I'm on a medication (progesterone based) now that cures a huge problem in my life...but the side effects stink!!

I have acne and an increased appetite/weight gain.

Not sure which is worse!!

What kind of side effects do you have to live with?

What a coincidence you started this thread!! I was just growling about the side effects of pills they prescribe for me! I always tell DH that what's going to kill me someday is my inability to take drugs because I hate the side effects!!

I take doxycycline for my face but I really don't like it. If I don't eat the right amount of food, it makes me sick.

Most antibiotics end up giving me a horrid bladder infection so I rarely take those.

I even have problems using my inhaler!

My Lupron inejctions cause the worst headaches I've ever had in my life. The only thing that makes me not hurl myself out of my window is a frozen gel mask. I also have awful nausea. I don't know if that's caused from the Lupron or the headache. I can barely eat. I also can't drink soda. I like my one bottle of diet coke a day and I can't even smell the stuff.

The Follistim injections cause more nausea and food aversions. It's not a side effect, but I can't move because my ovaries are 5x their normal size. That's the intended effect, so I guess I can't complain! :teeth:

I take Doxycyline before my surgery, but I don't notice any side effects.

I take another injection that gives me the world's worst rash. It feels like a massive burn. Last time, it reached into my belly button. :guilty:

I take progesterone injections that make the nausea come at me at an alarming rate.

The Clomid I took caused my vision to get all messed up.

Man, if I ever have kids, I am going to have one heck of a guilt trip to lay down. We all got the "I was in labor for 36 hours with you...." I have that SO beat! :goodvibes

(that was a joke.....if I don't laugh, I'll cry)

Oh Jeez, you probably don't want me getting into this..Lets see.. It starts with permanent nausea. I get peripheral Neuropathy which is really bad pain and numbness in my right arm and hand. Weight gain ,fatty deposits. IT's highly likely that my heart failure and heart damage was a result of the anti-HIV meds..They are slowly doing permanent dame to my heart ,liver,pancreas... Basically it's like living on permanent chemotherapy

Lupron is the WORST drug I've ever been on...I was on for endometriosis. THe hot flashes were horrendous and the drying out of ALL mucous membranes...and the tne mood swings and memory loss! UGH. Never again.

I'm on birth control, and occaisionally I'll have a breakout. Easy to control the weight gain with exercise.

I truly sympathize with all of you. I have a DD with a chronic illness, and she handles medication in general extremely well, altho even the occasional nausea can disrupt a school day. When she was on Prednisone, I kept reading horror stories about it, but even the new doctor she saw said "You don't LOOK like someone on prednisone." As much as I hate the fact that she has the illness and needs the treatment, I am very grateful that she holds up this well.

I took a new medication right before a Universal/Disney trip, and simple kiddie rides made me dizzy and nauseous. My insurance company sent a letter last month saying they would no longer cover one of my meds, and my heart sunk, as we have another Disney trip coming up and I hated to change medications, but they did (for some unknown reason) cover another month's worth. But this is nothing compared to what so many people have to deal with!

My 83 yr old mom is dealing with all sorts of health problems, but sometimes the side effects are as bad as the illness. It just kills me to see her suffer at this age...what is there to look forward to?

Anyway, I just want to say again, that I sympathize with you all.

FreshTressa, I maybe we're on the same treatment? My side effects are the same as yours, and I have a huge problem under control also

It's a case of the lesser of 2 evils

I've been on over 15 different psychiatric meds in the past 5 years so I have a lot of experience with side effects.

Right now I have:
-numbness in my hands and feet (it comes and goes)
-frequent urination (like i pee and then two minutes later i pee again)
-Excessive thirst (and drinking to keep up with it)
-no appetite so that I never get hungry and I never want to eat and I've actually lost weight (I know there is jealousy involved but I didnt WANT to lose the weight and if I continue on the path I am on by summer I will be underweight)
- Tremmors in my hands/arms and legs, my dr gave me a med to counteract the tremmor though because I am having trouble with daily living (eating, writing) because of it

My sister too prednisone... AWFUL stuff (I would live with my side effects any day instead)

I just found out that the acid reflux medicine I'm on causes dizziness. That's what happens when you get a new bathroom sink and the pill bottle is now at eye level. :lmao: I never noticed it before and lately I have been having dizzy spells, which I just thought were caused by not enough sleep, not eating properly or my occasional migraine. I had started thinking maybe I should see the doctor about it when I was sitting there and noticed the warning on the bottle. :rolleyes1 I now realize that I don't have the dizziness on the weekends when I don't take the medication.

Yah, they gave me doxycyclene for my face because it is so bad from the progesterone, but I get sick and feel itchy when I take it.

I feel like it is weird choices.....acne or sick to my stomach.....fat, or not anemic etc.

Poor DW Lauri (MeanLaureen) - sometimes I wonder if the side effects from her current medicine cocktail - right now at 21 pills daily - is worse than the illness.

I know she complains the most about sweating, weight gain, hallucinations, balance issues, acid reflux, dryness of the mouth, sleepiness (She ends up sleeping for 2 days in a row sometimes when it gets bad). I'm sure there are others. I'll tell her about this thread when she gets home from work.

I take Advair which causes oral thrush, and an antifungal to control that which makes me nauseus.

Singulair causes elevated BP so I'm on the high end of pre-hypertension.

Allegra-D gives me "cotton mouth" and I drink excessive amounts of water, which I think might be what's causing my constant lower back (read kidney) discomfort.

The steroids cause tinnitus, which is maddening, and give me brain fog.

Albuterol makes me nauseus and gives me a debilitating headache when I use it in my nebulizer, it's not so bad as a rescue inhaler, then I just shake as if my body is in shock.
