What is your favorite thing about October? <former lurker, first time thread starter>

Well, along with others October is by birthday month as well. I have a cousin who's birthday is the day before mine, we are 16 years apart and are more like brother and sister than cousins so, it's fun to plan our birthday shenanigans together.

Even though Halloween is not a big thing here I do look forward to October for all the movies and everything else Halloween related. I just love this time of the year

There are many reasons I love October.

First, my childhood memories from this time of year are some of my best ones. My mother used to make our Halloween costumes herself - and while that might sound like the perfect start to trauma - she was REALLY good at it. I always won prizes for my costumes (except for the year when I was 9 and she made me dress as a hooker with 5 inch heels - kidding).

It was also a great time of year (when you live in New Jersey) to go to Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck. The cider, the pies....too good for words. Its one of the things I miss most about living in New Jersey.

Now that I'm in Florida, I look forward to this time of year because it starts the Halloween parties (MNSSHP and HHN) as well as Food & Wine - not to mention that it FINALLY starts to cool off. It also signifies the run up to the holiday season, which is great no matter where I'm living, but it's especially cool to live in Orlando and to experience everything that happens here.

I love October because on a good day it's 46F. I also love October because so many people I love have birthdays and such to celebrate. I love October because it sometimes snow as well. I also love October because it's spooktacular

Now that I live in California I am really missing the gorgeous scenery of the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. The communities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are always decorated beautifully for the season. I love to see my kids with their noses pressed against the glass of the candy shop windows watching taffy being pulled and then taking them inside to eat a fresh piece. We walk around the quaint village with a hot donut and apple cider and breathe in the crisp mountain air. To me, it's home and October is the best time to be there.

Today I finally acheived one of my (very minor) life goals, drum roll please....

...I had a pumpkin donut from krispy kreme! Seriously, i saw a photo of them a few years ago, but they were always out when i drove over there. Last year, they had discontinued them by 10/15 or so - crazy!

I do not go by the store nor buy donuts ever, so it was quite the quest. I tried on Saturday, only to find out the seasonal donuts weren't available until Monday.

Anyways, I got my pumpkin donut today (though it didn't have the jack-o-lantern face on it). It didn't taste as good as the regular ones, but it was October-y, so it was AWESOME!!!

I love all the October races, especially one in Akron that runs through an old cemetery.. It is perfect running weather and they are themed pretty cool.

The weather is also really nice on the days it doesn't rain. It is cooler but not cold and the changing leaves look beautiful...until they fall and have to be raked. Luckily our city collects them for free so we just have to pile them on the tree lawn.
