What is your favorite use year and why

We just brought in and did not really factor in our use year Mar. Just wondering how everyone else likes their use year or has a particular favorite.

A good use year is a very subjective thing and depends on an individual's travel habits. That said, other than some differences in what points one gets upon initial purchase and when they get their next allotment of points, use year really only matters if you have to cancel a reservation. We like our June use year.

We bought last September and got a use year of March. We didn't really even think about the significance of it at all.

Its only real importance now is how it relates to your travel plans if you need to change or cancel, and the timing for banking points.

It is good not to travel near the end of your UY due to cancelling restrictions and banking dedlines. This of course only comes into play if you have to cancel all or part of your trip.

For us we would never travel in the summer (June, July, Aug). It is too beautiful in upstate NY and way too hot for us in FL. So a Sept UY would be perfect. We have a Oct UY which works great. We would usually travel in Nov, Feb, or April.

We travel in june and then oct.,nov,dec So our June UY is perfect if something happens then we have an entire year to make other plans.

I didn't really consider it as much when I bought in, but I think the October UY will work great for us. Our current habits have us going to WDW in Oct and/or Dec, then in April (ish). Not normally in the summer. So have those points come fresh in October and having them all used by April (or having that padding of time to determine if I need to bank (or rent), will work out great for us.

A March Use year works perfectly for me. We often travel over Spring Break, which falls in either March or April. We also go frequently in the summer, so we know before the six month banking deadline how many points we actually used. We also have some HH points and typically use them in the summer, so they've been accounted for by the banking deadline as well. If I have points left after August, I can bank them easily, then use them if we decide to go over Fall Break (a long weekend in October for my kids), Thanksgiving or Christmas. If I made plans for Thanksgiving or Christmas and had to cancel them, there's still time for a "quickie" trip in January or February, or I'd know in enough time to use them for a long weekend staying at a Concierge Collection nearby (for me, that would be a long weekend at the Grove Park Inn - a three hour drive away.)

March works perfectly for us!!!!

We do most of our travel in June and July so our use year of June works out great in case we have to cancel or change a trip. We have more time to use the points before they expire.

From that formula, our March use year would be an awful one to have since we usually travel in December and January. In reality, after 9 years, we have never had to cancel a last minute trip, so I wouldn't let use year make or break a deal.

Our UY Is Feb. It really works for us, due to the fact that we travel mainly in the summer time. Our DD9 has school and we go around that. Due to our dd soccer schedule we usually go in July and over Spring Break. If for some reason we have to cancel our banking date is July 31. So it works well for us. We had no choice in our UY< but it does work.

oh I work all year long.

but no vacations or even sick leave (have to have doctor sign) in Jan or Feb. Annual Statement to get out. I am not waiting for my computer print to be delivered....

We've only been members for 2 years and our March use year has worked well for us. We even booked a MLKjr. weekend stay this year, something I didn't think I would do. However, I probably wouldn't book a February stay because weather can be bad in Ohio, but I did keep February as the safety net in my mind when I made the January booking.

Our guide advised us that since we prefer to travel in the winter, based on my work schedule and to get a break from New England winter, we should choose a late fall UY. That way if we have to cancel we can still bank 100%. We have Oct and I am glad that she gave us the option and helped us think through it.

That's the exact situation w/me, that's why I have an Oct use year, too.
But this year am breaking tradition (that's what DVC's all about, right?)
Am taking a Spring and a Fall trip

We have Aug. I wish we could've gotten October. We tend to travel Nov-Mar, so that would've been perfect for us.

But, Aug. isn't too terrible.
