Are you a slave to the callings or is it at your pleasure?

I only answer the phone when it is someone I feel like talking to and sometimes not even then. And I rarely answer the door.

Ha, thank god for caller ID. I only answer the phone if I want to talk as well. If it's unknown they can forget it!

I don't answer the door either unless I'm expecting something from UPS or the post office. If someone comes to visit they can very well call first.

Now I do have a teenager who gets visitors all the time but the kids know to come in the gate and to the back door.

We have talking caller id. It is awesome! I can hear from the other room who is calling and then decide if I should run and answer it! The digitized voice is kind of hard to understand, but it reapeats itself!
Door- Only if I am expecting someone, or if they can see me sitting at the dining room table dis'ing. Kind of hard to pretend I am not home then, huh?

I love my caller id!! If it weren't for that I would have answered the phone 3 different times to the hospital calling to ask me to come in to work on my day off yesterday!:rolleyes1 I also don't answer the unknown numbers- I put our number on the do not call list- wonder if that is expiring soon or something because I have been having a lot of sale calls lately-so I stopped answering them. We have also been having a lot of Obama and Clinton people coming to my door with flyers lately- it always seems to be at dinner time too.:headache:

I rarely answer the door, and never answer the home phone -- just let the machine pick it up. I almost always answer my cell phone, though. Only a few people have that number.

Thanks to caller ID, I screen every call. We no longer have an answering machine for our land line. If it's important, then those who really need me have my cell phone number and can leave a voice mail there.

I thought that said "What is your phone and door No.?" As in number.

I pretty much feel obligated to answer the phone. Dh doesn't. It leads to arguments between us because he will not always answer his phone when his mom calls, so then she calls my phone and I feel like I have to answer it. We cancelled our home phone over a year ago and just use our cell phones.

I won't open the door if I'm not, or the house isn't, presentable.

I feel the same way- if people I know ( or the schools, etc) need me they all have my cell number. My work does not. I actually turned my answering machine off yesterday because my work calling 3 times was just out of control- along with our lawn service trying to sell us more service- I couldn't tske it anymore!;)

lol...i am so bad. i still won't get the door even if the person is looking right at me. they go away eventually.
i figure that ignoring them is kinder than opening the door and saying "go away". there is no nice way to do that.

hahaha!

Perfect thread for me, i am our flats personal door answering service! I live with 5 other people, most of whom have friends in our block who come and pop round, which is fine. My friends all live outside my block of flats so will ring the intercom (or usually my mobile) before they come round. However i am CONSTANTLY answering the door to other peoples friends cause they can't be bothered to get up!

I've stopped now, cause its so dang annoying!!!!

I am so tempeted to open the door and say 'hi sorry, your friend doesn't care enough about you to get up and answer the door, so i wouldn't bother comming in. Goodbye' and slaming it.

Maybe on the last day of term.... ;)

I sure am glad I have company in this department. I refuse to answer the door either unless someone has called and said " I am on my way and I will be there in ...minutes" Even then if it is someone I do not want to see I might even tell them I am getting ready to leave.

I don't think it is so much not wanting to see a salesman or anything its just I had a scary incident happen when I was around 12 or 13 with a stranger trying to get me to answer the door and I have had a fear ever since.

The door gets answered. The phone gets answered when I'm in the mood. :)

never answer the door you should call first, and of course i never answer my phone

I believe we are the only people left on the planet without caller ID. I'm sick of that fight with my cheapo hubby so I simply won't answer the phone. I usually check who's at the door before I'll answer it. It is a rare occasion that someone comes by unannounced or uninvited anymore.

I usually call screen. I am almost always some place I can't take a call, so its a habit. If its someone I need to talk to, I will call them right back. If not, I call them when I get a chance.

Hardly anyone comes to the door so I don't have issue with answering it.

I answer the phone if it's convenient...for ME. DH is totally the opposite. If it rings, he answers, no matter what. I feel that's what the answering machine is for. If I see on caller ID that it's someone close to me I will usually answer, but even then not all the time, just depending on what I'm doing at the moment. Truthfully I prefer e-mail to the phone. I've always hated talking on the phone.

And if the doorbell rings, forget it. I rarely answer it unless I see who drives in the driveway first. Our children, my Mom and DH's Dad all just ring the bell and walk in. So if someone actually rings the bell and waits, I know it's not one of them.

I am the same OP! I only answer if I feel like it and the door, only if the house is clean..LOL!

Caller ID is a must for me. I have this one friend who only calls when she needs to talk about something in her life, since I'm a SAHM I have no problems, everything is peachy all the time.. there are times I just dont want to hear her whine for hours upon end. As for the door. In the 3 years we've been in our home I think 10 people who I didn't know have knocked. I've answered all of them. If I dont the kids will.
