What kind of accesories do you have?

Ok thanks You saved me a lot of money. I was viewing the recommended products and well I thought I needed them thanks for setting me straight. :worship:

So I am going to get

Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

What about accesories what would you recommend?

Bags, Cases, Flash, I have memory cards (so I don't need that)

What kind of accesories do you have?

Sorry to sound so ignorant I just don't know much about it and I want to start using one. I want to make sure I can get everything I need from camera to accessories.

I am into photography but up until now all I have used is point and shoot. My family's first trip to WDW is important and my little sister's graduation is too.

Thanks everyone for all your help when I receive it I will show you my pics to get pointers on how to get them better.

You have memory cards, but do you have SD cards? The XSi only accepts SD and SDHC cards. If you shoot in RAW, an 8GB SDHC card holds ~450 pictures. Shooting JPEGs will give you a lot more space (each JPEG is about 4-5 MB), but you lose flexibility in post-processing. It's also good to have extra cards just in case you need them.

You'll need a bag for the camera and accessories. You'll get many different recommendations on what bag to get. Lowepro and Crumpler make good bags.

Another topic of debate are filters. Many people swear by putting a UV filter on the end of the lens to protect it, while others argue that the UV filter affects image quality (even if it's a very small amount). If you are going to get filters, you should get high-quality ones. There are also other filters that create effects, but most of those can be done in Photoshop now.

Cleaning accessories would be another good idea. A bulb blower can take care of most of your cleaning. Lens tissues and solution or a lenspen would be the next step.

Thanks I have a canon reg. camera so my memory cards are all Sd. I might get more SD memory cards just want to try what I have right now.

As far as the rest of the accessories thanks you are very helpful.

I will look into the high quality filters that may be an if. Since you said I can do that in photoshop I was planning into buying that too.

I have 2 bags. 1 is a "tiny" from walmart that just holds my camera and a small lens. I also have (on it's way) a fastpack 250. To carry at Disney. It'll hold my tabletop tripod, my flash, all my lenses, my camera, rainsleves, and a jacket for when it gets cold. I'll rent a locker to put my fullsize tripod in because I couldn't find any bags I happy with that also held a fullsize tripod.
As for a flash. I went to a closing Wolf Camera in my area and got a cheap ($13) univeral flash. I hate flash, DFi was set on getting one. So far it's been good it doesn't auto adjust with the camera, but it works pretty well.

it's an instant rebate so the dealer you get it from should have some sort of link that says it includes the rebate or some such wording.
if ever you are interested in lenses, my favorite review site is http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/ they usually have a pretty good list of lenses of most brands available for canon and nikon

Ok I bought my first SLR camera:cool1:. Thanks everyone for your help.

I bought it from Amazon.com $200.00 Instant rebate and also free shipping.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

Canon XS/XSI Digital Rebel Kit with Case, 58mm UV Filter and LP-E5 Li-ion Battery

What do you think about...

Canon Speedlite 220EX for Canon Pro1, Pro 90, G Series and all EOS SLR Cameras

I was thinking about buying it I have read good reviews on this item.

Thanks again for all your help. I will go to the library to read books and also maybe check out a photography course or class. Thanks for all your advice I will be reviewing the websites everyone posted. Thanks :worship:

I have a 220EX and use it with my Rebel Xsi. It works well, the tradeoff is it is small but does not have a lot of range. One of the limitations is the flash head does not tilt so it will not do bounce. The new 270EX will.

Ok Thanks I think I will buy it and try it out then as I am a beginner then I will get what ever technology is new and more appropriate to my interests thanks

Speaking of Photoshop, I've started using Lightroom (also made by Adobe) recently and I've barely touched Photoshop recently. Lightroom is a photo management app that also lets you do the basics without having to go into Photoshop. You can look through your entire library and adjust your photos all in one app. For heavier stuff you still have to use Photoshop, though.

There is a free open source option here: http://www.gimp.org/windows/

it's called gimp it does the samethings photoshop does, but it's free and helps support the open source comunity. I suggest giving it a try.

GIMP is like Photoshop; it doesn't do photo management like Lightroom though.

I agree with trying GIMP as a Photoshop alternative. You can also try using the included software as photo management/adjustment software if you like.

Thanks everyone I will give everything a try thanks a lot.

Ok So my camera arrived yesterday but I haven't had time to play with it.

Thanks to everyone for helping out. I have been very busy. I will hope to post some pics over the weekend of what I have taken and hopefully you will be able to help me and give me pointers.

If you still have money to spend and want to improve the quality of your indoor shots, you are better off investing in a flash like the 430ex instead of another lens. Any flash that lets you bounce the light will do amazing things for your photos.

This is the one I bought

Canon Speedlite 220EX

hope it is good.'

THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE I HAVE RECEIVED.

Interested in knowing what kind of Camera's you own?
