DH and I have started a Saturday night tradition. After dinner and after DD is in bed we share a bottle of wine and rent a movie. It's really nice, but.......lately we always go for the same thing and we need to try something new. So I was wondering what are some of your favorite wines? Any good suggestions?:D

I have enjoyed a Syrah.

It is a red wine, but not as complex as a Cabernet. It is lighter and fruitier.

My second choice would be a Merlot.

What have you been drinking so far?

Yuck!!!! Can't stand the stuff....................tastes like vinegar to me.........:)

Nutsy, you aren't mistakenly drinking Red Wine Viinegar by chance? ;)

We have kind of gotten into a riesling rut. I really love it. And my absolute favorite is from Sokol-Blosser. It is called Evolution. Originally it was called Evolution #9, but they shortened it. I don't get it too often since I have to have it special ordered to the package store and that makes it really pricey (CT has prohibitive shipping laws, apparently). However I may be ordering a case to be delivered to my aunt's work in MA (where they can legally ship). Merry Christmas Becky!;)

I have never tried a Riesling, so I would be unable to offer a suggestion of a varietal that would be similar.

I guess I push the varietals that are grown here in our county.

I am not paid by the local wineries to advertise for them.

LOL, you're too funny. I tend to like varietals so I will probably actually try that one. Even if it does not become a particular favorite of ours, most of our families prefer red and it is good to know a nice one to bring for parties and dinners. :)

Nusty,
Are you drinking vinegar? Australian wines are supposed to be the hot thing here right now.

Probably my favorite is Treana Red.....its a Calif blend. I haven't had a bad bottle yet! It can be a tad pricey....between $30-50, depending where you shop.

A cheaper choice (around $10) is Big House Red (On the label, it says Casa blahblahblahblahblahblahblah, but any wine shop will know it as Big House Red) by Boony Doon Vineyards. Also a blend. Certainly not as good as the Treana, but an excellent wine for the price.

There is also a 1989 bordeaux from the St. Emilion region of france (and of course I can't remember the vineyard...cream colored label with red writing) that I've been able to find in NH for less than $20 a bottle. I think it is so cheap because it is starting to reach the end of its drinkability....I've had some bottles of it which were truly excellent, and others that had obviously turned. So if you buy it, make sure you save the receipt!

I don't drink white wine, so I have no suggestions there. :)

I love all wines!!!For reds I really enjoy Beaujalais(I know I just killed the spelling!)especially Louis Jadot(probably killed that too!!)Luna de Luna is nice too-it's a Merlot/Cabernet blend.
For whites I usually stay with Pinot Grigio's because they are light but also enjoy an occasional bottle of Kendal Jackson Chardonnay-just beware! This is a little stronger than most!!
Enjoy!
Kim

Now that the weather is cooler my favorite at the moment is Lindeman's Shiraz.

I really like a good Chardonay personally. :)

I love the fruity, light wines. I've even been known to enjoy a glass or two of Arbour Mist lol ( I know I know)

Not a red wine drinker myself. :)

I love F*U*K*I plum wine...it is so good...tastes like a sweet wine and I like a sweet wine

My favorite is when my DW says "yepod, take me to WDW!"

Oh, you said w i n e.......................never mind;)

I live in the heart of wine country and I am not a wine drinker! LOL The only wines I like are actually spumanti's. I like Brachetto di Aqui, which is a red spumanti and I like Asti Spumanti. Oh, I also will drink White Zinfadel spritzers. Now DH on the other hand loves wine and some of his favorites (all red) are Amarone, Lambrusco, Valpolicella and Tommasi. Amarone is quite expensive and Valpolicella (at least here) is very inexpensive, but it could be because we live right near Valpolicella.

I'm on a Pinot Grigio kick right now. I LOVE to go wine-tasting in the Livermore valley - just minutes from my home. I tasted a White Merlot last year that I can't seem to find now - I'm sure it was from Wente.
We always have a Guurewerstemeiner (sp?) for Thanksgiving.

My wife and I have visited Napa a couple of times and maybe because we got to tour the winery or maybe because they taste good we have a preferance for Merlots and Pino Noirs. Specifically we like Mondovi and his new Coastal variations and the Sterling Merlot as well. Also there is a Columbia Crest Merlot made in Washington State that is pretty good as well. Being from Texas I have tried the local wines from Llano in west Texas and Massina Hof in Bryan but they tend to be pricey and I have not found one we really enjoy.

I haven't been able to "get" into a red yet. Not a 'real' wine drinker, I suppose. Do you folks drink these reds at room temp? I might have to sample a few.
Personally I enjoy a nice glass of Beringer myself.
