What is your Tween Girl going to dress up as for halloween?

Is it just me, or are there no good costumes out there for tween girls? Seriously, I've gone to several of the halloween costume stores, and Target, etc... and the costumes I'm finding are Sorority girl Frat party typr costumes. (don't flame me.. I used to be a sorority girl)... But honestly, my pre-teen is "too old" for the princess / Hannah montanna or HSM costumes... (so she says)... and too young for the "sexy witch" or "hot Devil" "trampy pirate" costumes.... I just wanted to see if everyone else has seen the same type of trend.

My 12 year old daughter is going as a goth mummy. But there is nothing goth about it except it came with black plastic roses to carry.

We told our kids they had to come up with "home" costumes this year. So my 11 yr. old DD decided she is going as a flower. She is wearing green pants and shirt, using green duck tape on her shoes and has cut out a blue poster board in the shape of flower petals to arrange around her face. Painting her face white and drawing a small ladybug and bumblebee on it somewhere.

I thought it was a pretty good idea!

My 13 and half year old is going as a Harry Potter character -- we already had the cape and she was very excited about the griffindor scarf I bought for her. My 11 year old is going as Angel from the Maximum Ride Books.

I think the tween/teen girls have to use their imagination and put together outfits more than the younger kids. Pirates were big with my daughter's group last year.

Went to the Goodwill and bought a powder blue formal dress, added a sash, tiara, and small heels. DD 11 is Miss.....Her School Name

She got to wear blue and glittery eyeshadow and we curled her hair. She looks like a cupcake but thinks it is fabulous.

For trick or treating on Saturday, we are switching the make up to a "dead" zombie look and she will be a zombie princess

I don't think I have ever bought a costume persay, we have bought pieces and then put things together

Last year she was ahippy, we had a blast with that costume

My 11 year old is going as Pink Panther - again, homemade. I refuse to purchase expensive costumes for a one day event (just my own approach to the holiday). We went to Salvation Army thrift store and found a pink long sleeve shirt, pink pajama bottom and fuzzy pink slippers. We'll use white fabric for the panther's belly area and use makeup on her face. We did purchase a set from Holloween store that came with pink fuzzy ears and pink fuzzzy tale.

My 13 year old is going as a hippy - I found cheap round sunglasses (John Lennon style) and she's using whatever she already has for the rest.

DGD (11) is still waffling back and forth right now with whether or not she's going to go out.. If she does, she'll whip up something from home.. She's very good at that and can be pretty darn creative..

Pirates were the popular costume here last year too. This year its vampires because of Twilight.
OP, what I find I have to do with most costumes is de-trampify them with a long sleeve black shirt and leggings. Although I do see alot of 10 year olds wearing them without this alteration

I know what you mean. My dd is 10 and tall for her age. She is done with all the princess stuff etc. She tried on a few costumes and luckily didn't like some of the ones that I thought were a little too old for her. She settled on the honey bee. It's cute.

My 13 year old loves history so she is wearing a Colonial American style dress. We bought it at an auction for about $5 this summer. She isn't sure if she is going to wear it to school on Friday though, she is a little worried about not being "cool".

My 11 yr old is going as a Hippie. She has a very floral vest and pants with bell-bottom fringe (hard to explain). She'll wear a long sleeve black t-shirt under the vest. I bought her a big peace necklace and peace sunglasses.

Ps...I know what you mean about the costumes for this age though. They are horrible. Last yr my DD was a devil. Some of the costume choices were ridiculous. They were made to look like a red stripper with horns. I said NO WAY! Thankfully we found one that was acceptable, but it wasn't easy.

DD10 is going in a homemade costume as a pirate. Everything came out of someone's closet. I did buy her an inflatable parrot for her shoulder. She does not do anything girly.

My 13yodd is going to be a "Dark Princess".

In fact she wore it to school today. Yes, they allowed the kids to wear their costumes. Why, I don't know.

Her friend with whom she is going to be trick or treating with, is going to be a "Snow Princess".

And MAMAMARY.... my DD is also very tall for her age, so many of the costumes are just too small for her, and because she looks older than she is.. I don't want people thinking she's that old... she will be trick or treating with her younger brothers. (they might think she's the mom)..

When we were kids we ALWAYS made home made costumes... I just wish I had more time to do it. It's fun to create something.. and make it personal.
HaHa... I heard someone was going to go as a homemade hotair balloon this year!

DD12 is going as ? not sure what to call it. She is going to wear black pants, her black converse and a longs sleeve black tshirt and put white tape on it for skeleton bones. She is wearing DS' Jack Skellington hat from WDW. She will wear some make up and dangly earrings. She has a large purse for candy that kind of coordinates with it. I told her we were not spending any money on a costume for her this year and this is what she came up with.

Last year she was a "Miss Smartie Pants"...I got the idea off of the internet and everyone loved it! We took an old pair of jeans of hers and hot glued Smarites all over them. We puff painted a tshirt with "Miss Smartie Pants" on it and all kinds of scientific equations, math problems, "Einstein is my hero",etc. with bright colored paint. She wore funky hair and glasses.
Easy and unique. We've had several friends who asked to borrow the shirt and accessories for this year!

I also found that once my girls hit a certain age/height I did not like the type of costumes out there. We have gone in both directions: 1.putting leggings ans shirts under the short/skimpy costumes or 2. creating our own costumes. This year I have one Princess Leia (she bought the hair headband at WDW this spring, brown jeans, white shirt, brown puffy vest...Hoth Leia), one cowgirl (cowboy hat we already had, leggings, jean skirt, plaid shirt she just got, bandana) and one witch (hat we already had, dress bought at Target in the juniors area, leggings).
