What is YOUR "horrible moment turned wonderful"?

My parents took DH,DS,and myself to Disneyland for my birthday last year. We bought DS a hat at California Adventures when we got there. After we left Soarin we realized the hat got left on the bench. When we went back it was gone. My mom and I went back to the shop so we could buy another one. The cast member heard what happened and gave us the hat for free!!!!! I was so thankful!!!! It made this mommy so happy!!!! DS didn't really care, but I didn't expect a 5 1/2 month old to care! 
Our "magic" isn't as touching/dramatic as some of the stories, but still.....
It was just my 8y dgs and myself, Aug. 2008---the week of Trop. Storm Faye. We had a great week with very little heat, but lots of rain. The lack of heat was magic in itself.
I had bought him some pins to trade and one night when he approached a couple of CM's, one had a pin he really wanted, so they traded--the other CM said that "you don't have enough pins" and handed him one without trading. My dgs was so thrilled---the little things are so fun. Our last day we were at DHS and it was rainy, we were exhausted but headed to DTD before our mid afternoon rest. On the way to the hotel, we started to fade big time and he didn't want to go back to the park. We had Fanstasmic dinner ADRs at H & V, which I had to guarantee with my cc. I called to cancel the ADR. The CM reminded me that we would still be charged the no show fee. I sighed, very deeply and said, "Oh, I forgot about that, but you will just have to charge me because there was no way we would have the energy to make it". The charge never showed up on my cc. Thanks to the CM who took sympathy on me.

My Horror story turned wonderful is as follows. My DD who at that time was 16 months old starting acting very strange at about 9pm on our second night. Crying uncontrollable and fever. I had kids Tylenol with me so I gave her that. It was 12:30 when it still continued. That is when we decided we needed to do something else. We were staying at the WDL and went down to the front desk where immediately upon hearing the story and hearing her cries, got a car to take us to the Celebration Hospital. Turned out she had a dual ear infection from the plane.Once finished, they had a car waiting for us to return our family back to WDL.
The thing that amazed me more that anything is that not only did Disney take care of all costs. That next day they sent our DD's medication as well as this amazing Fruit Basket to our Room with a note stating; We hope your the rest of our Vacation be a magical one and may my little one get better soon. I am overly emotion and thought it was so sweet I was in tears.
Stuff like this is why I refuse to vacation anywhere outside of Disney.
PS. After a day of the medicine she was herself again and the vaction was perfect.

This happend a number of years ago, but we still talk about it.
My almost 2 year old son woulnd't wear a hat at all. We found one on the 1st day at Epcot. It was a Winnie the Pooh (my son's favorite) hat. He loved it. He wouldn't take it off. Ever.
A couple of days later we were on the boat to get into MK and we noticed he wasn't wearing his hat. We checked everywhere, even turned around to double check the car, but it was lost. He was losing it.
When we got to Main Street, we went into customer service to see if they sold that hat in MK. We were happy to buy him another. The CM called the Pooh store in MK, and the girl searched for what must have been 10 minutes before finally telling us that she had 1 left, and was putting it in the back so nobody would take it.
We RAN to the store. When the CM got the hat from the back my son light up and ran to take it from her.
When I went to pay for it, she just smiled and said "Have a magical day" and refused to take any $$.
I know the hat doesn't cast Disney much, but the good will that CM produced was worth many times more that the cost of the hat.

