what kind of points do you need for a transfer?

About what number of points do transfers take? I'm working on DH again for the addon--my selling point is that I promise in 2004 we can trade somewhere else. After our cruise and land next year we'll have 316 points to trade out--is that a decent amount? We would probably want to go somewhere tropical, hopefully it's cheaper in the summer--Aruba, Cayman, Hawaii, etc. The only place that interests me on the DVC video is that TAnque Verde Ranch.

Yes, that is a decent number of points the way that I have figured what we need based on the guidelines from DVC. Many people have reported getting exchanges for under 200 points per week. In any case, 296 points will get you a 2BR at OKW at any time of the year except Christmas week and Thanksgiving. Thus, that would generally mean you can get any exchange for 296 or fewer points (and, as I understand it, DVC works to minimize the number of points you will need to use by checking different DVC resorts, seasons, etc.). We are considering an exchange to Europe in a couple of years, so I too have tried to figure this out. Good luck!
