What is your opinion on the United Kingdom?

High housing prices. The middle and low income residents have all been forced to move to the suburbs where housing and rents are far cheaper.

I’ve never been there so don’t have an opinion really. Would love to visit but can’t deal with that long of a plane ride.

I had the chance to go for Thanksgiving one year in the '80's, when we lived in Germany. I was sick of traveling at the time and didn't go, but I regret it. My ancestry seems to be mostly Welsh, but I don't consider myself kin if I have no direct experience with the culture. I like Charles Dickens though. And via this board I have discovered that they have dragons there!

It’s complicated.
We fought for and won our independence, then (after waiting too long) saved the U.K. from the Nazis and now we get this obnoxious condescension politically and socially from the upper ranks of society. I don’t get it. I don’t appreciate it.

Please don't say that. I know a million people from all over who would swear blind that the US did NOT "save" the UK from the Nazis. It's all a matter of opinion and does not belong on the DIS.

We didn't have a problem with bullying, violence, drugs, alcohol, or really anything at my school. Pretty isolated little school in a little town, everyone knew each other anyway.
The one issue I guess is that like most schools, the focus on athletic endeavors always outweighed everything else. Parents would shell out cash to fund whatever sports thing was needed (disclaimer, I played sports), but to get funding for anything else was pulling teeth. Crickets. My mom taught at that school for 30 years, and it was always the same.

Chemistry books are out of date. Let's get some used ones from another school. We need new uniforms for the basketball team. Here's $5,000 donated by booster club for new ones.

When I was a kid we travelled from CA to WA and ID for weddings. Otherwise I've never left town for a wedding or funeral. All the ones I've attended have been held locally.

American maple syrup is superior to Canadian maple syrup. I just got some maple syrup from Wisconsin.

from there , what is everyone from the USA opinion on the UK?
I love the UK. I am saddened at how some places changed dramatically for the worse over the past 10 years or so. Same story with a lot of Europe, so much culture being wiped out.
I haven't been since 2017, hope to go again in 2022. I worked for a domestic only company, not much point in traveling overseas for the past few years, but I'm back in the game!

Wine and coffee are both disgusting.

I love macaroni and cheese. All kinds, even the blue box (which is even better if you put hot dogs in it). In general I don't cook with a ton of processed ingredients but I love this combo.
NO! And wine and coffee both have health benefits!

But I like the blue box mac and cheese but the older kind had way cheesier/saltier flavor, about 2 decades ago.

my cell phone. My daughter just won a 5K race and had a big trophy. I put my phone on the roof, got her in her booster seat, got trophy in car - got in and drove away. I heard a thud and looked behind me and saw my cell phone bounce in the road and a car run it over. I pulled over and ran and got it- had an otterbox case on it and the case was trashed but the phone was fine!

I would say a funeral and it was only a little over an hour. I figure if it's halfway across the country the deceased person won't care, and if they do they should understand.
