here's mine but I think it looks dull

turkey
salad
corn
rolls
potatoes
brocolli & cheese
craberry sauce
stuffing
gravy
applie pie
pumpkin pie
cool whip
veggie platter
cheese/cracker platter

Anyone serve something different for their Thanksgiving dinner?

Turkey
stuffing
rolls
sweet potato casserole
string/green beans with cranberries
baked beans
mashed potatoes and gravy (homemade only!)
pistachio salad
fruit salad
pumpkin pie
pecan pie

That's pretty much it. Nothing too fancy.

I make a sweet potato gratin and sometimes I make a pineapple stuffing that was posted on this site.

I also generally have

mashed turnip and carrots
green beans
cranberry apple jello salad
pecan pie
carrot cake
chocolate cream pie
pumpkin pie
Derby pie

OMG!!! LOVE THE PINEAPPLE STUFFING!!! Make it with a honey baked ham Yummo!

So far, mine is:

shrimp cocktail
fresh veggies with dill dip
oven roasted turky with thyme
herb dressing
gravy
either dilled asparagus or candied acorn squash
garlic mashed potatoes
maple pecan sweet potatoes
mountain berry tart
pecan pie
homemade pinot grigio
sparkling cider

Notice how I "niced" up the titles of the foods? Makes it sound more fancy! :rotfl2:

deconstructed brined turkey with herb gravy
triple berry cranberry sauce
traditional bread stuffing (and a gluten free version for MIL)
Brussel sprout salad
Homemade mashed potatoes
Butternut Squash apple soup
Pumpkin Flan (gluten free)
Chocolate pecan pie

we are a small group and I find doing the Turkey deconstructed really makes it cook faster and more even. I also only do one turkey leg as DS is the only one that likes it. Hard to find a Turkey born like that!

I have a small group this year so I am cutting down the menu.

Turkey w/gravy
stuffing
green bean casserole
sweet potato casserole
cranberries
raw veggies with dip
Apple butter pumpkin pie

ETA: I forgot the pumpkin beer and the cranberry daqueris......the most important part. LOL

What's a deconstructed turkey? Boneless, or halved so it lays flat in the pan?

We bought the juice at our local brew supply store. DH brews beer so he wanted to try wine too. It's really delish!

Deconstructed is the breast halved and legs seperate. You can cook at higher heat and get the whole thing done in about 1 1/2 hours. Recipe is on epicurious.com - search deconstructed turkey with sage gravy. It really comes out good - you lose the wow factor of the whole turkey - but I usually serve it carved anyway. Breats come out perfect and that is what everyone in my family likes best.

Butternut Squash apple soup

Brown an onion in olive oil. Add some thyme branches and cook until browned (about 15 minutes.) Add 2 big boxes of chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Peel and dice one or two butternut squashes. Peel and dice about 4 apples. Add veggies and fruit and cook until tender. Depending on your dicing ability this is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Can be over cooked so I wouldn't worry about that. I then blend with an immersion blender. Salt and pper to taste. You could blend in a regular blender too - just be careful with hot soup! It will now refrigerate or freeze beautifully if you want to prepare days ahead. I like to garnish with a few toasted pumpkin seeds.

I always laugh when I read all these nice menus. At my family or my house it's a free for all. Any place that can hold food can and will.

This year my husband and I will be eating out or at the army post since we will be out of town. Here is a normal menu at my family's house.

Turkey
Ham
Chicken and dressing
Cornbread dressing
Chicken and dumplings
Broccoli and cheese and rice casserole
Mashed potatoes and gravy
sweet potatoes mashed
sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, pecans and other goodness
Cranberry relish and a cranberry glaze/gravy
Green beans with pearl onions and almonds
Creamed Corn
Salad
Veggie platter

Biscuits
Cornbread
Rolls
Bread

Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie(usually 2-3)
Better than sex cake
Chocolate Pie
Buttermilk Pie
Cheesecake

And never a southern dinner without a jello mold;)

My mother used to make a great pumpkin flan, sadly I don't have the recipe and she's no longer here to ask her. Would you mind sharing your recipe?

I was a very pregnant sicko the year we were stationed in Panama. DH suggested eating Thanksgiving dinner at the mess hall. At first I was NO, but the more I thought about it, the better it sounded. We did go around the lunch hour and OMG....the food, both quantity and quality. I was quite thankful that the nausia had taken a break that day, because I stuffed myself silly.

If given the opportunity again, I would not hesitate to eat a holiday meal at the mess hall.

Pumpkin Flan
2 cups sugar
1 cup whole milk
2 (5-oz) cans evaporated milk (1 1/3 cups)
5 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
15-oz can solid-pack pumpkin (1 3/4 cups)
2 tablespoons premium golden agave tequila such as Herradura Reposado, or bourbon
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preheat oven to 375°F.

Heat a 2-quart souffl&é dish or round ceramic casserole in middle of oven.

Cook 1 cup sugar in a dry 2-quart heavy saucepan over moderately low heat, stirring slowly with a fork, until melted and pale golden. Cook caramel without stirring, swirling pan, until deep golden, about 5 minutes. Quickly and carefully remove hot dish from oven and immediately pour caramel into dish, tilting it to cover bottom and sides. (Leave oven on.) Keep tilting as caramel cools and thickens enough to stay in place.

Scald whole milk with evaporated milk in a saucepan and remove from heat. Beat eggs and remaining cup sugar with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Beat in salt, pumpkin, tequila, and spices. Pour milk mixture through a sieve into a bowl and beat into pumpkin mixture in a slow stream until combined well.

Pour custard over caramel in dish and set in a water bath of 1 inch hot water. Put pan in middle of oven and lower temperature to 350°F. Bake until golden brown on top and a knife inserted in center comes out clean, about 1 1/4 hours, possibly longer. Remove dish from water bath and transfer to a rack to cool. Chill flan, covered, until cold, at least 6 hours.

To unmold flan, run a thin knife around flan to loosen from sides of dish. Wiggle dish from side to side and, when flan moves freely in dish, invert a large serving platter with a lip over dish. Holding dish and platter securely together, quickly invert and turn out flan onto platter. Caramel will pour out over and around it. Cut flan into wedges and serve with caramel spooned over
