What kind of food do you feed your dog?

I used to feed her Candidae per the breeder's recommendation. If that couldn't be found (or in my case the store that sold it closed), she recommended Purina One for Sensitive Systems. I have a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, and they can have just that. So far, so good.

Go! Natural Chicken and vegetable.

We are going to switch or 7mo. old spaniel/retriever to Kirkland's puppy kibble. A lady in front of me at Costco had a bag in her cart and she was telling me that she was a breeder and when comparing the Kirkland food to high end brands Kirkland has just as good if not better nutrients. I think the 20 lb bag is $12.99

I have been giving her roasted chicken with either brown rice mixed in or sweet potato but I want to add some variety! Have you tried any other foods that your dog is OK with?
Just wondering if you have had success with any other foods besides rice, carrots and chopped meat. Thanks!

My dog is only 5 pounds but he eats a great deal like yours. I bake chicken breast and add carrots, sweet potatoes or string beans to it. Cottage cheese is good, too.

Tiny dogs, such as mine, tend to have problems with their anal glands... must be "expressed" at times. After a horrible episode this past summer, my vet suggested at each meal my dog have either sweet potatoes, string beans or carrots added to the meat for ruffage. He said peas and beans were fine, too. I can't quite bring myself to add beans (other than string beans) because I'm afraid of a gas problem being created.

When I purchase canned food, I get Innova (EVO) or California Natural. No fillers or dyes. :thumbsup2

Eagle Pack Hollistic Large Breed Puppy Food-whew! That's a mouthful! She also get's green beans, apples, strawberries and pretty much any other veggie we have left over as long as it doesn't have any salt, etc on it.

When she's full grown, I would like to switch her to Orijen or Taste of the Wild, but absolutely nothing with any by-products or corn meal.

We feed the Chicken Soup foods for our dog and our cats.

It is awesome, I've bought it in a pinch when the store was out of our brand, and it was also recommended by my breeder. It's just too small a bag for what I need-my puppy eats 6 cups of food a day. Although I could just buy 2 bags....

I currently feed my two German Shepherds Orijen. I pay $56 for a 30 lb bag. My male is allergic to many of the fillers that they use in low-quality food, so it's only high-quality grain-free for us!

In the past, we have also fed Acana and EVO successfully.

I have heard good things about Kirkland food, but it's so low-protein (28%, compared to the 42% in Orijen) that I'm sure I would spend almost as much as I do on Orijen, because I'd have to feed so much to my two 90 lb dogs!

How many calories are in each cup? I know my breeder told me when our pup is full grown she'll be about 120-ish, and should only need about 3 cups a day as long as it's a high quality food. ( no fillers ) Right now she's 90 lbs and 8 months old, so we need to keep her on low protein so she doesn't grow too quickly.

I feed my pup Kirkland brand from Costco. It's pretty cheap, has a decent rating and she loves it. She's completely healthy and has a great coat, good poops (TMI? lol) and she gobbles it down. I have her on the puppy formula right now but will switch her over to adult in a few months.

I fed her Orijen when we first got her but I think the protein was too high and she had almost constant diarrhea. She's doing great on her current food though!

We are feeding Natural Balance Fish formula currently. We do add a little oil, plain yoghurt, a scoop of plain canned pumpkin, and an odd raw egg or canned sardine, and some green beans for variety.

Yep, I pamper my dogs. We have had good experiences with some other premium brands, but like to give them a gradual change if they get bored.

Natural Balance is quite expensive, but they like it -- and it seems to produce lovely coats and easily disposable solid "output."

The minimal "output" question is a serious consideration for us. That is why we tend to go for the more expensive *premium* kibble ;)

Every dog is different, just go with what works best for you.

Iams mini chunks. I buy it at BJ's. I have a 3lb. chihuahua and she will go through 2 bags a year. Seriously, I think I feed my dog for $40 a year.

She is 12 and has eaten it her whole life. She likes and has always been healthy.

I have fed Wellness, Nature's Instinct and Blue Buffalo. We have a cocker and a mix. The cocker has skin issues, so I have to be particular about what I feed them.

Where do you buy the more quality foods mentioned here like Orijen etc? Anyone know anything about Sam's club Excell brand?

Thank you! I have fed her plain yogurt but never cottage cheese. She may like that. I'm going to look into some greens like green beans too. She is picky on top of having allergies and the vet said she likely has an aversion to foods she is allergic to. Made sense.

We feed Wellness Core and use Orijen kibble as dog treats. Both are grain free.