Wow! What a wonderful thread! So glad my DH is asleep while I'm reading this so he can't make fun of me crying at all these touching stories.
So here's my contribution:
In Dec. of 2010, DH & I decided to take our DS (then 2.5) to WDW for his 1st trip. The trip didn't start off great - a long day of travel which made for an overly energetic DS. We got to our room at All-Star Sports and, while I wasn't expecting much, I was beyond disappointed. But it was a short trip, so we decided just to grin & bear it. That night, we went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ & were having a wonderful time until DS decided to dart off the dance floor, through the mob, out the pavilion, into the dark wooded area!
After probably a minute of searching (felt like 2 hrs), I found him sitting on a bench back in the pavilion. Decided we had had enough for 1 day & called it a night.
The next day went much better. We all had a wonderful 1st park day @ MK. We even did MVMCP that night. It was such a great day.......until we got back to the hotel. DS was passed out, so I got him in his pj's while DH went to get us cokes @ the food court. Well, DH came back to me searching the room for our camera! Couldn't find it anywhere!!! Normally, I would not care about losing my small camera BUT this was DS's 1st trip!
By this time, it is midnight. I went to the front desk, crying hysterically mind you. The CM, Will from Atlanta, was beyond wonderful. Because I wasn't sure where I had lost the camera (MK or on the bus), he called the center for the buses & they put out a call to EVERY All-Star bus. He then gave me a voucher for a round-trip taxi to Wal-Mart so I could buy another camera. Well, DH helped make things better by going to Wal-Mart the next night & buying me an even better camera! Woo Hoo! 
But, I had still lost my baby's pics from his 1st day @ MK. Our last day there, I tried to re-create every moment we had had on the 1st day, plus some. On our very last night, we got back to our room around 11pm. We walk in & what is in our room? MY CAMERA!!!! Someone (don't know if it was a CM or other guest) had found it & the front desk brought it to my room for me!
Now, if only I had had some pixie dust for our return trip home. Got home & began unpacking. Saw that TSA had searched our bags - no biggie. Until I realized that they forgot to put back both of our iPhone charges & the battery charger to my original camera!

WOW!!!! It is amazing how truly awesome WDW really is..I am a 42 year old woman about to become a grandma and would give anything to drop everything to move there so I can work at this place...I would love to work somewhere were people are so happy to be..Instead I work in a nursing home..I do enjoy what I do don't get me wrong, but, to work somewhere like Disney would be a dream come true

You have to have goals in life. I'm on the backside of 30 and my goal is to be a jungle cruise skipper. I have convinced my kids that once they graduate, we are moving to Orlando.

This past Christmas, my 4 year old had been thrilled to go to BBB! She had also picked out a brand new Cinderella dress that day, and we headed over to the tent to meet Cinderella. It was ALL she talked about the whole trip. Well, when we got there, Cinderella was NOT there!!! The cm told us that unfortunately, she would not be there at all that day! She said the only way to see her was in the parade...my little one immediately started to bawl! I felt horrible, as I hadn't planned a meal at CRT because I knew that Cindy is ALWAYS in the tent! Hard lesson learned.
Instantly, I was on my phone trying to get a reservation for CRT, which I knew was probably a lost cause. I wasn't having any luck, so we went on to the parade. We got there early, had great seats, and Cinderella actually waved to my daughter from the carriage (she noticed the dress and hair I'm sure)! She was happy, but sad that she couldn't have her picture made in her matching dress.
I kept trying, and somehow, I managed to get a reservation for 9:15 for dinner that night! My princess was SO happy, and after a looping nap in the room, we went to dinner. She said meeting Cinderella and taking the picture was a "Dream Come True"! We met all the princesses, took pictures, and had a great dinner. Unfortunately, she started complaining of tummy pain, and in a manner of minutes...yep, she threw up everywhere! It went all over the table AND her brand new dress! She cried so hard, and her little heart was broken. She kept saying, "my beautiful dress," and she was pitiful!
I cleaned her up (luckily I had brought pj's to wear back to the hotel since I knew it would be late), and we headed back to our room at the Swan. I knew there was no way we could drive home with the smell of the dress for 10 hours, so I decided to try the hotel dry-cleaning. The next morning, I attached a note explaining the situation, and asked them to simply do anything they could to improve the condition of the dress. To be honest, I thought maybe the smell would never come out...
After a long day at the parks, we returned to find the dress lying on the bed in pristine condition! It was truly perfect, no smell, and completely clean!!! The attached bill read, "NO charge"!!! I sat on the bed and just cried! My daughter was so happy, she cried too!
I called the desk and thanked them profusely! They promised me that they would let management know what the dry cleaning had done for me! It was such a sweet gesture and meant so much to us!

