What is your opinion on the United Kingdom?

I think we might be neighbors. Lol. My Nextdoor feed is similar.

Traffic, traffic, traffic. It’s NOVA, so traffic will always be an issue. The positive aspect of the shutdown was my daughter learned to drive without many people on the road.
Traffic was the one of the main reasons I didn't move back to Nova where I'm from after living in Texas for a few years (CoL being the other biggie). I'm close enough now, but without all the traffic.

But them cicadas right now, holy moly. I don't think my windshield will ever get clean.

Our city has defunded the police and now gives carte blanche for people to tent camp anywhere they like. Drug addicts from around the country moved here when that happened and turned our peaceful public areas into a pigpen. A grassroots protest against the out of control public camping finally put a referendum against it on the ballot in May and it passed handily, but the city has yet to enforce the public camping ban. What used to be a beautiful and safe city now has dangerous violent crime and unbelievable squalor under our bridges and around many streets, including close to our home. And housing prices are going through the roof (and income doesn't match). Traffic is bad, too.

I grew up here, and wow. It's a really different place than it used to be, mostly not in a good way.

The homeless. The city found $223 million to build a new arena our our NBA team, but we can't find a few million to help the homeless. SMH

I’m not following what you are saying. If you are talking about LA a google search said they might spend 1 billion on the homeless this year. Than a article from 2019 said last year they spent 619 million on the homeless.

It’s complicated.
We fought for and won our independence, then (after waiting too long) saved the U.K. from the Nazis and now we get this obnoxious condescension politically and socially from the upper ranks of society. I don’t get it. I don’t appreciate it.

Yeah? I never noticed. I've been a couple times and never ran into anyone unfriendly. Clearly I wasn't inside Buckingham Palace -but who cares what they think. You can't judge a nation on the opinions of a few -although I'm not even totally sure who those people might be....

I was first there in my early 30s for a 3 week work trip. The folks I worked with were about the same age and great. We went out to pubs at night and one weekend a group of us went out near Wimbledon - someone's family had a restaurant. There was some big political drama going on in Europe at the time (don't remember now) and they were discussing it at dinner. I has heard about it but knew practically nothing. I commented how impressed I was that they knew so much about it. One if them said "well, it's in our backyard." Sort of stuck with me how we in America (or at least me) are in our own little American cocoon and don't know much past that. I did find sandwiches at lunch to be lacking (bread slice, butter smear, thin slice cheese, thin slice meat, bread slice) but the box of amazing chocolates that someone brought almost daily made up for it! I love how easy the tube is to get around.

I've been back a couple of times since but only to London - once took a bus to Dover and back for a day. I'd love to spend time in the countryside.

Politically I see some parallels with U.S., the inmates are trying to run the asylum. But I think both will eventually find middle ground.

Sacramento, not Los Angeles.

My dishwasher has been broken for months and months and repair parts are non-existent. And right now there's a ton of housework that needs to be done but won't get done right away because I'm down with an injury. I wish I'd had a chance to plan this little accident then I could have had everything taken care of in advance.
I hope you heal quickly 🌹

Where are my shoes?!?
DH is the only one who can consistently find his shoes when we need to go somewhere.

There never seems to be any spoons or forks, not even dirty ones. I swear I need to buy myself a private stash!

Homelessness is the big issue where I live. Its been bad for years, but it seems worse this year, with tent cities cropping up all over. There's a lack of affordable housing, but I think the main issue is inadequate mental health services.

I don’t go far for funerals. A few hours drive at most. Attended a wedding in southern France in 2010 and will be heading to one in London next summer. (far flung nieces and nephews!)

For a Wedding 500 hundred miles. South Jersey to outside of Augusta Maine.
For a Funeral 250 hundred miles. Same area of South Jersey to outside of Altoona, PA

2700 miles for a wedding in Hawaii. Multiple funerals over the years in my home town, 425 miles away.
