What is your Tween Girl going to dress up as for halloween?

DD12 went last year as a dead prom queen..she looked great..We teased her hair and made it all black in spots to look dirty..she had black roses..

this year ...I kind of told her to think of something since she wasn't going to be wearing short skirts with thigh highs and heels..So she decided to be a dead hockey player...She has the flyers jersey already..so we just really need makeup and tease her hair again..it will be fun and easy ...woohoo

We looked high and low for a costume my dd10 would love. Like you, we just could not find anything that was appropriate for her age. She and I both settled on an army girl costume from Target with intentions to add to it. She tried it on when we got home, and after adding a pair of leggings and her black Converse tennis shoes to the costume, she really likes it.

dd 13 came up with her own costume as well -

she's going as the main character from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" :rotfl2: No one is going to guess - she's ok with that!! :rotfl2: she's wearing her dad's bathrobe and slippers!!

(I may suggest the spa idea so she can wear her own bathrobe and slippers :rotfl2:)

I also have a problem with the prosti-costumes that are out there. DD12 and I compromised this year and I made her a "sassy" Queen of Hearts that looks sort of like the popular costumes without crossing any lines. I also made her bloomers to wear under it, since it does twirl quite a bit.

She wore it at MSNSSHP, on one of the freezing nights, so she layered a tee under the dress and I think still looked cute. Luckily, it will be in the 80s here on Halloween, so she should be able to wear it as made. The dress still passes my "I pledge" test - the neckline is not below her pinky when she puts her thumb at her throat.

we were at WDW for the first MNSSHP, so DD12 went with Alice.

It was the nicest one that wasn't too sexy. She is going with regular white stockings instead of thigh highs and regular shoes instead of the heeled boots that were shown with the costume. We adjusted the pinafore and added lace. It works. I don't mind starting with one of the kinda sexy ones as long as we can work with it to tame it down. We did that with a goth fairy costume last year.

That costume is super cute :D

I've basically made my own costume since I was 12. At 12, I was a book character. 13, I was Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. At 14, I was Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold (my mom even bought me fake piercings and tattoo sleeves :D). This year I'm being Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco in his ringleader costume from "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies".

I dress up as males most year since there's no way to make that slutty

My 11 year old and her friends are dressing as the Candy Land Queens. My Dd is Queen Frostine, one girl is Lolly and I forget the other. We got a blue dress off of e-bay and are putting the rest together ourselves. They do a group outfit every year.

My DD is 13 and she is going as a flapper. She sewed some fringe on a dress her DSIL gave her and she looks really cute. She made a sequined headband with a feather, a feather boa and some fishnet stocking.

She went to a church party last weekend dressed as her brother. He is kind of known as a character, so she wore a flannel shirt he wears all the time with his sunglasses and a sign around her neck that had his name and AKA awesomeness written on it!

He failed to see the humor in it, but we thought it was cute!

all of the "tween" costumes i've found look more appropriate for a hooker, cut up to the hind end and cut down to the belly button. it's ridiculous. i bought DD12 a fifties girl costume at wal-mart (i'm not crafty and can't sew at all) and a cousin of mine is gifting me a silk scarf of his mom's to tie in DD's ponytail. his mom died recently, and i loved her very much, so he said after DD wore it, i could hand-wash it and keep it. i'm going to try to find a cheap scarf that matches it in some way to tie around her neck.

I just bought DD11 a witch costume that I think is a little on the sexy side:sick:, but I told her if I buy it she will have to wear the things she wears under her soccer uniform (Leggings and a long sleeve T-shirt) It's a good thing it is going to be cold here when we go trick or treating.

poor thing! i hope she stays warm! it's supposed to rain here, but will be in the 60's. thank goodness DD's costume has a long poodle skirt-DH wouldn't let her out of the house as a sexy dorothy or sexy vampire, even if she were 30...lol.

