Hi Dis Gang. As many of you know there was A Terrible Crash in Buffalo NY thursday night A Commuter Turbo-prop killing all on board pluss 1 on the ground. Soo my question is What kind of passenger plane do you think is safe?

This horrific accident broke a 2 1/2 year record for American aviation safety.

These are the first fatalities in 2 1/2 years on American soil.

While our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these folks, please keep in mind that many, many more people have persihed in auto accidents in that same time frame.

The same question can be asked of any mode of transportation....which car.....which model of train....which bus....which bicycle do you feel is safe.

Accidents happen anywhere, any time to anyone.

Airplane accidents make the news because they are far less frequent.

I know that doesnt answer your question....just something else to think about.

I agree with Kevin! I had an incident with a small plane that was very upsetting but got right back on a plane. I think all airplanes are very safe.

That is soo true Kevin. in 1995 I flew in a Plane simular to the one that crashed in Buffalo. it was a older version called the Dehavaland Dash 8. at the time i flew we had several crashes involving turbo-props. If i remember A American Egale ATR 72 crashed in 1995 i can't remember when. And in 2005 the night before I was to fly to St Louis A Airfrance Airbus A340 crash-landed and caught fire in Toronto No one was killed. the plane I flew to St Louis on in 2005 was A New Southwest Boeing 737-700 series . in 1994 A Older 737-300 (USAir) crashed in Pittsburgh killing all on board. the crash may have been caused by the tail rudder problems. many 737's were taken out of service to have the problem fixed. The same issue happened on the Mcdonell Douglas MD-80 aircraft. I agree with what you said. Flying is still safe but accidents still happend.

I didn't vote because there wasn't a choice for all of the above. Certainly they are all safer than driving.

Oh, and Launchpad11B shouldn't get to vote in this poll anyway - he actually jumps out of perfectly good airplanes. :lmao:

I think they are all "safe" (despite my gloom and doom moments well hidden by Xanax at times) but I feel most comfortable on an Airbus A319 (the fleet flown by my favorite airline, Frontier.) However, having been fortunate enough to have grown up with my mom working for United, I have flown on practically every size passenger plane....and can say, although I have had some scary moments (although probably not truly serious issues), I am still here....any plane could be considered safe if it is well maintained, flying with a well trained and observant crew and flying under safe conditions.

I voted for all, since there's no all of the above option. I think Kevin's point is a good one; statistically air travel is safer than auto travel. I've been in all of the listed types on a variety of occasions and I can't say as I really felt more uneasy in the small planes than the large ones. Felt sicker in the small ones, though (bouncebouncebounce over the water :headache: ).

I think all planes can be safe under the right conditions, and, sadly, unsafe under the right (wrong) conditions.

I think all are safe, however i FEEL safer in a Boing 747 (i think it is anyway) cause thats what i have mainly flown in. Im not a big fan of smaller planes, just because i am not used to them!

Yep. All are safe. I prefer bigger planes, but they are all safe!

Agree

Statistically speaking, jet engines are more reliable (significantly so) than turboprops. So all else being equal, jets are safer than turboprops.

And although it is frequently said that airplanes provide the safest way to travel (even Superman says so, after all), it really isn't true when you compare apples to apples. Airlines are safer when compared to all forms of road travel, but not when you compare them to commercial buses -- which is the closest equivalent.
