My Fridge is biting the dust after 20 yrs. I had an Amana and wanted that again but money wise I can't do it. I want a side by side and not many fit into my cabinet space. I found one by Kitchenaid that I really like and it will fit. I think Kichenaid is a good name, what do you have and is it side by side or freezer on top or on the bottom? Thanks for the help :D

Maytag Plus, I would get a wide-by-side if your kitchen can accommodate it. It's much wider than a regular side-by-side.
I always go with Maytag. Having the ice and water on the outside is great!

We have a Kenmore, side by side. We've had it about 4 years, so far so good. I wanted a larger side by side because I wanted a larger freezer. It just fits into the space. I remember when I had it delivered, the delivery man came in and looked at kitchen and how it had to come into the house and said.... "Lady, you've got a BIG refrigerator out here, I hope it fits!" Well he got it in just fine, had to take all the doors off, the refrig and my back door.

Check GE as well. They now make KitchenAid and maybe it will be less money for the same model. I have a KitchenAid side by side that I got about a year ago. It is the one that is the same depth as the cabinets and has the panels on it. I actually do not like it because it doesn't seem to hold very much food. It has a built in water filtration system that I think must take up too much room. I followed the suggestion to get this fridge from my kitchen designer and I wish I hadn't. Also it only has three drawers and my old one had four which I liked better- one each to hold fruit, vegetables, meat, and cheeses. Be sure you will have the clearance on either side to be able to open and close the doors.

You did say no Amana, but in answer to question, that is ours. Our first was a side by side, lasted 26 years, new one is almost the same, now 7 years old. We like them. Good luck.

I have a GE side by side It was about $1400 when we bought it.

I will say, I hate side by side fridges!!!!!!!!! The shelves are not wide enough, the freezer is small. I wanted a fridge on top, freezer on bottom model, but DH convinced me that the side by side had more cubic feet of space(which it did, but it's not as usable!). Even he hates it now that we have it!

Our next fridge will be the one I want!;)

We bought the maytag wide by side for the new kitchen. Lynn, do you have one? do you like it? I was a little hesitant, but that's what DH wanted and this is HIS kitchen.

Another Amana owner here. I prefer crushed ice and this side by side had it. We've had this for 6 years and haven't had any trouble with it. You may want to check appliance stores in your area. They sometimes offer reabates and zero percent financing. Annmarie

We have the largest side by side Frigidaire makes. We've had it since October and we love it. I always wanted a side by side and am not disappointed in it at all.

We have a Kenmore side-by-side with the ice/washer dispenser on the door. We've had it about four years. We like it.

We brought it from a Sears Outlet Center that sells returned refrigerators. These are new refrigerators probably returned at time of delivery for one reason or another. Ours had a slight dent on the side bottom. Cost was about $800 with the same warrantee as their regular store.

We also brought a front-loading Maytag washer which we've had for about three years.

We have a Whirlpool side by side. We chose that over Kitchenaid because it is the same just less expensive. Whirlpool owns Kitchenaid. We had to make sure the height would fit into the space we had available.

If you don't have a separate freezer then a side-by-side can be difficult. For example, you can't fit a turkey in the side-by-side freezer. I hate to admit it, but we are a family of four and I also have a freezer and another side-by-side (my old one) in the basement. I also have a dorm size fridge in my sun porch! I keep the fridge in the basement filled with drinks and sometimes an extra gallon of milk or OJ and just a few things in that freezer. My upright freezer in the basement has ice cream, frozen veggies, homemade sauce etc in it.

Oops I said GE was the same as KitchAid before and I meant Whirlpool. By the way the ice maker and the door dispenser for water and ice also take up valuable freezer space.

Boy, this question could have been asked by me a month ago! But we'd always had excellent luck with Whirlpool, so we bought another Whirlpool, our first side-by-side with ice and water in the door. Although I'll admit I like the ice in the door, I don't like the side by side. I bought a frozen pizza last week, and had to take the freezer shelf out just to get that in. Side by sides have too small freezers!

Yeah, that's why I think if you have a side-by-side you have to have another freezer. No room.

We replaced our Frigidaire fridge 2 years ago with another Frigidaire. Our old one was running fine, but the door shelves and what not were missing (broken off) and it was just time for a new one, after having it for 16 years.

We opted for a side by side from their "Gallery" series with the filtered water/crushed ice/ice cubes. I love it! The filter for the water can be bought at any home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes and it runs about $24.00. We drink a lot of water and it lasts about 3 months. It filters the water for the ice too.

Frigidaire Gallery series.

Last year we had to replace our fridge, stove and microwave. Got Whirlpool Gold for all of them and are very happy with them.

We have the traditional freezer on top. Looked at the side by side but as some others have said I don't care for the storage space. I make dipped chocolates and need something I can put a cookie sheet in to freeze.

Good luck with your choices!

We have an Amana with a freezer drawer on the bottom, and we really like it. DH didn't want one with the ice/water on the door, but now I think he is sorry he didn't go with it. --well hopefully we won't have to decide on that again real soon, since our current one is only about a year old.

Mine is an Amana and it's an "upside down" model. Refrigerator on top, freezer on bottom (not the drawer kind, just the regular kind with a door). I LOVE having the freezer on the bottom!

I'd have to go look to tell you. All I know is that I put warm things in, and they come out cold. Oh yeah, it's white, too.
