What is your favorite resort MEMORY?

I have to agree that my favorite memory is being able to slow down and enjoy my resort. The slow walk at 6:45 am towards the foodcourt, the greetings of the CM'S while they are still cleaning up the pool area. The smell of the hotel lobby, the first quiet sip of coffee and the realization: WOW! I am so lucky to finally be here. It really feels like home and I don't want to forget a single second of it.

My favorite resort memory is also our funniest. I did post this in the past under a different thread. We were staying at the Polynesian, and my son who was then probably in 5th grade had left his bathing suit hanging on a chair outside to dry. When we got back from the park, he grabbed it and went into the bathroom to change. Soon after, we heard "ooh, ooh, Oh my God......" We got concerned and asked what was wrong, and he continued to ooh, ooh, Oh my God, gross... He finally opened the door, and his bathing suit was lying on the floor. He had put it on, felt something cool and slimey, and went to relieve himself, and saw a frog sitting in the crotch of his suit! :) We were all hysterical laughing and continue to laugh hysterically about it to this day. We took a picture, and there's his suit lying in a heap on the floor with a frog peeking out! :)

Ummm, I wouldn't meantion to your son that you shared his experience with everyone in the forum. Talk about upset....... :rotfl:

I have 2
1. My DW and I had been to disney before we had kids, but when we returned with kids, for the first time, DS age 8 and DD age 4, I walked up to the entrance and tears start rolling down my face because I was so happy that our children will experience Disney. Mind you, I was a mocho 31 year old at the time and MEN don't cry!

2. Another time when we returned to our room we were greated with a towel animal circus, a circus elephant with stuffed animal (our childrens) waiting in line for a ride with a monkey towel animal swinging from the ceiling fan. The kids and us laughed until our tummys hurt. The monkey was really funny!!!

On our first trip "home" in Dec 2003 (BCV DVC) we got an EPCOT view room. On the night of my birthday (which was just an amazing day all around) I was taking a late night swim by myself and started hearing what sounded like Illuminations but not quite, so I ran out to the walkway to see if I could see anything but it stopped. So I went back up to my room and was just looking out the balcony and then it all started again. Amazing fireworks all around the countries, I woke up my DH and Mom and Dad to come see (it was after midnight). I said it was my special birthday fireworks. We ended up finding out later that they were practicing for the New Years fireworks.

Absolutely amazing

Sitting on a lounge chair at Stormalong Bay one evening, after a long day in the parks, looking at the fireworks from Epcot.

My favorite memory is probably the weirdest but here goes. Back in 1986 we were traveling with another family and had connecting rooms. We were there one morning when housekeeping came in to clean. We were getting ready to leave so we told her to come in because we would be leaving soon.

My daughter was 6 and the other two kids were 5 and 3. They went behind this kind lady and ask a million questions and she did her best to answer every one of them. Finally she let them "help" her clean up and they were in 7th heaven. She even gave each one of them a piece of fruit for their help.

They had the best time and we so enjoyed watching them. This was one wonderful lady to let them help her when she had so many other rooms to clean. Talk about Disney Magic. :wizard:

My favorite is from a trip about 10 years ago. It's our only two week trip and we were travelling with my db and his familty. Because we were staying that long, we really got to "stop and smell the roses". Anyway, it was a early Saturday morning on the end of our first week. Dh and I were sitting by one of the quiet pools doing laundry, drinking coffee and watching the world go by. While there we observed many families carting luggage and preparing to go home. Dh turned to me and said Isn't it great the we have "another whole vacation in front of us".

I'm also in the "morning walk to the food court" crew. It doesn't matter what trip, what resort, or even what weather. There's something so peaceful about the early walk to the food court while most of the World is still sleeping that really makes me happy -- even when its the middle of August and 1,597 degrees with 182% humidity!

Opal- you are so right..I myself have gotten to the resort on our 1st day and watched people getting on the charter bus to the airport...and thinking "Wow, that stinks, they all have to go home and I just got here, I'm so lucky to be me!!!! :cool1: Although I've also been in the that boat of sitting outside the lobby waiting for the charter, depressed, miserable, and wanting to jump behind a magnolia tree and hide, hoping my family won't notice me missing, watching people come in to check in....Not liking those people and thinking very jealous things about them!!

Last November I took my DD's 9 & 7 to WDW. My wife stayed home with baby DS. Anyway, the first morning we took the monorail to the MK and we were lucky to get the front car. Just looking at the excitement on their face as they saw the MK coming into view will always stay with me.

Another story was a few years back. We were going to the WL. But, we couldn't get the first night we were down. Our friends were at the Grovesnor and we figured we would stay with them a couple of nights and when they leave we would head over to the WL(which we had never stayed at).
Anyway, we get to the Grovesnor and its a mob scene. They were understaffed and it was just very loud. Our room was in a outdoor hall wing. We get off the elevator and the first thing we see was a giant mold spot on the ceiling right near our door. Everything we did at the hotel was crowded and it was just not comfortable. So that night, I called the WL and asked if I could get in the next day...luckily I could.
We arrived at the WL and it was the exact opposite. I remember pulling up and hearing the western music playing and how relaxing it felt. It was so beautiful. And we have stayed their almost everytime we have gone.

Which in 1 week I will be back at the Lodge...for 7 nights!! :cool1:

I love this thread!!! :earsboy:

I have two...

1. At the Contemporary, 1982....our family's first visit to the World. We had a Bay Lake view and were getting ready for bed when we heard music outside....rushed out to the balcony to discover the electric water pageant! It was true Disney magic--not planned, not even known about, and it just materialized!! My little sister and I watched every night thereafter, sitting on the balcony in our PJ's with milk and cookies before bedtime. Ahhhh....

2. As an adult, when DH proposed to me at Sunset Point at the Poly, in the darkness with lightning flashing all around us!!

It's hard to pick one memory. This year, the second week of January, one moment in particular comes to mind. We were sitting outside in the front of the boat, crossing from WL to MK. The sun sparkled off the water, there was a light breeze, the temperature was about 80, and the sun felt deliciously warm, especially knowing it was about 20 degrees at home. It was so beautiful being out on the water approaching the Magic Kingdom. It was a special moment, being immersed in a sense of happiness and contentment, knowing there is nowhere you would rather be and you are so lucky to be there. In retrospect, we were luckier than we knew since we had sunny eighty degree weather the entire week of our stay, and the remainder of the winter and spring this year was unusually cold and rainy there.

I have great memories of waking up early at The Poly and walking to The Great Ceremonial House to get DH and I Kona Coffee and then walking back to our room. Sometimes me DD would walk with me still in her pj's :) .

I would love the smell the resort had first thing in the morning and looking over the Seven Seas Lagoon and seeing the castle through the thick, humid air ;) .

In fact.......we have a creek close to our house and there is a haze over it many times in the early morning. It was just this morning, that I was standing outside watering my flowers and I told DH how much that haze reminded me of The Poly when I would go for coffee :)

I also have two, both of them involving my oldest son who is now six.

In May of last year we stayed at the Contemporary. It was his first trip to WDW and when he saw the monorail come through the concourse, the look of joy on his face was priceless.

The other was this past January. We had spent sour nights in a 1BR at OKW before heading to POP. Upon walking in the room at PC, my son walked in, walked straight back to the bathroom, then as serious as he could be said "Hey, where is the living room?"
