What is your thermostat set at?

I'll try to cover it all ...

62 degrees - day and night
Raleigh NC area
2000 sq foot house (2 levels)
gas heat
just got last month's gas bill it was $117 *

*(that's for gas heat and gas hot water heater )

We have ours set at 68 and you all have me thinking that maybe I could drop it even lower at night...maybe I will try it!

We're in fridgid Minnesota. My bill went from $100 last month to $215 this month for gas and electric and Dec wasn't even that cold here! :scared1: We're in a brand new house, gas heat and water heater, about 2800 sq ft is heated. After I got my bill I turned it down to about 64 when we leave for work and bump it to about 66 when I get home and turn it back down at bedtime. I try to suffer through the cold in the morning and not bump it back up. It didn't really start to get cold cold here till new years when we started hitting below zero and teens. Our billing cycle was 35 days this year so that could be why it's high plus we had Xmas lights on since Thanksgiving. We also have one of those fake electric fireplaces and that was on a LOT this month. Our electric was what went up more than anything...I wear cuddle duds to bed when it's REALLY cold out and I end up kicking off the blankets so I turn it way down. DD4 is in footie jammies so I know she's hot too. I figure if you get chilly, throw a blanket on your lap! DH heats the garage with a wood stove so at least that's free.

Wow! I don't know how you guys do it. Our house is at 71 degrees - I work at home on the computer, and if it is much colder than that it really makes my hands ache and I have a hard time writing. (I'm wearing a sweatshirt and jeans and warm socks, but my hands still feel the cold.) I leave it the same at night, too, because I can't sleep if I'm cold. I'm in Ontario, Canada.

Same here. At work it's warm but I have to have a space heater going by my desk or my hands get stiff and I can't type as well. It's like a sauna in there!

We are 100%l electric.....no gas and no water (we are on a well and use an electric pump for the water.)

We never pay more than $200, and it has been around $175 lately. That is for a 4,000 sq. ft. house (980 sq. ft is basement included).

Our thermostat is set at 68 or 69 usually.

Our house is VERY well insulated and we are thankful. 2.6 exterior walls and two sunrooms downstairs that seem to bring heat in on sunny days to help heat the place.

We also DO NOT have vaulted ceilings and I think that helps a lot with keeping costs down as well.

We live in Maryland and keep ours at 65 degrees; we have an all electric house about 2400 sq ft. We have a guinea pig in the house and that is the lowest temp that they tolerate -- even at that I have to have a heater under his cage to keep him warm.

Anybody know what the going rate is for heating oil if you don't have a contract? I wondered what it was with the cost of gasoline going up so fast lately.

We set it at 60 when we are away or sleeping, and 66-68 when we're home and awake. I can't remember what our last gas bill was, but under $200, I think.

We just paid $2.84 yesterday.

It depends on who's home. If the kids are home, it's usually 68. When my dh works at home, he keeps it on 62. We keep it at 60 at night.

After this cold spell, we should post how much our heating bills were. :scared1: I bet it wont be funny. :rolleyes1

It's supposed to be -29 degrees tonight! Ouch! It's been below zero all week. Our's is set at 69 and I am scared to see the next bill. I don't think I will see it...I'm just going to tell DH to pay it and not show me...what I don't know won't hurt me!

Another NE Ohioan :wave2:
We keep our house around 64-66, gas, 1200 sq ft ranch, $185 for December.

60 at night, 64 in the am, back to 60 when no one is here during the day, up to 64 in the late afternoon and evening....

we use propane and have a budget payment of $210 a month all year round

The absolute highest ours gets is 64 degrees.

I don't think we have ever set it higher than that. (It is currently 21 degrees outside right now, and we have it set at 63 degrees.)

We average about 62 degrees.

At night and when we aren't here, it goes down to 60 degrees, and I have never been cold.

We are in Central Illinois and we keep our heat at 71-72. The next bill we will get is going to be our highest so far and it was just under $250. A little higher than we care for but not too bad.

My parents keep theirs at 66 and it drives me nuts to go there, it is always soooo cold. And their bill is always higher than ours.

We are older folks and home all day. I keep it at 71 during the day and 68 in the evening. My gas bill
thru 11/28/09 $81.08
thru 12/28/09 $181.98

thru 1/28/09 was $239.00, my highest for 2009..

Mine is set at 72 and our last bill was 160 but thats why I live in Texas, cant stand the cold. Our $$$ are in the summer. We get so used to pushing the AC as high as we can stand it for the summer, we are not used to the cold

We're in GA and ours is set between 70-72. I don't like being cold! It's 18 degrees here tonight...I'm dreading the gas bill for this month!

60! If someone's cold they can put more clothes on!

Wow and I thought 63 was chilly! I had to work to convince my other half to turn it up cause our poor American Bulldog was shivering during the night. Now she has a down comforter all to herself...
