What is your thermostat set at?

I'm cold reading all of your posts. Our house is 73 during the day and 68 at night. I don't know what our gas bill is but budget is $113 all year round and that includes our pool heater in the summer.

I don't like to be cold and it gives me headaches. Life's too short to freeze...

Me too! We're thin-blooded Floridians who are FREEZING this week. We've been set to 72-74 all day and all night. We're still wearing two shirts each and socks.

I'm anxious to see what our electic bill will be for this month. :scared1: Most years, the hottest summer months and coldest winter months run about $200 - that's heat/cooling, cooking, laundry, water heater, everything. I know this month will be high, but that's OK. It's worth it! I HATE being cold.

We're in NE Ohio and it's usually 62 during the day and we drop down to 60 at night. If it gets 20 below we usually bump it up to 64 during the day and 62 at night. We're used to it and tend to prefer it cooler. If we're real cold we put on the fireplace for a while.

66 downstairs in an open floor plan home in Alabama and 60 upstairs during the day. 60 down and 66 up at nighttime. Brrrrr. It got up to 32 today! Tonight should be 15. Man! I am in Huntsville! :confused3

It was 62, I had a great little heater for the living room where we spend most of the time that kept that room in the high 60's.

It broke this morning:( So now the whole house is 68. I'll just make up the additional cost in the spring and wait to turn on the AC. I'd rather be a little warm than to freeze. I just might say screw it and set it at 70! lol

We have an oil burning furnace with three different zones, two downstairs and one upstairs. One of the zones on the first floor has a gas/propane stove as well.

The downstairs main zone which is the kitchen, dinning room and playroom is set at 64 degrees.

The zone with the gas stove is set at 64 degrees and we flip the propane stove on and off to keep the temp around 68 degrees.

The zone upstairs is on a timer ... it's around 65 during the day and goes up to 70 at 7pm then down to 67 at 9pm to 8am. The reason it goes up so high is that the furnace is SUPER LOUD in DS's room for some reason so I have it heat up high so it doesn't need to kick on until he is fast asleep otherwise it scares him.

We filled up propane in OCtober for $169 and just did it again a week go for $250. We had gas filled on December 18th and just had it done again yesterday to the tune of $375 (with 20 gallons free!!) Ouch. DH works out of the house and our electric bills runs about $120/month. We figure December/January/February is going to cost us about $550-600/month.

Our furance is also 37 years old and we are replacing it this summer so we are hoping to cut our bills by 30% next year. We figure we will only have an electric bill in the summer that might jump a little due to a window unit in our room when needed. Throughout 12 months I don't think we are going to end up paying anymore combined than we did when we lived in South Florida and had AC running 300 days a year. We averaged $250 in the winter and $350 in the summer there.

I have mind set to 80 right now and still freeze. It usually set to 68 degrees. Until cold weather goes way this temperature it be set at. I had hard time breathing if set colder.

70 if we are home during the day, 66 at night and when we are gone during the day. The kids and I always have shirts plus sweatshirts on and are still cold unless it's at 70. Dh shovels snow with no coat on ;) We are in Mich.

I've NEVER had a bill for more than $375 during the very coldest month, and that is gas/electric combined. Now that we added more insulation, it's been about $225/mo the past couple of months. Did you check your reading and make sure it is accurate? Or is something leaking somewhere?

We definitely need new windows and doors. I think we'd save some $$$ getting those replaced.

We stay at 76 degrees for our 1700 sq ft home. We are also on the budget and our gas bill is $72 a month. I refuse to freeze when I don't have to!

wake up to 71...when we leave for school/work - 66

back again 71 and from 11p - 5am - 62

i have been raising the 71 - 73 when i'm home as its been so so cold here!

74-76. We are in GA and gas isn't too bad. You can lock in a cheap rate too. When we lived up north we couldn't afford to keep it that high! Now don't ask my electric bill in the summer though eek.

We have a programmable thermostat on ours. So we can set different temps for different times of the day.

Right before we wake up in the morning, we have it set to 72. Let the house warm up before getting out of our warm, cozy bed. Plus we don't like to freeze getting out of a hot, steamy shower.

During the day when we are not home, it's set as low as we can get it (65 I think). Right before we get home from work, it's set to go on half an hour before we get there. This way the house is heated when we walk in. Set at 72. Before we go to bed, set to drop back down to 69.

When we're home on the weekends, the only difference from above is it's set to 69 during the day (the time we would generally be at work).

70 for me, 60 during the day while I'm at work, I HATE feeling cold, and I HATE wearing a lot of clothes. lol But it evens out cuz in the summer I never have the air on.

We also have a programmable thermostat:

5:30am - 7:00am - 60 degrees

7:00am - 4:00pm - 57 degrees

4:00pm - 10:00pm - 60 degrees

10:00pm - 7:00am - 57 degrees

My DH and I are both extremely hot-natured, and I can't stand for it to be too hot in the house. I like to be able to wear long-sleeve shirts and lounge pants when we're home during the winter, and if the house is too hot, I burn up. If we had kids, I would definitely keep it warmer.

I did have to override the thermostat today, though. We were both out of school for a snow day, and I got a little chilly. (Our high today was 23 degrees.) I bumped the temperature up to 63 and got hot. It's back at 60 now.

By most standards here we keep our home frigid! We do wear long johns, sweaters, and extra layers but they keep us comfortable with the temperature set at 55.:goodvibes

We have electric heat. We keep it b/w 68 -70 when we are home. We have very old, drafty windows and the cold air just seems to blow right through. Would you believe that I will only lower it to 67 when we are at work/school because I'm worried that our Beta fish will freeze? :rolleyes1 It just kills my DH that I warm the whole house for a $3 fish. I can't help it...he's been a part of the family for 3 years. :lovestruc

Wow I envy your savings but I think my organs would be shivering! lol I think people have different sensitivities to the cold.

I'm in Northern VA - we have 2 zones. We have 2 small kids (3yrs and 6
mo), so I keep them pretty warm. One is set at 70 (electric) and the other is set at 71 (oil heat). The zone with the oil heat also has a wood burning stove downstairs - I always have a fire going when we're home.

When we are ....

...home: 68-70 degrees
...sleeping: 65 degrees
...at work/school: 62 degrees

We have ours set at 68 all the time and it keeps our house nice and toasty without being to hot. I would rather curl up under a blanket to keep warm at night than sweat to death.

65 at night
68 at 5:30 a.m - 6:30 a.m.
65 while at work
68 at 5:30 - 11:00 p.m.
