What kind of bag do you take in the parks?

Hi All,

Looking for some suggestions on small backpacks to take into the park. The bag I've been using is OK, but the inside is coming apart and it has too many pockets. (Which I know sounds weird, but I don't like having to open every single pocket for security.) The one thing I do like about the bag I have is that it's fold-able and folds down to practically nothing. I don't normally take a whole lot into the parks with me, usually just bottled water, a few small snacks, and I'll throw souvenirs in there that I've bought.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

I take a belly sling pack, compartment in front, easy to access with very long zipper, water bottle on the side.....and it makes you a good guest not slinging it around on your back or after exiting attractions, just slips over your shoulder and neck and away you go

I have several different bags that I take depending on my needs that day (AP who goes a lot). I have a small Vera Bradley backpack that I love that fits everything I need except a sweater. So water, camera, snacks, and anything I buy. I also have a small Ful one shoulder backpack that's a little bit smaller that I like as well.

I've done a crossbody purse or a regular sized Vera Bradley backpack. If i take the purse, I'm stuck with it. If I take the backpack, hubs will carry it some (even though it's Vera Bradley). Sometimes I'll compromise and we'll take the Star Wars backpack, but it's a much cheaper quality bag and the water bottle pockets on the sides aren't very deep. The backpack is bulky and is sometimes a pain, but I can get everything we need in it, including jackets for the cooler evenings.

I have a few that I use, depending on my mood and what I am taking in. I have a sling backpack from Thirty-One that I love! It's very light weight and easy to maneuver. I also have two Vera Bradley Disney cross body bags that I use on occasion!

I need to add...everyone carries their own crap now that the kids are 11yo and 16yo. They each had a small messenger bag or a string backpack to use as they wish. I'm only carrying my stuff!

Can I say how awesome it is to not have to haul everyone's stuff?

Lucky for me it's just myself and the hubby. No kids. :) Plus he offers to carry the backpack so I don't get stuck with it all day.

I get neck and shoulder pain if I carry something around my shoulders longer than a couple hours or two. For the past 6 years I've used a hiking lumbar pack (ie fanny pack). Mine is expandable, multiple pockets, super comfortable and I can wear it loaded for 12 hour park days. I have the Jansport Coltrane and it has held up very well. I also use it on camping and hiking trips so this bag has been put through it's paces and still has lots of use left in it.

I've posted this several times, and feel like a shill for the company (but, just a fan):

SCOTTeVEST clothing are a great replacement for a small bag or fanny pack. Everything is safely zipped into vest pockets, with nothing in pants pockets. I am never searched at the bag check, and know exactly what items (phone, glasses case...) that need to be removed to pass through the metal detector.

20% (or more) coupons are usually available, just do a search...

These always seem like a great idea, but I can't imagine wearing one in the heat of summer. :-(

I have several different versions, and wear them year round both in the parks and the "real" world.
Tropiformer is the lightest model, the back is mesh -- sleeves attach and cover the back (for cool evenings).

Thanks for all the replies! You guys have definitely given me some things to look into! :thumbsup2

I'm still a fan of the Eddie Bauer packable sling (which may be what you have) - it does have three zippered compartments that need to be opened, though.

I like that one! Not what I have, but similar. Mines an actual backpack, and has more than 3 zippers. 3 zippers would be doable, and I like the fact that it folds up for easy storage. Thanks!

If you don't have a lot of heavy stuff the Adidas Alliance ll cinchsack is nice, one small zipper pocket on the front for your phone (or whatever) and water bottle pockets on the sides. It's surprisingly comfortable if not loaded down with too much stuff.