My 13 year old daughter is going as Little Dead Riding Hood this year. She got the idea from one of the on-line Halloween stores but I wasn't about to pay $40 for a few slips of material. So I bought her a red hooded cape from Target, a cheap oversized nightshirt, some fake blood and a "gaping neck wound". And she will wear black leggings and a black shirt underneath the nightshirt. She tore up the nightshirt and dragged it through the mud. She'll splatter it with blood and she'll carry a broken picnic basket.

Just got back from getting dd's costume. (i know, i know; but we never get in a big rush with these things.) Its a pirate girl. Its kind of look likes something Hannah Montana would wear. Shortish, fru-fru skirt but with leggings although even without the leggings it wouldn't show anything or really even be too short. The top has ribbons at the shoulders but it isn't low cut at all. She may wear a t-shirt under it but its not really a have to.

We got it at one of the Halloween stores that open up every year and it was actually labeled "tween".

wow! all these are great ideas!!
i totally agree that there are not too many choices that don't show too much skin!
i'm 'sorority girl' age lol, and i find it tough to find costumes that i feel comfortable in! so i usually make my own, this year i'm going as kat von d from miami ink. my costume cost me $3, just got a bunch of stick on tats, and the tat sleeves from a vending machine, and im gonna wear some punked out clothes (that i already have) and draw the stars on my face with eyeliner.

when i was a tween, i would always go for the 'scary' type of costumes, i always wanted to go pretty (like a cheerleader or something), but my dad was always so keen to do scary makeup on me, so i went as a vampire (a buffy vamp, this is long before twilight lol), 'the mummy' and a zombie during my tweens. hehe

you mommas have some amazing ideas for your tweens though :thumbsup2
i love the cirque du soliel character! how original

My 10-year old (does that count as a "tween"?) is going as Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.

Now, see, we had that idea a couple of months ago. But, we just couldn't find anything that distinguished her as Luna, lots of Harry stuff but no Luna. We did the same with her thinking to be Alex from Wizards of Waverly Place (besides I think that idea came from seeing an expensive outfit at the mall she wanted and I wouldn't buy. She thought it looked like Alex)

You know, talking about all these home costumes reminded me that when I was a young teen, we dressed as KISS! We didn't even use actual paint. It was Noxema and baby powder for the white and the black may have been face paint but used with a combo of eyeliner (to get the lines right). We just did the face and wore KISS t-shirts and jeans. A total hit at all the parties!

My DD was a pirate princess last year when we went to the TOT party at DCA in Disneyland.

I bought the top at Target as part of a PJ set, the tutu from her dance studio (she hated wearing it even though it "made" the costume) and the leggings from Target. The most expensive part of the costume was when she saw that her Build a Bear bunny "Flower" could get a matching Pirate Girl costume too! She still talks about taking Flower on California Screamin'.

We're doing Luna this year because her friend wanted to be Hermione and we were stuck matching the costume. I tried to convince her to be Ginny Weasley since the Gryffindor pieces are easier to find than the Ravenclaw ones. No can do ... her hair is not red. *sigh* I ended up putting the costume together from the local resale shops. I bought my DD a white button up shirt, a gray skirt, a gray sweater, sensible black shoes, a black graduation robe, a blue and white tie and somewhat matching muffler. The tie and muffler are not exactly Ravenclaw colors since they have black and lighter blue in them but they are close enough. I bought an iron-on Ravenclaw patch off eBay which looks great on the robe. We had some turquoise puka beads from a trip to Hawaii and my DH is going to add a "butterbeer" cork or two to it to be Luna's Nargle necklace.

Like others here she also has another costume. Her swim team has a party tonight and the costume has to be able to get wet. She and her friend are going as Surfer Girls. The have matching Nike "competition" bikinis (with a drawstring on the bottoms so they stay on!) and they are going to wear rash guards, board shorts and flip flops. We have a giant stuffed shark (don't ask) and they have a boogie board.

That sounds like a GREAT costume! Especially for a group of people.

DD is going as a girl at the spa. She's wearing a big fluffy robe, her hair up in a towel wrap (Dollar Tree), fake nails, and a green facial mask (painted on with face paint). She went to a church TOT night last night and won a prize for best homemade costume.

Oh.. I love this one too.. and so simple, but a great idea.
