What kind of sunblock lotion do you use?

I use Coppertone SPF 8 or 15. Any SPF above that makes my lips and eyes swell. I do reapply frequently and wear a hat and sunglasses faithfully. My father was part Native American and I inherited his complexion.

My girls use Target brand SPF 50 for kids, and they have never been burnt.

My husband will use the Target brand SPF 30 Sport sunblock if he's going fishing for a long day (usually will only reapply his shoulders/back/face)

Otherwise, he & I use Hawaiian Tropic SPF 30. It doesn't feel greasy at all, and smells great.

My DS13 uses Ocean Potion (Sensitive Skin). It works great and he's super fair

I have a sun allergy and have to use Blue Lizard (Zinc Based) which provides a near total block.

I also read a great review of the Target brand sunscreen and bought the spray version to try for my DS and DH.

Here is a great web site if you are like me and don't want a lot of bad chemicals on you or your kids. I was using Aveeno Baby until I saw this.

I totally agree with this. My pediatrician started to advise her patients last year about the huge rise in skin cancer since the big push to use sunscreen. Everyone should google chemical sunscreen so you can see the harmful effects. She advices all of her patients to wear hats, wear protective clothing, look for shade, and limit time in direct sunlight. She said that if you cannot avoid extended sun exposure that the only sunblock she will recommend is Coppertone Pure and Simple. The active ingredient is Titaniam Dioxide. She said that Neutrogena is the worst because they advertise like they are such a pure company and they use all the bad chemicals. Even in the inactive ingredients. She said to avoid Retinyl palmitate because it is a known carcinogen. Very scary stuff.

I use the Target brand lotion and spray. The spray is the best I've used. We go through a ton of sunblock here in TX and the Target brand works great without breaking the bank like some of the other brands. It smells nice, too, and does the job. No sunburns in 2 summers so far for any of us!

This! :thumbsup2 Best sunscreen ever!! I get the 50spf 2pack. Last time I spent 10bucks for 2. Good deal and protects me from sunburns. I am also on antibiotic that increases my chances of burning so this is very important to me.

We are pasty blonde folk and use Blue Lizard for our faces and Blue Lizard AND Target for our bodies. The BL is from Australia (where the big hole in the ozone is!) and came on a reccomendation from a friend who is a Dermatologist. The BL and Target are different types (physical block vs chemical block) and actually can be used together for a (slight) increase in protection.

We use Arbonne ABC lotion for babys. It is thick but works great. We never get burned and remain as pasty as ever.:lmao:

Now I'm rethinking my sunscreen. DH works with a guy who used to work in the nanotechnology field, and I don't like the idea of zinc oxide INSIDE the body, especially for the kids. I found a list of nanotech free sunscreens, most of which are mineral sunscreens. I tried some in the past and burned with them on- not sure they work for me.

Found out the Bare Minerals has nano particles that can be inhaled. Hate to admit it, but I'll take the risk, vs absorbing it into my bloodstream.

I always moisturize with a good moisturizer before applying sunscreen hoping that my skin will soak up the moisturizer instead of the chemicals in the sunscreen. The sunscreen still seems to do the job.

We only use Badger sunscreen. It has the best rating on the cosmetic safety database.

I use Ocean Potion, but I have to be really careful about what I use because I'm allergic to a lot of lotions (and it smells good). I can't use the spray lotion or spray aloe because I break out in hives before I've even finished applying it.

I use the coppertone Pure and Simple for the kids. I REFUSE to use any sunscreen that has oxybenzone in it. Sadly about 90% or so do. Banana boat besides being bad for you is one of the worst for excema. For myself I use a coppertone as well.

I just discovered the Clarins (sp?) sunscreen for the face (SPF 50) -WOW! It just feels like a moisturizer, not a sunscreen at all. Why didn't I know this existed years ago?
