What is your grandparent "name"?

I plan on being grandma. I can certainly imagine the kids calling me something else when they are little and thinking it's really cute, but can't imagine the name sticking when their speech matures.

My 2 oldest called my parents Mimi and Papa. Well, they also called my ex MIL Mimi too, but to distinguish the two, they referred to her as Smoke-Mimi because she smoked. :lmao: I don't think they ever called her that to her face, but when they talked about her at home (and to this day) that's what they called her. They called my grandmother Granny.

DH's parents are Grammy and Grampy. DH's aunt is called GiGi by her grandson. Her name is Gail, so maybe it's for Grandma Gail?

My dad is "Papa," my MIL is "Grandma." My mother passed away, so she doesn't have a "name." DH's father isn't around much for DD to give him a name, but we just tell her he's "Grandpa".

DH's stepfather has been "Punky" for years and years. No idea where that came from. The man is 6'7". I don't call him Punky, I use his first name. :rotfl:

BTW, the names certainly may last past childhood. I called one grandmother "Nana Mae", My first cousins called her "Nanny". Our names for her stuck as we grew up and had kids of our own. If her husband "Papa Paul" had lived longer, no doubt we would have also kept his name when we grew up.
