What is your highest level of education? (poll)

Do you use your degree.

If you have a graduate level degree - was it worth it???

I graduate with a Master's in 5 more weeks. I already have a job in my chosen field and will use the degree. It was definitely worth it.

My DH also has a Master's. He is not using it now, but when we move in December he will transfer to a job where he will be using his degree.

I have a Master's degree in Counseling. I use it every day at work (and at home- haha).

Is it worth it? Moneywise- not yet. It will be once I meet the minimum hours to get my lisence, though. Job satisfaction-wise- absolutely! I love what I do, and I feel like I have accomplished some good every day.

I have a bachelor of arts in political science with a minor in Journalism

I do not use my degree and aside from during college - I never pursued a career or job in fields related to my schooling....

that being said - I believe in higher education - and would not change the fact that I pursued and earned a degree - I know for a fact simply having a degree has granted me access to job opportunities (interviews, etc) that I would not have gotten without having a degree of some kind.

but..on the flip side my husband is an IT manager and while he has some college he did not get his degree and has managed to become successful without a degree - I think the options for having a good paying career/sustainable job without a degree continue to dwindle - gone are the days when you can start at a company at a young age and retire from the same company 25-30 years later...

thats my 2 cents...

I have a BS in Accounting and an MBA.

Have used it everyday since I graduated; I still work in my chosen field. I'm the CFO in a fairly good sized company so I'd have to say it was worth it for me.

Bachelors degree in English/creative writing. Masters in secondary education.

Nope, not using it right now. I happened to graduate during a major slump in teacher hiring in our area. :sad1:

Associates in Accounting
Bachelors in Behavioral Science/Concentration in Adolescent Psychology
Masters in School Counseling in the works....

No, I have not used my education except in day-to-day....I am in an entry-level position in my company but because I've been there nearly 20 years and have proven myself (and they have readjusted the position somewhat) I make what management does without the stress. I took the job as a single parent with an infant and, aside from the fact that it provides NO challenge whatsoever, the benefits have far outweighed what I would have give up in terms of being available to my children, both logistically and emotionally, and for that reason alone I have no regrets.

I have been interviewing for the past five years and working towards my Masters and hope that in the very near future I can start using my education, now that my children are no longer babies and their needs are limited:)

J.D. degree. I use it everyday. It took along time to pay off my student loans, but was worth it in the end. I wish I had gone to a state law school rather than a private one, then it would have been worth it much sooner!:goodvibes

I will have my BA in Dramatic Art in ~6 months. Totally useless degree without pursuing an MFA in the same field, which I have no intentions of doing. I'm taking a year off from school after graduating before (probably) pursuing a JD, then an MA, and eventually a PhD. I will basically be in school for the rest of my life, but there are reasons for the madness. =)

I have a BA in Business Administration and Middle Childhood Education. Used the business degree for awhile, then changed to teaching middle school math for 20 years. Now I am a stay at home mom.

I have an EdS degree, which is Specialist in Education. It's one degree above Masters and one below PhD. I'm an elementary school teacher, so yes, I use my degree.

Was it worth it? Well, yes because that's how we get more money here. Was the actual "education" of two more degrees worth it? No.

BS and MS in Nursing use them every day so totally worth it. My DH however has a BS in accounting and a CPA and CFE , and he out earns me !

I have a bachelors and masters degree in business. I would say that my MBA was worthwhile as I work for a large financial institution and likely would not have my job without it as I think it helped me stand out a bit when applying for jobs in a tough market (I graduated this past June).

BA in Psychology with certification in Elementary Ed, then MA in Reading Education and Reading Specialist Certification. Yes, I used my degrees before my kids were born, and then took a few years off, then spent the last three years working part time as a youth educator for a non profit. Now that I've been laid off (non profits are hit hard during a bad economy), I'm going to begin substitute teaching soon and hope to re-enter my field (teacher/Reading Specialist) full time within the next few years. For me, very worth it, and I'd be a professional student if someone would pay for it!!! :thumbsup2

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in
Counseling. It's very worth it for the job security, I enjoy what I do, and having the same schedule as my children. Not so much for the money and
the frustration of dealing with the parents (most are great though!).

I am about a semester away from getting my Bachelors, but I know I will never finish. I was working at an internship at my job, and I hated it. At the same time, I had a terrible professor who was discouraging. I dropped out and never finished.

I do have an Associates.

I have my BS in Human Development and Family Studies.

I use it every day as an instructor at a University child development laboratory.

I have a B.A. in Public Communication and an M.A. in Political Science. I used to work in government relations, but now I'm a travel agent and event manager. I use my communications skills all the time, but don't use the M.A. at all unless someone wants me to read over some legislation for them which occasionally happens.

I have a BA in English Comp Lit and a BFA in Speech and Theatre. I've worked in broadcasting most of my life (30 years). Now I'm a Director of Traffic for a broadcast agency.

I use my english degree everyday in my life because I love the art and I read all the time. My son is studying lit now in school and will study Brit lit next year. His best friend's Mom is his lit teacher and we share a true love for the art!
