on our Ford Windstar and Buick Custom. Sometimes even better.

Our 22 yr old's first diesel car was "born" the same year he was. After an accident (that he walked away from) he is on his second Diesel.....they get in your blood.

In the beginning of our marriage we had an 81 Honda Civic that we gave away at 200,000 miles (10 yrs old). A friend's son had car problems and we sold it for $500. He had it for another couple years!

I am looking for bio-diesel in Maryland now.

I know you asked for vehicles we loved...but I feel almost obligated to warn you about my vehicle.


Saturn Relay and I like..absolutely...NOTHING!
I wouldn't get another one or any of the other ones that are the same except for the name. (Chevy and Pontiac).

Let's see--ours is a 2005. We got it new to us in Oct 2005 (it had 5K miles and was a corporate vehicle). Either those corporate folks can do a lot of crazy things in 5000 miles to mess up the van...Or the van just stinks!

January of 2006 I had a battery replaced and then when the same thing was happening, they discovered the altenator was bad and had to be replaced.

We are on our 3rd DVD system--and possibly need a 4th but not sure. (they all break the same way--just arbitrarily fast forwarding through movies . Noone presses buttons--it just skips skips and then zips on through.)

The ABS/traction lights keep coming on. First happened in June of 2006. Whatever was causing it was fixed once. Then it happened again and the dealer found something loose with that part and tightened it..now it is happening...AGAIN!

The driver's side sliding door has a problem. The lock cannot be remotely unlocked..not with the remote, not with the lock switch in the driver's door--not with anything. I have to lock it and unlock it by hand. This started happening a while ago--and they told me to wipe the sensors. The car was only a year old--is Saturn kidding me???

When they rotated the tires on a regular service...the front left tire keeps making this thud sound.

I would love to get all this fixed--but I am really tired of visiting Saturn so often for these goofy problems.

Other things have popped up--but I am losing track.

Thankfully we bought the warranty to 100,000. Unfortunately...that means I have 65,000 more miles to drive before I can get rid of this vehicle that SHOULD be a lemon, but is not according to the laws of our state. (previously titled vehicle).


So don't buy the Saturn Relay. (or any Saturn for that matter as I have encountered nothing but idiots in the service department)

The last car I loved was my Honda Civic. But she is long gone and probably behaving quite nicely for whoever owns her.

I drive an '02 Subaru Impreza Wagon. It gets pretty good mileage, around 30 mpg, so I fill up about every week and a half to two weeks (I have a 24 mile round trip commute to work, and do a lot of other driving).

Although it's called a "wagon" it's really a hatchback. It originally caught my eye because it looks like a stretched out Mini Cooper. It has tons of room in the back, which is good and bad, because it gives me a place to stow lots of junk that I really ought to clean out. Every seat is roomy (a real consideration since I'm 5'9" and DH is over 6 feet) and very comfortable. From the outside, however, it's nice and compact and I can get it into just about any parking spot I want!

It's got good get up and go, which is fun, but has gotten me in trouble a couple of times with State Troopers. Oops.

I loooove my car, and I recommend them to people all the time.

Not sure if it is the current version of your car, but I recently rented a Subaru Tribeca on a business trip. It was a very impressive vehicle all around. I had never heard of it. Just a very solid well built car/van/SUV/crossover uh what the heck is it? LOL

Same here and agree with all you say. DW drives the Durango. She won't let me near it.

I drive a Dodge Magnum. It is the coolest station wagon I have ever seen (well, as cool as a station wagon ever could be I suppose). It hauls butt too (Ka-chow)! Mileage is a joke though. Oh well.

2004 Chevy Tahoe - and I LOVE IT....it is the vehicle that I use for Disney trips - smooth ride, roomy, comfortable and very dependable so far....41000 miles with many more to go I hope!! Just back and forth to work I drive a 2001 Chevy Cavalier...great gas mileage and also very dependable!!

1999 Chevy Malibu. I love the huge trunk and the fact that the back seat can lay down so when I buy something big and long at Home Depot I just fold the seat back down and push it on through.

I've seen the Tribecas and like the look of them! My car is definitely a car (though it's a tough little cookie in bad weather -- it has All Wheel Drive, which I adore in the snow!), while the Tribeca is more of an SUV. This is what mine looks like, same color and all:

I drive a 2001 Cadillac DeVille. It's a comfortable and safe car. It has a very smooth ride. I love the heated seats, because they heat up long before the actual heat in the car does on those cold winter mornings. My husband has the same make and model but a different year and his doesn't compare to mine in comfort and the way the car drives. I don't look forward to the day when I may have to give it up. I only have about 30,000 miles on it, so I'm hoping it will last for a very long time to come.

I got a Prius just before the summer. Before that I had a Sequoia, before that a Suburban. 18 years of big trucks, I was worried about going to something small. I love the Prius! I really haven't missed my big trucks at all. It handles nicely, the trunk/hatchback handles my huge Costco runs , and I love the gas mileage.

The jury is still out on how it will handle in the winter during icy, snowy weather.

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, and my DH has an Expedition.

I love my Jeep. You wouldn't know its almost 10 years old. The few times I have had it in for repair have been a minimal cost. The resale value is still good. I love my Jeep.

We have a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. We love it. It's loaded with leather, heated front and middle row seats, DVD player, 5 disc changer in the dash plus an additional one in the stereo, navigation system, auto climate control etc. We really like it. We bought it almost two years ago used from Carmax for a great price. It has middle row bucket seats and two third row seats. The third row drops down very easily. We hardly ever have it up.

Now depending on your family size I may not recommend the vehicle. We have one DS in a carseat. It works great for us because you can life the other seat to get to the third row if you need to. Once we have another child we will be upgrading the vehicle because with two carseats in the middle row you can't get to the back row without removing a seat.

The trunk space is great, especially when the third row is down. We can fit a full size stroller, DH's golf clubs, and a few suitcases back there. When the third row is up the trunk is big enough for a good sized umbrella stroller and groceries.

Once we move from this vehicle, DH is thinking about getting another Pacifica for his work car and we want to up grade to the Chrysler Aspen for our family car.

Good Luck. It's always fun to car shop, even though it can be stressful.

ETA: The Pacifica rides like a dream. It was one of the first joint vehicles with Mercedes so it has a lot of that in it's styling. The interior controls were copied from Mercedes. The chasis is that of (I think) the Mercedes E Class. If not E then some other class! It rides like being on a cloud. It doesn't have a lot of wind/road noise either. It also has grocery hooks behind the drivers seat which is nice when shopping.

2007 Prius. The cons are it's a bit small (we traded away a Denali XL) but the pros are we are getting OVER 50 mpg! Nuff said.

I do miss the big SUV but could no longer justify/rationalize those visits to the gas station. I see many folks still can but we noticed the impact in our bill paying virtually overnight.

I drive a Lexus 400h. It's the mid size hybrid SUV. It's a little over 2 years old and I love it. It is so smooth and quiet. Our other car that DH drives to Atlantic City for work is a 1998 Honda Civic and is a basic car but very reliable.
