What is your favorite NON DISNEY animated movie?

I, for one, am glad that we have Shrek and other "non-comical" movies in our house. There are days that I have had a day from hell at work and reality and I need to have a good comic relief. That allows me to have that. And, I guess unfortunately to me, I'm not into science fiction/comicbook takeoff movies. To me those are just as stupid as one may think Shrek is.

That's why we live where we live. We have the freedoms to have opinions on what movies we like and don't like. Doesn't mean we are "lowest common denominators" though. I for one am a very intelligent person and like a good "comic relief" movie once in a while and to me that is what Shrek is. A "comic relief" escape from reality type of movie that let's me "escape" when I need to without having to do drugs.

I love Chicken run and Shrek comes a close 2nd. I think Chicken run is really funny though.

Sigh....

I'd like to point out re: Shrek and Shrek 2 that CRITICALLY and COMMERCIALLY, I am the minority here! I'm the idiot! I just don't like Shrek, and I never ever will. No one needs to defend their love of Shrek, or their intelligence to me!

Repeat: I am the not normal one!!!!

no need to call yourself an idiot...no one hear feels that way.

it's just when you say that it 'appeals to the "lowest common denominator" '....it is taken the wrong way. (especially after many people have already said they enjoyed the movie)

everyone is entitled to their opinions...but we shouldn't be judging people/passing judgement on them for their opinions.

Another proud member of the 'lowest common denominator' club checking in! ;)

I love both Shrek movies mostly because of the stories (silly me) but my favorite non-Disney movie is Spirit and I enjoyed the Sinbad movie too. I also have Ice Age in my collection. That squirrel rules!

Oh, well, it wasn't meant to insult the fine folks who post here. Some movies which appeal to the lowest common denominator are very funny....Something About Mary, the first Austin Powers spring immediately to mind.

And me....I watch reality TV. ;) I must insist upon my right to call myself an idiot!

Perhaps it wasn't the best wording...but my primary problem with the Shrek films is that it is a less a movie than a string of pop-cultural gags, most of which are (IMO!) very stale.

That's all. :)

I respect your opinion but I consider the Shrek movies much MORE than strings of pop-cultural gags but that's just me. I'm not trying to debate though so that's all for me too. ;)

Another Shrek fan here. My kids watch it over and over again and I'm right there with them. It's very entertaining. :)

I in no way said you were an idiot but I truthfully do not like being called a "lowest common denominator" nor do I like anyone being called that. It's like calling someone "trailer trash" in my opinion. And I'm not and wasn't trying to start any type of debate so I hope it wasn't looked on like that. Please, please, please - let's not start a debate. I just wanted to state that I didn't think it was a fair statement and you have just said perhaps it wasn't a good choice of words (basically).

I see a lot of my favorites already mentioned, but my absolute favorite is The Hobbit. I remember when our local library used to show it for free and my Dad would take me to see it.
Some runners-up are Fern Gully, The Land Before Time (FIRST one), and Anastasia.

I called myself an idiot, and you manage to be offended because I MUST be implying that you were implying it etc,. etc. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A JOKE AND LIGHTEN THINGS UP. THAT'S IT.

As for how everyone took the lowest common denominator statement, I've already said umpteen times that was not how I meant it. In law school, we used to play these logic games:

All cats are white. I am white. Therefore, I must be cat.

NO. You may or MAY NOT be a cat.

Shrek appeals to the lowest comon denominator. I like Shrek. Therefore, I must be a member of the lowest common denominator.

That's how you all took it. It is NOT how I meant it. You can be an utter genius who likes Shrek. The partners at my law firms did, and they sure as heck are a lot smarter than me.

GEEZ.

Movie- The Secret of N.I.M.H.
TV Show- The Simpsons

The Last Unicorn, Anastasia, The Prince of Egypt (although I don't like Kateznberg).

I'm not a Shrek fan either. But my reason is that I don't like Mike Meyers anymore. His first few movies were good, but I find him loud and annoying as Shrek. The animation was amazing, but I too didn't find much to the story. It was entertaining, that's about it.

Shrek! Can't wait to see the sequel.
