What kind of ID do you use for your kids?

I am looking for some ideas of a way to put something on my kids that will have some id information. Like their name, mine and DH's name, our resort, cell phone numbers, etc.

Do any of you have any idea of something that is good to use for this? My DD's are 3 (turning 4 while we are at Disney) and 8.

I used 'Who's Shoes' ID tags for my kids (3 and 18 months) on our last visit. I was super paranoid about losing them, and they wouldn't be able to remember a cell phone number.

The ID's are velcro straps that you can open and write contact information on the inside, then strap onto your kids' shoes (velcro straps or laces). They worked great, and luckily we didn't need to use them. I think they cost about $6.

I've read some people get tags made at Walmart. But I've never seen these machines. Where are they located?

The ID machines at WalMart are almost always right by the front door, in the entryway next to the cart storage. They are marked as being for pet collar tags, but they also make generic tags you can use for any purpose.

As we stay onsite, we get a resort ID for DS, and we use a Sharpie to write a cell phone # on it. He wears it in a clear pocket lanyard around his neck, along with his park hopper and fastpasses. Any CM can use that resort ID to find out who we are and where we are staying.

I printed off address labels with our name, cell phone, hotel and room number (wrote that in when we got there) and put them inside the back collar of the kids' shirts each day.

I've also heard of people writing their cell phone number with a Sharpie permanent marker on the child's upper arm. Just teach them to find a CM and show them the number. I've also always told mine to find another mommy---I can't imagine a mom with kids not being helpful to a lost child.

We rehearsed this at home before we went, practicing what to say, etc.

We preprinted labels with last name, cell number, and resort to stick on clothing where they would not come off easily. We also took digital pictures each morning as a record of what they were wearing.

Explaining what to do in case there is separation is a good idea. One member of the Little Delegation simply wandered off with the crowd for a few minutes, and was located shortly thereafter, none the worse for wear. Mrs. Ambassador was a wreck, for which The Ambassador paid dearly.

My kids have little cards in their pockets with their ages, our names and cell phone #. I've explained what to do if they get seperated from us but I've also made little bracelets (or in DS 2 1/2 case, an anklet since he will take a bracelet off) with letter and number beads that says Mom's cell and my cell phone #. My 4 year old knows his home number but not my cell number. I figure with the bracelet if they are super upset and can't remember their cards or what to say a CM will likely see it and can call me.

Hopefully it won't be needed anyway!

I made a tag at PetSmart w/ DS's name and DH's & my cell phone #'s on it.

I printed a wallet sized family photo and wrote our resort and cell number on the back and then laminated it-that way if they got lost the CM would know what we all look like.

I made a teeny tiny id (using font size 4) laminated it and punched a hole on one end. I then threaded the id on the kids' shoes using cable ties.

It was barely noticable. You really had to look for it to even see it. I told the kids that if they got lost, they needed to find a CM and show the CM their shoe. On the tag I typed their name and our cell phone. That was it - no other information.

One other thing is that when we enter the parks I introduce DD5 to a CM and show her his tag. CM are the only ones with the white badges. All the other color badges are sold to the general public but not the white ones.

lovesdumbo, i love the idea about the family picture. I usually do something like that but with mickey on one side and info on the other so when she has it in her plastic pocket on the lanyard not just anyone sees the info. I am going to try the picture next time.

I had a nice little id bracelet made for my son. The front has a train, his name and dob engraved on it. The back has our address, home #, my name and cell #, dads name and cell # and the drs #. It cost about $25 and he wears it all the time, even swimming as its stainless steel. The clasp is very strong-I have a hard time getting it open! He likes showing off the train. I got it from www.childsid.com and they have all sorts of items (dog tags, necklaces, bracelets for adults and kids). Return customers get 15% off and any updates are only half price.

We used luggage tags pinned to their clothes. Cheap luggage tags, slip the cell number, daddy's name, and the resort inside them. Pin them inside the pockets.

When we "forgot" one, we did the write on the arm trick - just Daddie's cell number in ball point pen. Lasted the few hours we were in the park - and it was my five year old who is old enough to be able to say "this is Daddy's cell phone number."

I use hospital ID bracelets and write our children's names, our cell phone#s and the resort we're staying at on the wristband. I always keep extra in my bag because people always ask where we got them. (I work in a hospital but I'm sure doctor's offices have them too).

Our kids have never gotten separated from us at WDW, but unbelivably it did happen on our cruise this year. We lost our 6yo DD for 40 terrifying minutes at the Mickey pool during the Sailaway Party!! Luckily we had already signed her into the kids club so she had her bracelet on. A CM took her to the Club and they paged us right away, but with the loud music and panic setting in, I didn't hear the beeper going off for quite a while. Strangely enough, we had JUST gotten through telling our kids if they got separated from us they should STAY PUT and we would find them. I had her in my sight in the pool, then left the table I was sitting at to put my feet in the edge of the pool near her ... it was so crowded we must have just missed eachother... DD panicked when she saw the empty table and went to look for me - another parent saw her crying and took her to a CM - all while I was searching for her at the pool... very scary but I was glad we'd signed her into the club right away. Just didn't realize that was where the lost kids went...

We bought the pony beads from Michael's & the black cording stretchy thread stuff. DD4 strung her own necklace & I used a Sharpie permanent marker to write my cell phone number on the beads (one number per bead). We practiced what to do if we got seperated (go up to a CM & tell them "I am lost, can you call my mom" & show them the necklace). DD4 wanted to wear the darn necklace EVERYWHERE & told everyone what she would do if she was lost so she got the message. Luckily she never got lost!!

We are leaving next week for WDW. I had seen a lot of good advice here. I laminated info. We made ID braclet's. I even went and had the metal tags printed at the pet store.

The one thing that still bothered me was what to do at Blizzard Beach. I'm afraid the ID braclet's might come off in the water. You can't attach anything to a shoe as they won't have on shoes.

Soooo there using the metal tags from the pet store. I bought some nice looking safety pins at the craft store and pinning them to there swim suit. Now I feel better. I have there name, resort and my cell # on the tag.

My D4 has her "Emergency Necklace" which I made myself. I bought cording, number and letter beads and a clasp. I spelt out "My name is ___ If Lost call ____" and I put my cell phone on it. This way, she can use it at home too. I used a bunch of extra colored beads so she thinks it is so cool.

She jut recently went out of state with my sister and her husband. I got a call from my brother in law. He and my DD were practicing how to approach someone for help using her nceklace. She did a A+ job!

When she left withthem, I also taped a piece of paper to the inside of her pocket with my sister's name and cell phone on it. Better safe than sorry. I was thrilled that my BIL thought to practice with her.

The dog tag pinned into the swim suit is a brilliant idea. We make ID cards for all of our kids and laminate them. THey have our cell numbers and the address of our condo on them, as well as the kids pictures. I am trying to figure out how to get my wife's picture and mine on them as well.

Re the dog tag on the swim suit. I believe I read on here that you cant wear anything metal on the water slides as it will scratch them. A small zipper seems to be ok though (like on a pocket). Even if you pin it to the inside of the suit, the pin may still be a problem. Also, what would happen it the pin were to open? OUCH!

OMG, I didn't think of that. Now, what do I do at BB? We're leaving in a couple of hrs.
