What kind of VACUUM CLEANER do you have or recommend?

I second the Kirby vaccum as well. It has a lot of nice attachments that make vaccuming much easier. Great suction and easy to use!

I recently bought a Kirby with all the attachments at a thrift store for $17! It is the LAST vacuum I'll ever use! WOW!

I just love my Dyson. We have central vac as well and nothing compares to the Dyson.

I just had my vacuum at the shop recently...ended up having to toss it because he couldn't get parts. Anyway, I asked what brands he recommended and he told me Electrolux and some other brand I never heard of and can't remember.

I asked about Dyson and Oreck and he said, "They'll probably be great in a few years when they work out the kinks" and said he's seen a lot in for service. He also tried to convince me that bag is better than bagless, but I have two dogs so it would cost me a fortune in bags alone.

I'm still thinking about getting a Dyson because all the reviews I read are great for it.

We have an Oreck, for about 12-15 years now, only have replaced the belt every so often, maybe every other year, and one roller with new brushes some years back. It's great. I notice a number of the resorts at WDW use them in housekeeping also, as did the large resort we were at in Wisconsin last month. I figure those places have done some research

Have a Dyson and love it. Had the Hoover Windtunnel self propelled and it broke the first time I used it. Good luck.

I have an Oreck. Works great and it is nice and light to carry. I think it was under 400.00 also.

I'm not surprised that he said that about the Dyson since it's relatively new, but Oreck has been around for a very long time so I'm pretty sure the kinks have already been worked out. Also, usually Oreck dealers repair their own vacuums since most have very long warranties.

In any case, I hope you find a vacuum that works for you. There are so many out there right now that it's a tough decision. :)

Jeafl -- Watch for things not covered under that Oreck warranty. This may have been fixed -- Consumer Reports called it a design flaw -- but Oreck used to have no protection for small hard objects sucked up going into the motor. Mine was about four years old when it sucked up a rock left on the floor by my little boy -- killed the motor.

I bought the Hoover Widepath Foldaway a little over a month ago. I love it, its got great suction and HEPA Filters, and it put it in the coat closet and don't worry about messing up the coats. I agreee with those who said not to bother with Eureka. We just got rid of Eureka bagless model that was awfull, it kept spitting the dirt and carpet lint back out( our landlord installed cheap carpet that sheds:rolleyes: )

I say got for a Hoover. They work great and do't cost tons of money. I bought mine at Target where i work, so i got a discount, but it was a little over 100 dollars i think.

Thanks tarheel, that is definitely worth looking into. I am constantly vacuuming up Polly Pocket pieces and Barbie shoes. I'm sure rocks are not far behind!

Thanks for all your advice!!

We ended up getting a Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled with HEPA from Overstock. In the stores (We went and looked at them all) this model is $399, but on Overstock it was $150... and we got the 2 year extended warranty just in case. It got GREAT reviews on overstock, and with 2.95 shipping, it's worth a shot! Should be here this week!

Someday we'll fork out the dough for that Dyson... I love the yellow one ;)
