As a helpful poster told me, there are 8 UYs: Feb, Mar, Apr, Jun, Aug, Sep, Oct and Dec.

I know I read somewhere that there is a logic to choosing your UY but now I can't find it.

Assuming I want to book my home resort at the 11 month period and I currently plan to travel either October, December or May ....how would you recommend I choose my use year?

When I bought in 1999, my plans were to go May and December. I chose April for my use year, I actually waited for that use year to be sold in September that year.

In general, those who travel one time of year should be very careful to buy a UY where it starts as close to their usual travel as possible but not after, even one day. Banking/borrowing are also considerations. Those where that doesn't apply are simply taking more risk and should consider their situation as to how much risk that is if they change or cancel. For your situation if your visits will be spread evenly over those 3 periods, Oct is the best by far with Sept and April/Sept a reasonable compromise. IF the trips are more heavily situated for some of those times over others, it may alter what's best for you. For example if it's Dec & May and rarely Oct, then Dec is likely best or if it's rarely May but mostly the other 2, Oct is definitely best with Sept second.

If you want to book BLT at 11 months out for June dates with a Feb UY, you would call or go online in July of the prior year.

If you want to book BLT at 11 months out for June dates with a Sept UY, you would call or go online in July of the prior year.

You will quickly notice once you think about it that UY month has nothing to do with when you can call to book. 11 months is still 11 months. ;)

It's all about when you can bank points if you need to upon cancellation. So I prefer an Oct UY since I never want to travel in the Summer (i.e. July/Aug/Sept - which is at the very end of my UY) and typically prefer to travel in Nov/Dec. I can bank pts as late as May 31 of the next year so that gives me more options if I have to cancel a stay. Oct will also work pretty well for you (also April if that is easier to find.)

We have a September UY, and this UY covers all of your travel timeframes. Since you need to cancel 30 days prior to your trip so you don't lose your points, and because points need to be banked by April 30, May fits into this UY. We love September UY because those are also the months we prefer to travel (not so much Dec but January).