Just this March, we, who are older AP'ers, DVC'ers, Lifers (whatever you wish to call us), took our beloved great and great-great nephews and nieces with us for a week to WDW. Yes, I was a little nervous as this was the first trip with an 11 year old, 5 year old and 1 year old but we figured 4 adults outnumbered them. Well, of course everything didn't go according to plan but we all rolled with it. However I became the "theme" of the trip joke because I would periodically "lose" the 5 year old......"Where's Ali", I would proclaim in a
panic-y voice and by the end of the week everyone would just sigh heavily, turn around glaring at me and say (in harmony, btw) "in the stroller, Auntie Peep".
(I had rented a double stroller for the two younger ones and forget Alivia was riding....sheesh!)
So I've been a bit sheepish about my 61 year old memory and questioning myself a bit since we've been home. You all can guess how grateful I was to read one of the first stories in this thread about Mom forgetting she's holding the child she thinks she lost!

It gets worse, btw, just the other day I asked someone to read something for me because I couldn't find my glasses....they patiently replied "ah, you have them on!"
As far as another horrible moment at the World...imagine the 1 year old's "taggie" (the equivalent of a blankie) being thrown off the pier at Fort Wilderness during a temper tantrum and 50 of us, including the 1 year old, watching it slowly sink to the bottom of Bay Lake. Wish I could say it was rescued but, alas, there was no way. However we are all very grateful for overnight mail and additional taggies at home, believe me!

a doozie for us last tuesday/wednesday. tuesday we went from mk and hopped to epcot at some point for illuminations. half an hr before ds fell asleep in stroller and dd sat on the ground not wanting to watch them....strange. we got back to saratoga and put the kids to bed....dd started moaning and wouldnt go to sleep. we called daddy to say good nite and she burst into tears. still wouldnt say what was wrong tho. at some point i figured it was an ear infection from her screaming so much. we stayed in the grandstand by the bus stop and it was a good ten minute walk back and forth to the lobby. on call docs were 450 for an in room visit...we had a combined 402 left between the two of us. after trying everything possible, using my canadian amex in the bank machines- wont work without a pin...and that takes 7-10 days, freaking out slightly, and converting 100 canadian to 90 some odd american. a wonderful cast member came to our aid....why dont we just call the paramedics from up the street? its free and theyll check her all over. praise the lord! and i am not religious.
after about the 4th journey back and forth to my room, and her calling them for us, i get there for security to be at the door, i applogized for the screaming child he said oh no its cus someone called 911. within minutes 4 firefighters/paramedics showed up. they cheke dher all over and suggested calling the ambulance for us. her vitals were fine, and no fever but said iwas best to go since the walk in clinic was closed at midnite...its now close to one am. i scooped her up walked her outside, much to her screaming and protesting and by the time we walked from 8105to the parking area a manager was there to check on us.....i didnt catch her name either, but i know she was from germany. she said get a cab back with a receipt and we will reimburse you for it. the firefighters waited with us till the ambulance showed up and then helped load us on. ive never been so scared in all my life. dd has mild cp and still wouldnt tell us what was wrong. we get on the rig, they gave her a stuffed dalmation to try to calm her and off we went. we were back in out room by 4 am and her to bed with the dx of double ear infection and meds on board and script in hand.
the next am i took the script back to the front desk...disney faxed it to turner drugs and had it delivered to us by noon. at some point a manager even called to check on her to see how she was. our only down side was missing breaky with lilo and stitch, but she was so tired and so sick from it she didnt complain. i was so greatful to all the cast members who helped us out, only wish i had gotten names...i will be contacting them to fill disney in on this. by that nite at wcc she was much better. came home to find out her ear drum had infact perforated. ive been through a lot with my eldest, esp being a nicu baby and all...but nothing could of prepared me for that. i have told anyone and everyone i can about how wonderful everyone was at disney.

My worst moment turned wonderful was 2 weeks before our last trip on May 10th I recieved a phone call from my Dh , who was at work, saying the they were taking him to the hospital because he had just broken his ankle. Shattered would be a better word and surgury + 10 screws and a metal plate later our trip is in limbo. We did end up going and his turn around from feeling like a burden and having a real hard time relaxing came on our 2nd night there we had dinner at Chef Mickey and he watched 2 little boys about 3 and 5 meet Mickey for the first time and all the characters signed his cast. It was the most relaxing, enjoyable, slow-paced Disney trip ever and we loved it. He still has about 6-8 more weeks in the cast but we have great memories of a very special trip.
