What is your thermostat set at?

Ours is off during the day while no one is home and at night, don't let it go below 55 though and when we are home it's at 68. Just got our bill this morning and it was $217, for me that is We have gas/electric combined.

Yikes! I'm dreading getting our next bill. Last month our bill was around $160 and we keep the house set on 73 and it still seems cold in our house...older house not insulated too well. I wear sweats and slippers to keep warm.

After reading this post last week, I started dropping our heat to 62 at night and I can't tell the difference! I actually sleep better! We usually leave it at 66 or 68 at night so hopefully this helps my bill!

We also have a Harmon pellet insert and keep the house at 70-74. We burn 1.5 to 2 bags a day when it is really cold, and about 1 per day on "normal" cold days. The house is 2100 sq ft. The stove saves us a ton and we keep the house 5 degrees warmer than when we were oil only.

I only use one tank of oil per winter as it only works the hot water system now.

We heat over 2800 sq ft with a little Harmon pellet stove. We set the temp for 68 when we are here. It drops down to 64 when we are at work. My dh is a heating tech. and says that it really doesn't make sense to lower it too much when you are away, because it puts a strain on the equipment to bring the house back up to temp if the difference is really large.

We burn about one bag of pellets (40 lbs) per day when the outside temp is above 20 degrees. We burn about a bag and a half on the chillier nights when the temps are near 0 or below.

I like the pellet stove because it provides a place to really get toasty if you need to, while keeping the rest of the house comfortable.
